Lousy design. Probably use high pressure grease to make sure teeth are properly lubricated. But petroleum grease which is not good for elastomer o-rings. Wonder if you can skip the o-rings.

The parts are bent because you are not using a breaker bar to break loose your nuts. Pun intended! You use the ratchet to spin the bolts out. Most idgits use it as a breaker bar and wonder why they break! Ratchets were never designed for that. But we do it out of convenience.

I use gun oil in my ratchets. 👍 I usually clean them once a month or so. My 3/8 Icon 90 tooth I've had for 2 year still works great. And I use it for alignments.

Mine finally died today. I got it in either 2014 or 2015. Either way... a decade of heavy heavy industrial service. I felt bad when I picked it up and it was freewheeling in both directions. Outlived the couple of snap on ratchets I had. RIP little 20722

FYI, there also is an alternate replacement gear wheel, which in my opinion is the best choice to use that will directly replace the 30 tooth gear for these particular F71 gear wheels, if a new gear wheel is needed because of broken teeth, or just general replacement due to wear. The 30 tooth gear from the F723 will directly replace the F71 gear (kit# RKRAF723). The F723 quick release gear has all of the same machining dimensions as the 30 tooth F71 gear uses, and you add the handy quick release feature to the ratchet. The 20 tooth F723 gear will not work in conjunction with the F71 pawl. But the 30 tooth does. Just another option for those who still use F71's out there. I have close to a dozen various model F71's which has the 30 tooth F723 gear installed in them. If you install a new F723 gear, put it all back together and tighten the screws and it locks up, then your bushing has backed in too far and it simply needs to be pushed back out. Which can and does happen. But the thicknesses of the F71 & F723 gears are the same.👍-Jed

My wife found a pretty nice Kobalt 1/4 ratchet on the ground and gave it to me and I noticed that the righty/lefty position lever was stiff so I took the ratchet apart and noticed that it was quite dirty, rusty and bone dry as far as lube goes so I soaked it overnight in some white vinegar, water and dawn dish soap. Then I used a toothbrush to clean everything up good but I guess the vinegar removed the black coating on the working parts and plate so now I'm trying to look up a black coating that I can apply back onto those parts. I'm thinking either a black phosphate coating or maybe some gun black.

Great video i have audi a8 d3 2009 (same alarm siren ) and i have a problem with the alarm, as soon as i connect the vehicle's battery the alarm starts working and the key does not turn it off. The batteries of the alarm are not good (as in the video) could this be my problem?
@DIYNexus
@DIYNexus 11 ай бұрын
Absolutely. If there's a short in the siren module, it could go off and not allow it to be silenced. If you have access to VCDS or a similar scan tool, check for codes and the "reason" the alarm is going off. That may help.

I've got a G910 Orion Spectrum that's been having issues with double-inputs for about a year, but it's not localized to just one key or bad switch I don't think. Loads of different keys have been affected, some more than others, and at this point I don't think there are enough "spare" switches on the board for me to swap them all. And since it seems that the problem might crop up anywhere at any time, it seems like Sisyphean task to start swapping them around. I really love the G910 and have had mine for about 7 years as of writing this, but at this point I find that I have little choice but to replace it. Doing a bit of research, it seems that the double-input problem has been fairly significant with this particular model. There are plenty of complaints about it online and no fixes that seem to really work. Hence I'd advice everyone to carefully consider whether or not to start investing in refurbishing your G910's, as they seem particularly prone to breakdowns and bugs.
@rkempo

Yeah, I found this video after experiencing the same issue on the very same keyboard. Its mulltiple keys now that are just inputting when I am not even pressing or appear to be multi pressing. I've had mine for about 2 years, so its not really that old I feel, but for the price I paid for it I am not very happy about it which is a shame, because I do really like this keyboard otherwise.

I had a previous comment regarding the specific repair kit this ratchet could use, but somehow it was either deleted or removed for some reason? But I did want to mention one other observation I have noticed about the F-71-D ratchet, beings I have dismantled MANY over the years. There is a reason why the F-71-D has a rather stiff tight harsh action to some (not all) of them. It all has to do with their specific pawl and spring combo S-O used together. To start with the pawl, it has a rather horizontal directional incline/decline where the ball contacts the pawl. This feature does greatly determine what the ratcheting relationship is between the pawl and gear wheel. Secondly, the particular spring used on these and other S-O ratchets at the time was their conical style spring with a portion of "dead spring" on the lower portion of the spring. I have myself corrected this problem of their harsh action by simply trimming a few coils off this dead zone of the spring. Doing this shortens the spring, dropping it down farther therefore reducing the generated pressure exerted on the pawl by the spring, softening the action. But obviously this can only be done by completely dismantling the ratchet. Anyway, hope I added some food for thought for everyone here who has an interest in old Snap-On tools. Thanks again for this video!👍
