We were tearing our hair out with our Staffy (16 weeks)… he was constantly biting really hard and we were giving up hope. Our trainer couldn't even offer us decent advice (said to get tested for worms!). One watch of this guide and we had him move from biting to mouthing. Thank you so much!

Thanks for this great video! My puppy loves it, and it's given me some stress-free time to work while he's happily enjoying his Kong in his playpen. I suspect it helps him cool down on warm summer days in South Africa, too! Great idea.

I finally got my son's rottweiler to lay down today. We have been trying for awhile and I found your video last night. She sits good but wouldn't go down. I tried different ways before finding your video. My hand with the treat sure got covered in slobber a lot as she tried to lick the treat out of my hand. It finally clicked. Woo hoo! Thank you.

KONG IS LIFE. I started this week giving her a frozen Kong filled with pb, oatmeal, pumpkin and some kibble. She cracked out on it for 3 hours. I work from home and she definitely gets bored when I can’t give her attention. She had an isolation anxiety meltdown last weekend and I was able to go out the front door with her this week and she didn’t even notice once she was fully immersed in the Kong. This stupid rubber butt plug thing is going to be a lifesaver! 😂

Many years ago, we had a houseful of dogs, 6, 3 labradors, a springer, a cocker and a little staffie. Organised chaos reined, one day we were going out all day so my sister, who herself had had dogs previously and my elderly father in law volunteered to house/ dog sit for us, we filled all the songs so if things got to much, a calm timeout could be achieved. This was before mobiles, so we couldn't phone regularly to check all was OK. When we got home all was well apart from our relatives stated that they gave the dogs the songs and all the dogs got frustrated??, how any why we asked, worrying that something awful had happened. My FIL stated the dogs played with the songs but kept leaving them because they could not get the food out!!. Great we said, No said my FIL, we had to use a knife to get the food out. Whe we told them that was the idea, when the penny dropped, there was 2 very embarrassed faces looking back at us and 6 happy dogs who got all the food, 😅😊

My dog ignores the Kong if he is in his crate. He has broke a few metal pegs on his kennel. He grabs whatever his foot can & shreds it. Or he howls till I get back.

I love the Kong treat holder and I used it to introduce carrots as treats. Also when leaving our puppy home alone I use it as a distraction so separation anxiety is not happening and we have a happy pup also the house is not destroyed and we have a happy house. Thanks!❤

I just adopted a one year old pitbull who has had no socialization. He’s 70 pounds and I’m 130 pounds. I pretty much do what you are saying. Is it too late to correct his biting issues? He wants to play w my 10 pound chihuahua but as you say he has had no play biting experience. He doesn’t know how hard or when to stop. I found this video very informative. I do have all 3 of my dogs in training (the 3rd dog is a smaller pitbull). All 3 are rescues. The puppy seems to be getting better but it sounds like this is going to be difficult given his age. I was told he was 3 but the biting was a big clue that he was still a puppy. And he has grown a lot since I got him (he was around 50 pounds). But this explains a lot and I hope it’s helpful. Thank you

I'm in a multi-dog household where this level of basic training is very necessary. All three dogs struggle with anxiety and reactivity. I'm going to work with each one individually using the tools you've laid out in this first video as a start. One of the three dogs, a two-year-old mixed lab, was introduced about a year ago as a part of a rescue situation. His anxiety is through the roof whenever he needs to spend any time in his kennel. Hopefully, over time, the techniques shown in these videos will help me address that. Thank you so much for putting this together and sharing your work to help others.

Thank you so much for this! My high-energy dog has been over his Kong for a long time, even with peanut butter or coconut oil. I just filled it in the way you described here and he has been munching away at it for 10 minutes. And while I‘m typing this, he‘s tail-waggingly asking for a refill 😊 Such simple advice, yet so effective ❤️

You need to get him to drive into the lure. This is how you gain better control, allowing you to guide their body and demonstrate the movement more effectively. This is something you develop outside of the behavior you're trying to teach. I have a video on some of that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIiTm6SDgd-Wi7M

This was super informative. A+. But, I am still wondering what to do about my prey-driven, (rabbits and squirrels) impulsive mutt. She is 1/4 shepherd, 1/4 doberman, 1/4 pit, 1/4 husky. (Did not know this at three shelter, who labeled her "shepherd-terrier mix.) She loves people. Tolerates or plays with dogs at the dog park. Will let horses and a few random dogs pass in public. But, if the dog passing is "lucky seven" she attacks suddenly, biting and growling. Out of the blue. If I sense her tensing up, we do a bunch of "right about turns" which helps diffuse her rage, but sometimes there is no warm up. 0-60 in an instant. I loved your video, but I can't tell in which our dog fits.

Do you think this would help with a dog that has to pee A LOT? Not at night - he’s out for at least 9 hours at night, but during the day, he has,to go every 1.5 hours?
@SimpawticoDogTraining23 күн бұрын
That largely depends on why the dog is peeing that much. Could also be a UTI, or polydipsia (which is symptomatic for other things). Could be an anxiety issue. Could just be a potty training hiccup. There's just not enough info to say whether or not an activity like this might help. I'd say it's in the "might help, won't hurt" category.

Awesome video I really appreciate your technical approach to this topic a lot of KZbinrs don’t go into detail here. Quick question- I almost always give my dog a treat or toy after the terminal or duration markers. But I’ve been thinking about moving to variable reinforcement strategy because sometimes I don’t have treats or toys with me. Should I use praise after I use my reward markers in that scenario? Is this confusing for my dog because she expects a treat or a toy when I say yes or good?
@SimpawticoDogTraining23 күн бұрын
You're thinking right. The secret is to stack reinforcers together so you de-emphasize any one thing as the main reinforcer. Then it becomes somewhat unpredictable, which actually increases motivation. Check out this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gavWi2yqoJKZnpY

My Keeshond is definitely going through his terrible teens. He just hit 7 months old and the shift in his behavior was so sudden. His sense of humor is starting to come through too, so the things he does to test our boundaries are hilarious but man, he can be too much at times lol. I swear this boy doesn't sleep anymore and its always PLAY, PLAY, PLAY! Keeshonden are also notorious for being Velcro dogs, so he CONSTANTLY wants attention and will yell at us if he doesn't get it. I've found that taking him to daycare a few times a week, allowing him to explore new locations every now and then, and one on one play time for an hour or two before bedtime every night has been really helpful in keeping his high energy in check.
@SimpawticoDogTraining23 күн бұрын
I love that you're seeing a sense of humor through the craziness. In my experience, dogs develop a sense of humor in loving, supportive households. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll all get through it! 🤞

Harnesses that go across the chest seem to impede the full range of motion in the shoulders for dogs.
@SimpawticoDogTraining23 күн бұрын
Yes. That's largely how they work. That's also why they should never be a long-term solution. No tool should take the place of good walking training so we can go back to either a basic body harness or a flat collar, depending on the dog and the activity.

We had trained three and one (our last) was a great therapy dog (I know how to train corgis) and it was time for him to go 5 months ago. We're up there in age, so considered getting a senior dog (or cat). An 8.5 yr old throwback Pomeranian landed in our home. Downs seemed impossible. So, I played the video and with each different way of doing downs, pause the video and try it. Your down #2 is what helped (finally!). Downs will get better in time. He finally does "arounds" and next will be seeing how good/bad his "leave its" are. Therapy dog corgi would back away from treats I put down (with a "leave it" command) :) . It's still funny. Thanks!

I like the way this fellow explains. Concise, friendly voice; simple explanation. The dog in the example seems more realistically in training than some dogs I’ve seen in other training videos. I’ll be using these tips on a bored Australian Shepherd at a house/pet sit I’m doing, who is currently spoiled by encouragement of bad behavior, so his teeth are bruising my hands daily!
