Good evening maestro! I am in the process of overhauling my Jeep KJ 2.8 CRD 2003 engine. Inadvertently I turned the crankshaft without taking note of the timing! I don't know how to find the point of the engine without a reference. I searched and asked everywhere and didn't get a positive answer. can you help me please! Please, I'm a budding mechanic thank you in advance, one of your subscribers! I have no documentation, I'm struggling. thanks for the help

@@rogermulenga6295 hi Roger the assembly position for the crank and camshaft is 90 degrees past top dead center for cylinder 1. For the crank there is a mark on the Harmonic Balancer mounting flange. This should point 90 degrees to the right as you are facing it. Once you get it close, you need the alignment pins. There is a hole in the engine case on the passenger side of the vehicle that aligns the pin to the flywheel. The cam shafts are easy. There is a hole in each cam that allow you to pin them to the valve cover. Email me at [email protected] and I can send pictures.

Interesting. I'm probably doing forks on my Monster soon. This helps me get my workspace organized before pulling parts. I need to figure a way to compress the spring. I'll probably build a wooden frame with a bolt on plate.

Do you have to pull the injectors before the head? Wondering if you can get the head out and then Do the injectors from the bench? Is this all due to your trouble shooting with the knock and suspected dead cylinder video?
@daytonagrayghost
@daytonagrayghost 5 ай бұрын
Hi Aaron, the injectors are bolted to the cam carrier / manifold assembly but they protrude into the cylinder head. You must remove the cam carrier / manifold assembly to get to the head bolts. If the injectors are stuck in the head you won't be able to get the cam carrier / manifold assembly off. So short answer is, yes the injectors have to come out first.

I’m thinking I may have a timing issue on my CRD liberty, it drives but has excessive smoke I believe caused by I burned fuel, degradation in performance and fuel economy and an associated knock almost sounds like a rod. I thought it was a dead cylinder (bad rings) but recently pulled each electrical connection off the fuel nozzles individually to identify a dead cylinder and all 4 had the same rough idle response when disconnected that recovered immediately after reconnection so my mind is now wondering if I have a timing issue, especially now that I see it’s a belt and not a chain. How much has to come out of the front end to replace the belt, is it easy or a pain?

Great video, everything is clear. Unfortunately I sold my VTX1300C and moved to Sprint ST 1050. Rode a lot of kilometers on the Honda, very comfortable bike, accidentally rode 1500 km at one time, just very good ride :) and did not want to stop. Not sure if this is possible on the Sprint ST. But I needed a bike that could be ridden in the city in heavy traffic, on the Honda it was hard for me. The Triumph does the job better.

Hey Jim I been watching all your videos on the CRDS. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and work on BIG diesels every day all day. I have a 06 Liberty CRD and it started making a popping noise. First I went ahead and changed the water pump and timing belt. Started no problem but noise was still there. I decided to go into it. Now it won’t start. As if it has no compression. I think I may have broken valve. I’m going to do a compression test tomorrow. Do you work on these often. Seems to me your very savvy in this department. Maybe I’ll take it to you and you can tackle it. I’m in Ca. and have family in Glendale AZ. I’ll put it on a trailer and take it to ya.

Hi. Thank you so much for making this video. Really appreciate you taking the time. I have a question. How do you do the fork that you just took the bottom bolt off from instead of the damper assembly? How do I fill oil in that? I have a 2009 monster 696. Do you know the quantity of oil for it? The pirates manual I bought says 583 ml i think.

I have a 2008 s2r 1000 but the top cap looks different, and the bolt on the bottom is more like a big flat head screw…. Will the first way you removed the seal (taking the bold from the bottom) work, since I don’t have special tools?

I really like that engine in that Jeep. Good visibility, easy to park, a sturdy workhorse if needed to pull a heavy trailer. Plus, with winter grade tires it can shove its way through some really deep snow. There have been times when cars were mighty glad to have me cutting a trail for them. LOL one thing I would change is the springs. When weather is cold she rides like an old army truck. I'm thinking I'd like to find someone who can make replacement springs with a bit softer metal but with thicker bar stock that would still have the same weight rating.

I tested compression through the glow plugs. I removed the glow plugs and inserted the compression tester adapter directly into the cylinder just like you would through the spark plug hole in a gas engine.
