I've done various things over the decades! I've found the most effective is to dump everything in one "Files" folder then use subfolders if required (eg. Insurance (folder) > House (folder), car (folder). so, probably 2.5 on your list.... It means a quick way to get to my files, plus I can sync everything easily to my external backup. I've also moved my desktop and downloads folders in there, but don't use any other generic Windows folders as they end up full of rubbish (photos, music etc. end up with game music and stuff in).

Hi, I'd like to give you two video suggestions: 1. MS Onenote tutorial (I know you have a tips video, but a beginners tutorial would help me a lot) 2. How to organize PDF files

Hi - Do you know if it is possible to extend the view of the "all day" events in Outlook? Both on-screen as well as print-view. I am only able to see a handful of events, maybe 5-6 max, and then it cuts off. Would love to be able to view all on one screen/ page. Thank you.

Nice. Learned that in scientific studies at university (agricultural sciences) already in 90s. Then since 25 years since day 1 in job in IT from computer scientists and programmers of the IBM school. Then the "new breed" of gen y and z programmers with user stories and stuff. No matter how perfectly structured this stuff is: as long as you work with more than 4 people at projects and as long as there are frequently people coming and going, this structure will be disturbed or broken or somebody will forget to put in an file into one of the subfolders or whatever. And there will always be someone who will hsve to keep it clean. But mostly the time factor and more important daily things prevent you from that....or a stupid teamleader or worse not understanding

This is a great tip. Working on your own skill set privately. This in itself gives a sense of control to your life. And in engaging with professional thought that maybe superior to your workplace norms. “Agreeableness “ is a trait that is valued in teamwork, but has it pitfalls too. You may get abused. The highlight of the video was “make your Outlook calendar, defining a roadmap to your skill improvement.” This will automatically free you from the dichotomy, where your mind wants to be free, but practically demands “agreeableness” at work.

Very helpful as a new user of OneDrive on my personal computer. I do not sync all files onto the OneDrive. Which is making it difficult to find documents that I saved on my computer only. I hope to find the solution as I watch your other videos.

My email is organized using a hierarchy but a very shallow one using very general categories that have no sub-categories. So, maybe a combination of mass dumping into very general categories.

😂 OMG. There are inherent flaws when describing your chaotic system. Your hierarchy structural system is also flawed, especially for companies. It took two decades but I finally settled on an organizational system that combines all three methods, which provides instantaneous data collection and retrieval. My way also extends into other personal and professional aspirations. Please redo this presentation. It is clumsy and outmoded.

Good advice all of it ! . One thing that I consider essential to detail orientation in writing for others is whether the language is TOO specific ( wordy and technical or redundant ) or TOO vague ( exclusion of personal references or of important contexts of when, where, who etc ) meanting you assume shared knowledge on the part of the reader which isn't there. These are part of your 'pespective' hint and are critical to being understood by others. Remember that if you are specific or vague there is a reason and it should serve yours and the readers' purpose.

Great video. I think it’s important for people to set a reminder to just take like 15 minutes every month to clean up their files and keep it nice and tidy. Usually all my mess comes from just dumping everything in a folder chaotically like you mentioned, and then I have to clean up so much later. Doing it on a more consistent basis prevents more headaches down the road.

on hierarch file systems, wonder how many sub folders you will be able to copy when you are moving/copying all data from one hd/cloud to another place. recall had cases in past when moving the whole structure realize months later that more then 5 subfolders were not copied. did you experienced similar too ? mean not all sub-sub-sub-folders from tree copied/moved.
@LeaDavid
@LeaDavid 8 күн бұрын
I have never experienced something like that. But in general, I always suggest to keep it simple with the minimum number of hierarchies possible.
