What a tough question! I would have to say, knit with the same yarn……❤ What a magnificent yarn haul! I would have a hard time not casting it all on! ❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much for sharing about your trip to Flock! It looks like it was an amazing time! Which would you rather do? Knit with the same color, or same yarn???😊

I’m a sewist and knitter, so very excited about your new venture. Maybe a good tip for you in using your merchant and mills fabric on the hinterland dress. Often in sewing patterns the chart on the back gives you a rough idea of size but the front pieces will have “finished object” sizes not in the pamphlets or directions. This helps you figure out the amount of ease the garment has. It is not as straight forward as they make it with knitting patterns. Depending on the amount of ease in the pattern you might be able to go down more sizes than you think. Also depending on your height, it seems like most patterns are graded for someone 5’6” - 5’7”. If you are shorter, you can get away with less fabric than the recommendation. Just in case you’re just 1/2 a yard short, these things can help.
@sundayknittingsociety7245
@sundayknittingsociety7245 7 күн бұрын
Ease is harder to figure out on these patterns! It’s also interesting because the ease I want with a sweater is not the same as with a more rigid garment. I think sewing ease is also less forgiving because the bust fit might be good but the armholes are too big. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh, I love the Read Banned Books color way, I would love it in a Musselburgh! Your sewing is beautiful. KZbin is an amazing way to pick up new skills, it's come in handy for me while knitting so many times. I'm sure it's the same for sewing 🙂. I am one that definitely has trouble concentrating without fidgeting somehow, so knitting helps me concentrate. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Heads up on the Bow sweater - I’ve knit with the Holst Supersoft Slate grey before and it bleeds a lot with blocking! I’d recommend soaking it the body a few times to let the dye bleed out without it soaking into your cc. It looks gorgeous though!!

@Caseyfuriouslyknits 7 күн бұрын
@@sundayknittingsociety7245 I haven’t used one before but worth trying! Honestly, I’d say soak the body without the colorwork in it to see how much yours bleeds. I held the Holst double stranded so maybe it was extra bad because of that. But either way, I’d hate for your beautiful bows to lose definition!

You are going to have a fabulous time on your trip! By all means, take a quick trip to a yarn shop in Copenhagen before the conference to get at least some sock yarn to knit on during the meetings. I travel with some frequency and only take socks when space is limited. I take minimal clothes to allow more room for yarn purchases and you are going to the grandest of all (in my opinion) yarn kingdoms in the world. You could bit the bullet and spend $$ on having some particularly large hauls shipped back (many shops will do that for you). I don’t take large projects like sweaters because I’d really rather save the room. I go so far as to wear my bulkiest sweater on the plane and pack only one (very versatile) additional sweater (usually a cardigan) in my suitcase. It’s hard with having to do the professional dressing thing for a few days before the fun begins! Have a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to see your haul when you return! 😊

Fun fact: My sewing machine repair guy told me that Kenmore sewing machines were manufactured years ago by Janome. Sears just paid to have their brand put on those models. I have a Kenmore that I bought almost 30 years ago and my mom has one that she purchased over 50 years ago and they are still both going strong!

Yay - congrats on 50 episodes! For what it is worth - I have a Pfaff (actually 2) and I love them. One I have had since college and it still sews like BUTTER. It is basic, but I love it. I was in 4-H when I was about 10 and learned to sew then. You have inspired me to get moving again! I have a few patterns I have been wanting to make and just haven't. Once you get going you should check out Blackbird Fabrics up in Vancouver. They have a great online (and in person) storefront. ORRRRR maybe not - I may be adding to the crazy. :) I took up quilting when I was in my 20's - have you heard of QAYG? (Quilt as you go) It isn't traditional quilting, but I love it for the quickness of it. And I use a ton of scraps...you should check it out. It is pretty fun...but again, maybe I am sending you down another rabbit hole. just watched AmyBeth and bought a sweater bag in the cute pac man ghost fabric yesterday. Finally cast on my Spacetime (in Sonder - Heirloom) and will use that bag. All things orangeish and pumpkin.

Me again: just thought I should mention - hopefully someone has told you that it's important to pre-wash and dry your fabric prior to cutting out the pattern pieces. Use the same method you are planning to use once your garment/item is sewn. I have even washed and dried (in the dryer) linen in order that I can clean the item without having to dry clean clothing. Cottom, linen, some blends will all shrink if you wash them; you want that shrinking to happen before you sew the item.

@sundayknittingsociety7245 9 күн бұрын
I have already been doing that!

YES.....I strongly suggest that you have your sewing machine(s) serviced by a professional. They know how to clean the insides of your machine and test it after to make sure it is sewing properly. ALSO: as a 77 year old who has been sewing clothing, dance costumes, outerwear, etc. since I was 14 - I STRONGLY recommend if you are planning to buy a newer machine: I have found the best ones are either the Pfaff or the Bernina. They are a bit more expensive, however they are super reliable. Just a suggestion....😀

Chelsea, you’re such an influencer! Lol. I’ve been sewing my whole life, and though I love designing clothing, I hate sewing. You have made me want to sew again-I love you enthusiasm. Also, don’t be afraid of the serger. Take a class on it for sure (I’ve heard threading and trouble-shooting are more complicated than a regular machine), but I used my mom’s serger when I was just a kid. It is sooooo much easier to finish your seams with a serger. Also also, though Casey is largely doing home DIY on her channel these days, you should check out Pattern Scout here on KZbin if you haven’t already. She has a brilliant tutorial on making your own bias tape.

😊 On shipping, USPS click and ship will pick up packages at your house during your normal mail delivery if you package and request pick-up early enough in the day. I am so bad about going to the actual post office, but especially with a scale for knitting, it’s super easy to even send international packages without having to go to the post office.😊

I had that shimmery crescent/floater type thing in one of my eyes last week! It was the first time, and I didn’t get a headache after. I wonder if I’m going to develop migraines? My son gets ocular migraines already, with an aura as a warning. Can you tell us your migraine hygiene, or what you recommend for minimizing/dealing with them? We have a routine that seems to help, but I’d love to know your perspective. 😊

Hey Tracy! I just wanted to add that I started getting what my optometrist suspects are “silent” migraines about a year ago. Once a month I will have a weird visual disturbance like that which only lasts a few minutes and then my vision returns to normal. I never get the headache with them. I have had migraines for 7 years now, but I never have had any auras associated with them. The body is so mysterious, right? But yes, as Chelsea suggests, make sure your doc is aware and keeping track of them, just in case something more serious is going on.

I use to have those ocular migraines all the time. They stopped altogether after I had a large uterine fibroid removed, stopped taking hormonal birth control pills and no soy products. I believe it was too much estrogen in my body or maybe just an imbalance of hormones. So glad they stopped!

I love seeing what you bought! As I’m in Australia, a lot of the things you have access to are different to what I can get, mostly because of shipping and currency conversion, but I like to dream and add to my wish list 😊 I would pick to always have time to knit, it’s such a calming practice for me at the end of every day! For sewing, I found KZbin videos by BlueprintDIY and The DIY Designer really helpful. They pattern hack and upcycle a lot so that inspired and encouraged me to start sewing without patterns. Also Jess Dang who creates her own patterns.
