THIS is how you do a knife comparison/review. Two different people, different hand size/shape, technique, etc, taking turns to perform the same tasks. Very nicely done and I appreciate the thoughtful analyses.

I've know idea if you know this. But Green River Knives, came out in about 1832 or 1836. I've found two dates for when they where first made. They put the Kephart knife in its place. Seems if you tag a knife a Kephart, its goes up in price to the point where I cant afford one. So big deal. I have four Green River knives. Bought them back in the late 1970's early 1980's. And they are still going strong. But then again, I only use them for knife type jobs. So no chopping or splitting wood.
@westcoastbushcrafters6 сағат бұрын
Didn’t know that. Had to look up Green River Knives. Impressive with the long history of knife making and awesome to hear you purchased them is the 70’s - 80’s. Most likely I never had to hold a full tang knife those days😅. It is great that the legacy of Horace Kephart is keeping strong. And yes that is being used in marketing. Cool to hear you were there before this. Lovely to hear the knives are still going strong. Hope you and your knives continue with that💪. Thanks for your comment!

@@westcoastbushcrafters My first Green River knife was a kit, that I had to build, and I still have it and use it. Its a great kitchen knife. Also, not sure any one else mentioned this, but the Kephart knife, does resemble the Green River Dadley knife. You should look that up. I have acquired a Kephart blade blank from Condor tool and knife, and I am in the process of putting handle scales on it, but it really is not that impressive. But I guess it will make a nice kitchen knife. Take care and stay sharp.
@westcoastbushcrafters6 сағат бұрын
@longrider42 can imagine starting with a kit that it brings some soul into the knife directly. Great stuff. Going to dive a bit deeper into this. Thanks for pointing out. Good luck with the condor knife, good health and stay sharp 😄👍

Lovely knife. I have the Joker "Erizo". Another good knife.

Thanks! Nice! That knife is not the most common knife design knife. Looks like a great handle grip and good control with the short blade. Do you use it for hunting? Just curious interest. Cheers!

@@westcoastbushcrafters Recently got back from Joshua Tree. Used my "Erizo" to do camp-stuff... cut rope, split small pieces of wood to help start fire, even some cooking. I have bigger knifes, but I never really need them.

I must say, this is a very nice and fair review and comparison. I did get the Helle Nord Sleipner, but for me as another gentleman on KZbin pointed out to me, it will be more of an heirloom than workhorse, though I will likely build some character with it, and it may develop further. Cheers.

@westcoastbushcrafters the pack is designed for long distance trekking, and hunting expeditions. When you do such things hydration is vital and so your hydration sources need to be readily accessible, without having to not only go "inside" the pack but not requiring you to remove other kit to get at the bottles. With this pack one could use a water bladder like a CamelBak. The pack also have all of those pockets and pouches one can add to the outside. Instead I see someone putting their water bottles *in* the pack, under gear

In my collection ive three BPS knives, the BP1 i use often. Why change a perfectly good cheap knife ? A friend had the bushmate and as many, the scales came lose after only moderate use. I never use a knife for anything other than a cutting tool, preferring to carry a small hatchet and folding saw for other tasks. Even so, the original Bp1, almost a year of use, absolutely no problems.

I love this knife, I did do some MODS to it, like others have done I removed the square edge at the end of the blade to enable my hand to get closer to the cutting edge, this made a massive difference when doing more detailed carving tasks, or even feather sticks. Another thing I have to mention is Condor has amazing customer service, in fact I've never had better from any other knife company.

I wasn't convinced by these knives when they first come out, maybe the price put me off, I picked one up really cheap a couple of years ago and I instantly loved it, it felt great in the hand, after some stropping it was razor sharp, I love this knife it's been my main belt knife since I got it, its all the knife you need, I don't mind saying I was wrong, I would have not been disappointed if I paid full price.

Wrong technique for feather sticking with a large blade.
@westcoastbushcraftersАй бұрын
Guess you mean the technique where you place the knife tip in the wood statically and use the stick that will become the feather stick as the moving motion? Guess we could have done it better in that case👍
@TheDavewattsАй бұрын
@westcoastbushcrafters No, I would hold the piece of wood off the ground when making any feather sticks, you get less fatigue in your four arm. Difficult for me to explain in words, check out someone like Rob Evans, he explains better, but users the same technique that I do, and much better I might add. It wasn't a criticism buy the way, just trying to save any aching arm, I did enjoy your video, and appreciate your input on this knife.😁👍🏻

Another great video from the West Coasters. I have the same pack. Yes, it's expensive and heavy, but it's very durable and will outlive my my other packs. Side pouches make it really practical and allow me to adjust the pack for my needs. Mesh bag (sold separately and stupidly over priced, but does double up as an ultralight day sack) is great attached to the hood and allows me to store foul weather gear or clothing that needs airing out. Wish i could buy the straps that come with the open pouches separately. They are brilliant.
@westcoastbushcraftersАй бұрын
Thanks a lot!😄 Interesting with the mesh bag. Have to look into that one. Really love this backpack. Always a joy to bring it along. Cheers🍻
@Timeren2010Ай бұрын
I seriously considered buying this some time ago, its a very nice pack. But I came to the conclusion, with the price-tag in mind, that it would be overkill for day-trips, and too heavy for multiple day trips. I prefer "UL with comfort" mentality, and my 42L Gossamer Gear pack for hiking weighs less than half of this pack (709 gram). So I couldnt really see to fit it in, but its a sweet pack nonetheless. Its even pretty looking....
@westcoastbushcraftersАй бұрын
Wow only 709 grams for a 42L bacpack! Thats ultra light 😁👍 well chosen and nice reasoning. This backpack is a big investment and hope it doesn’t need to be replaced before a couple decades 😄🤞
@Timeren2010Ай бұрын
@@westcoastbushcrafters yeah, I think you have a point, its most likely longer living, being that much more sturdy. But shaving off an entire 2 kg's from my old backpack alone did it for me.
@westcoastbushcraftersАй бұрын
Can imagine, 2 kg more or without is noticeable 😁👍
@JPazerАй бұрын
For being such a versatile backpack there is not much to find about it on the internet. Only a few reviews here and there but no mods or tutorials on how to make it even more versatile. Which is weird because the loops are basically made for modding and attaching DIY pockets. The Fjällräven pockets are great of course but can be quite expensive on top of the already costly pack. And you do need the extra pockets for camping if you are not a minimalist.
@westcoastbushcraftersАй бұрын
Good point! Quite a lot possibilities and Fjällräven has at least 4- 5 different pockets that you can purchase and attach to the singi. Will keep that in mind for a possible follow up👍. Not cheap like you mentioned 😅
