Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate the watermarks. I hope someone with with a shorter amount of time in the hobby benefits from it. It took me a while to figure out watermarks and it was a bit of a struggle sometimes. Some of the U.S. issues can be challenging. Every bit helps.

I came here a bit late, and smiled when you spoke about getting to 500, and now when I am writing, you are already at 664. Good going. ... Thanks again for the episode. Enjoy to see all the interesting stamps, and the lighter fluid really worked well. Good to know. :)

Thanks for watching.

Glad the lighter fluid worked for you. The penny red appeared to be small crown watermark. The other QV should be another imperial crown.

Thanks for pointing out. I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

Thanks John, another gread video. Lighter fluid for watermarks was an eye opener, how about mint stamps though. I have the Stanley Gibbons watermark detector and i struggle with it. How do other collectors go about watermark detecting?
@johncollectsstamps Жыл бұрын
I've no experience of the electronic detector. Have a look at the KZbin channel "OurDadsStamps", Pete who runs the channel has the SG electronic detector, naybe drop him a message?

John Chapman (1774 - 1845), aka Johnny Appleseed, was a real American nurseryman, who introduced apple trees to large parts of the 'American far west, and Ontario' of the time (Ohio, Indiana, etc.). He became folklore during his lifetime, in part, due to the importance he attributed to apples here in America.

Frank Lloyd Wright was a legendary architect. Amongst his greatest works (the one depicted on the stamp) is the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

Thanks for pointing out. I should have realised by the design on the stamp!

The watermark on the Penny Red Imperf actually came through fairly clearly on camera. It's a small crown watermark, a little to the right and high of the centre of the stamp. This was a very useful experiment for me, I've heard of using lighter fluid, but always been nervous about how it might affect the stamps. Thank you John!

Thanks Paul, and thanks for spotting what I missed on the Penny Red. I'll have another look at it tomorrow now I know what to look for.

@@johncollectsstamps Strangely, sometimes things show up clearly on camera that aren't as easily seen with the naked eye. 😀
