Can someone who knows a thing, please, PLEASE, tell me what kinds of free software are out there for 2d games? Pixel art or not; I'm looking for trustworthy, safe, free softwares. (I understand if you need to start paying in order to publish a game to steam, etc.) I just can't find a straightforward idea of what's truly safe and usable out there. You'd be saving my life 🩵

Librespeite for pixel art is basically a free version of asperite, Krita or GIMP for 2D art. Good luck

I cant find anything that simply explains how to export a tile set properly so it can be used to draw a level on other software :)
@saultoons
@saultoons 5 күн бұрын
You’re probably going to want to look at specific game engine tutorials for that, for example, in Godot and Unity I just need an image of the tiles that I can set up there so I would export each individual tile as one big png sheet and set up in engine

What was the canvas required to make the donut character? I want to learn how to draw, and starting at 16x16 feels like it's just not enough space. What is the standard, or I guess, most common canvas used?

@@beaurice943 thanks! Been messing with that and I agree, it does seem like a good starting point for stuff with more details. 32x32 is good too, but it's more challenging to get in discernible detail. I need to get better at it.

I suspect I prefer exploration more than problem-solving or familiarity. A struggle I have is that I can very quickly lose my sense of looseness and expressiveness and really stiffen up very quickly if I rely too much on what's familiar or start engaging my analytical problem-solving side mid-process. I tend to do all my best work when I really loosen up and just go by feel in an exploratory type of way. To make up for the lack of direction that can risk, I do a lot of thumbnail sketches and focus on any problem-solving in those upfront so that I don't need to be solving problems for the final piece.

Make a game about your pixel necromancer. they control the power of the dwarfs to move. the dwarfs have to unlock their movements step by step if they reduce the power of the pixel necromancer. and the dwarfs gettin´ less and less limits to build the village xD

I’m looking to get into pixel art, as I’ve always been interested in art but have a perpetually shaky hand, so paper and pencil was always difficult for me. I’m not looking for anything too serious, just making some goofy little guys and art for my friends, (specifically fantasy items and DnD characters), do you guys have any tips and or advice?
