Hi guys, thanks for answering my question last week. Made my day, haha. I had a question re: the discussion about frozen reefer LTLs. If I used one of those brokerages to help me move a frozen LTL, is that considered co-brokering/double brokering? Do I have to tell my customer that I'd be using another broker? How would this work liability/claim-wise? Thanks!
@Freight3602 күн бұрын
It would be co brokering since they’ll be a co brokerage agreement in place. You can find a sample agreement on our website. The claims are handled by them if one occurs. You’ll just facilitate information between this brokerage and your shipper.

Ben, I apparently did this technique and was following up on either the quotes I had provided them or the orders they told me that are lined up but I got feedback saying that I am being an aggressive salesperson and I should wait until they actually need me. But here’s the contradiction, if I slow down then they might forget me and keep running operations as it is. Still kinda figuring out the safe zone to play with.

He's an agent with Benjamin. So he handles the entire load process. But not the billing or credit. It's plug and play with the brokerage for everything else like TMS, credit and software.

How to find reefer LTL carriers that can haul frozen commodities? I tried to source through google and I did find out some but then they don’t do long hauls or service particular regions. Reefer LTL shipments are very tough to cover in comparison to dry LTL shipments since you can get instant quotes and capacity through platforms like beyon or mothership. I know you guys can suggest something good.

That’s mostly a blowoff objection to work through. Ask more questions, how much of your freight moves on your assets? What % is FOB?

How do you get produce shippers, as most of them have their own fleet or FOB routed
@Freight36017 күн бұрын
Trucks breakdown and last-minute loads need recovered. The best approach to these objections is to ask them how they handle when one of their trucks breaks down or doesn't show and that load needs to go.

I have only 10 months with my MC and I already have six inspections. However, I’m pretty sure you guys are wrong because when you don’t have insurance automatically, your MC is deactivated.

Your MC is not tied to your insurance. Only your bond is a requirement of the FMCSA to have an MC.

Hey guys, big fan here. Had a question for your next Final Mile. I have a shipper who has a LTL shipment valued at $90k that they are asking me to quote. The shipping coordinator says that he never pays for full additional insurance to cover the full value of the load - my question is this: if I choose not to get full insurance (which is the only way I can give him a competitive rate to what he currently gets by finding them himself) and something happens to the load, am I the one who is financially on the hook? Also, I was considering drawing up a contract saying that the shipper formally waives us of responsibility, do you think this would be enough protection? Please advise.
@Freight36017 күн бұрын
We’ll answer in length in an upcoming Final Mile. Short answer, yes have them confirm the load value and the amount they want to insure. That will cover you. And if something happens, they’ll only recover that amount.

Bought the book immediately. Please share books more often, or better yet put a reading list on your website. On that note, do you know any books or podcasts that cover the technical side of shipping freight? Supply chain management, project management, stuff like that.
@Freight36018 күн бұрын
The DAT podcasts and shows are pretty good for technical discussions. Chris Caplice, Dean Croke, Ken Adamo are all great people to read and follow. Along with Jason Miller. I don’t have any books I’ve come across that have been very good on the subject. Most of the academic literature doesn’t translate well to practical uses. If you come across any, please share with us. I’ll start recommending more books. Here’s a few others: the lost art of listening, Influence- Robert Caildini, How Emotions are Made.

@@tusharsharma9421 how often are you following up with them? On average it takes about 9-12 follow up calls to the same company over about 3-4 months in the current market. There are situations where you can close a customer faster. But that’s what most are seeing this year.

That’s a lie. When carrier accepts freight he temporarily take custody via bol till receiver signs for it. If broker cannot pay you impound the shipment and try to agree on rate. After 30 days you send a demand for payment. If broker don’t pay then sell it.

@Freight36017 күн бұрын
You are 100% correct. It is BS that brokers won't work with a carrier that doesn't have an inspection. The sad truth, is that fraudulent carriers are making it harder for legitimate carriers to do business.
