I have an Astra Elite AR5-E and so far it has been fantastic. It is definitely a lot quieter than that though. I made some extra arbors, but i wish i had more factory ones. I am also missing the drill grinder attachment from it, but I'm in the process of making one to replace it. Thank you, excellent content as always. Happy holidays.

Hello from Aus. I was using the shotgun mic again because it's easy. The grinder is much quieter now. The drill grinder attachment features in some of my videos and could be copied but to be honest the 4 facet grinder I built was an easy task. be safe over Christmas. BC

Back again. This video was made with the shotgun mic for convienance and I should have stated that. Maybe that caused the Clarkson to still seem loud. to me the sound is down by at least 50%. The Rong Fu grinder had the same result. It's shaft was shitty soft as well.

I've got tons of E-312-16 all purpose alloy rods...SO DON"T PUT ME IN THE DRAW...but would like to comment that I cringe when I seen people welding "mystery steels, high carbon alloy steels tool steels " with standard MILD STEEL rods with Stick, Mig, or Tig. They should AT LEAST PRE-HEAT to cut the chance of cracking.The welds are cracking underbead and they don't know it and will "HOLD" untill full force loads hit them and WILL fail. As a welder with over 50 years exp.. Very generous of you to offer up a subscriber gift.

Have a great Christmas BC. The content of the channel is great and I'm sure you'll sort the sound out, maybe it will have to be with noise cancelling soft ware. I can confirm the spindle on my early Clarkson is also soft, as I'm in Wales UK it wasn't just for the Colonials 😀😀😀.

It may be a shop-made replacement shaft, especially likely if the machine really was built from parts of more than one machine.

Having concluded from hearing your Clarkson run in the past that the noise was normal! Mine has new bearings, just as noisy. I have a "C" spanner hole in the shaft, which I use, no "stilson" marks and I haven't tested for hardness. Mine is a MK I Clarkson, I added a double pulley arrangement to give 4000 and 6000 RPM, the only significant difference from the MK II.
@tonyray919 күн бұрын
Agree with commenters on audio - you sound a little distorted to me. The lack of hardness on the Clarkson shaft does seem odd, will be interesting to see if other owner confirm the same finding.
@ianpendlebury37049 күн бұрын
BC, sorry to say, but when the machines were running, it was just about impossible to actually tell what you were saying. Constructive feedback I hope.
@garychaplin98619 күн бұрын
Hi Bernie, The audio is a step backwards from your audio test video, it sounds like the audio is over boosted and the Clarkson noise is still high pitched and hard to listen to. It's hard to tell with the lighting if you are wearing the new mike but whatever, the last video's audio was clearer. My Herless T&C grinder also has had a kiss from the Stillsons, also right next to the spanner flats, , it must be the approved technique and we are doing it wrong.
@garychaplin98619 күн бұрын
Hi Bernie, The mike works well, of course the Clarkson is a problem but the audio is marginally better in my opinion. Still that bearing noise does cut through. You might have to go to voice over when using it. You won't get much sympathy for your machine dilemma. It's a problem many of us would love to have. I look forward to seeing what and why you decide to do about it. Cheers.

Hi BC audio seems fine, can definitely hear the knackererd bearings on the Clarkson? It’s clear you like the TOS and I guess that’s a rarer machine than the Cinci, I ‘d restore the Cinci though as for me electrics would be easier for me to do that adapting it’s parts to the TOS.
@inmyshedwithbc.9 күн бұрын
All my T & C grinders make the noise. However the Clarkson is a low hours machine. When I bought it there was a wasp nest in the start switch and it would not hold in. The machine was robbed for parts and not used. BC

Hey Bernie, I know they are very hard old school good quality taps, that's why they are worthwhile resharpening. Especially after recently buying brand new 3/4" NPT Sutton Tap that didn't even do two holes. Thanks for doing those for my Bernie, maybe next year I'll set up my Stankoimport T&C.
