@justinandtiffany I would really like to hear a discussion on "The Holy Tone". I'm sure you hear it too. It's that tone preachers use in their voice when preaching, praying, or pontificating; (that no one uses in daily speech) to make themselves sound holy and evoke emotions. No one else uses it that I know of, not even politicians or rabbis. Just preachers. Even little kids that hear it regularly can mimic it.

If you believe that the gifts have not ceased, then you must confront Pauls assertion that praying in tongues edifies oneself. He says so in verse 4. He speaks of praying in tongues in verses 13-15. Should we obey Pauls directions in Chapter 14? Absolutely. It doesnt mean that we cant pray in tongues in our personal prayer time. I dont even see an issue with someone praying to the Lord in tongues while singjng and worship is occurring during a church service as long as it is not disruptive. I believe that Paul was in part dealing with disruptive behavior during church. Thats what Ch 11-14 seems to deal with, behavior in church. Head coverings, the Lords table, the gifts, all things that impacted their worship services. 1 Corinthians 14:1-5,13-18 NKJV Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. [2] For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. [3] But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. [4] He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. [5] I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. [13] Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. [14] For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. [15] What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. [16] Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? [17] For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. [18] I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;

I was raised Baptist, but I was always curious about other denominations and as an adult, I made a point to visit a lot of them. I used to work for a Pentecostal prosperity preacher for 5.5 years and he would claim “god” spoke to him directly during our staff meetings and on his TV show. All while attending a very traditional Baptist church and the Lord delivered me from that job last year and I’ve never felt more at peace. I stay away from Pentecostal churches altogether now because of this.

When I was in the UPCI I thought the more I wept, plead and spoke in tongues the more my prayers were heard. I was led to believe I was interceding when I groaned "in the spirit". Crazy when I think about it now. Excellent point that it's the HOLY SPIRIT who does the intercession, NOT us. If anyone is interested, Costi Hinn or his wife wrote a children's book called, "In Jesus Name," that teaches everything your speaking about. That when we pray, we don't declare and decree, but we come before the Father, through the Holy Spirit and ask in Jesus name for God's will to be done. It's may sound remedial, but it helped me disentangle from the false teaching of decreeing and declaring. I gifted this book to our 5 year old grandson for his birthday in the hope that this truth would be seen. (Yep; I've got a bit of Jacob in me....🙈. My heart longs for them to come out of the UPC and so, I'll try anything within the parameters of the Bible.) Thank you so much for your heart for helping people still in the UPCI and people like me, who are still effected, even years later, by their false teachings. God bless you! 🙌🏻🙏🏻✝️

Yeah in my opinion and the early church fathers said tongues was finished. THe outpouring of gifts was to spread the gospel. Paul even talks about tongues finishing. Also its supposed to be a real language for spreading the gospel, unlike most of the baby talk and gibberish we hear today. With that being said although I am a dispensationalist and concentric cessationist I do think God once in a while still gifts gifts of healing and tongues but its one in hundred thousand and I think most people in Pentecostal and charismatic churches are just imitating other people's gibberish and baby talk. So to sumarize, most christians are pretending or thinking they are speaking in toungues but I dont think it has completly ceased altogether. We dont want to put God in a box. Funny how all the people with gifts of tongues dont use it to spread the gospel. Charles Fox Parham tried to send missionaries out with the gift of toungues preaching the word and they all came back having failed Wise christian missionaries today learn the languages of the people they are trying to reach for the gospel However there have been very rare cases of real tongues occurring perhaps with Jackie Pullinger and also Jack Hayford. With that said I want to say I love my continuist brothers of the faith, bless you. Jesus is KING

Hi guys thanks for today's topic but I have to agree to disagree that decreeing and declaring is biblical. Job 22:28 says I shall decree a thing and it shall be established in my Life. Essentially this means when you declare something with authority, ALIGNED with God's will it will come to pass in your life. God says if we ask anything according to His will we have what we've asked for. I believe we do have power because it's God's Word that has power and the Holy Spirit in us that has power. God's name has power that's why we say it when ending our prayers.

The word 'decree' is used quite often in Scripture, and if it is practiced outside of prayer, that would be a different discussion. The main point of this episode though, was to show that decreeing isn't biblical prayer. Job 22:28 isn't about prayer, it reads to be more about making a decision. The passage also doesn't apply to us. In our research, it is a description of what Job's friend said would happen if Job "got right with God". And Job's friend probably isn't the best place from which to gather advice. Biblical prayer is asking, petitioning. We do agree that if you are humbly requesting things that align with Scripture and the will of God (fruit of the Spirit, wisdom, grace, faith, etc...), He will indeed answer every time. Thank you for sharing!

Yeah but his dispensations of his power have changed or are you still trying to pick manna off the ground, have you seen any red sea parting. No, I did not think so. What about a pillar of fire and cloud? Look into dispensationalism, covenant theology and Gods outpouring. We are in the age of grace and close to end times, God is pouring out his spirit and people are having visions and dreaming dreams( mostly muslims who convert) Personally I am a concentric cessationist. So tongues and healing is almost all dead, but God still might use it rarely(dont want to put GOd in a box and say what he can and can't do) with that being said most of the charismatics and Pentecostals are speaking gibberish and baby talk imitating each other. also notice that all of the name it and claim it and prosperity gospel false teachers come out of charismatic Pentecostalism. Well not all the worst is the Pope Francis. But Kenneth Copeland and Benny hinn and all the rest of the greedy "your never supposed to be sick" false teachers come from charismatic circles. tongues was dead for 1900 years and all of a sudden it restarted.

Perhaps you should get into the bible more, try reading it cover to cover and learn some church history, look into covenant theology, learn from charles fox parnhams mistakes, get away from Benny Hinn and Kenneth copeland and look into dispensationalism and concentric cessationism. Why is it all the people speaking in toungues are not speaking a real language, (for the most part, aside from maybe Jack Hayford and Jackie Pullenger) the rest are just babbling gibberish and baby talk.

Wow, you have definite opinions. You build a box with statements, put God into it, then say that you don't want to put God into the box after nailing the lid closed. Speaking in tongues is faked, always has been from the beginning. Everything God has given man, Satan has created multiple counterfeits. Speaking in tongues is also not a public display. There are guidelines, it is something personal and private between the Holy Spirit within you and the Father above. Yes it is edifying, but don't think for a moment that the line of communication between the trinity has been severed and that Speaking in tongues ever died or will ever cease. Healing has also not ceased. Yes there are charlatans, yes Satan provides counterfeits. Doesn't mean that God has changed. God hasn't withheld His Spirit nor any of the good gifts. Why would you believe in the dreams and visions and not believe in anything else? Or is it that you just do not question the dreams or visions... and you struggle to believe, because to believe you must surrender and to surrender means you will change... Don't stop where Nicodemus stopped.... don't just be a fan of God in the stands. Come down to out of the stands and join the team.

@justinandtiffany
@justinandtiffany 6 күн бұрын
No, we cannot give scripture to support the demoralization that takes place in churches like the UPCI. There isn't any. There is however, scripture to support NOT losing your autonomy when being a member of any church group: Philippians 2:12-13 - instructs us to take personal responsibility in our own faith journey 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - shows that Scripture itself is the primary guide for believers Galatians 6:3-5 - encourages autonomy in our faith journey In this short (and the episode it is tied to), we discuss that even though not all churches/pastors are out to intentionally steal your personal agency, most modern christian churches/pastors are indeed set up to create dependents. And this is not biblical. Our purpose in this episode was to affirm the importance of individual study, growth, and reliance on the Holy Spirit, rather than an over-dependence on human leaders. Hopefully this helps....thank you :)

I find it interesting that your podcast seems to come against the UPCI. (I have not looked into many of your videos so I am replying without much info). I don’t think that being a part of any organization will save your soul…lol…but is the statement being made in this short targeting that specific group? We should all Philippians 2:12 … right? I think “religious and non-religious entities” want a following and intentions are not always obvious (this channel could be in this category idk)…but I don’t think the generalization made is accurate. That’s why I asked for context and I appreciate your response. I hope wherever you attend church, if you do, you are pointed to Jesus and y’all continue to Phil 2:12. Blessings

The reason why the fig leaves didn’t cover Adam and Eve is because the fig leaves didn’t require shedding of blood. God made a sacrifice and clothed them with redemption of their sin against Him. The same reason Cain’s offering was rejected and Abel’s was accepted. Without shedding of blood there is no redemption.

And the inconsistency is staggering. If ALL pants/divided skirts were a sin 70 years ago, then it should be a no-brainer that they are still sin today, because God does NOT change. And trying to find a solid place to stand on “the rules” is impossible because as they are twisting Scripture to make one point in one sermon, they will completely obliterate that that point in another sermon where they are trying to force home another point.

I know this is two years old. But my journey with Christ has been rocked by my best friend of 25 years since I was 14. He’d claim I wasn’t a true believer and I’d go to hell and loving Jesus with all my heart simply was not enough. I had to have the gift of tongues… I pray for it but I will not falsify a religious experience. They say I won’t yield to Christ but I don’t know what that means when my best friend himself speaks immorally and judges others harshly while feeling righteous. It’s hurt me and I still years later can’t bear to talk to him because he always rounds it back to I’m not a true follower. Heavenly Father, thank you for others who love you and want to experience true things and not to fake the closeness to you. I pray for them, my best friend, and anyone else struggling because they haven’t spoken in tongues -Forgive me lord for I know not what I do is wrong if I am supposed to. It is all this I pray in Jesus name, Amen

Also, acts 8 shows the Samaritan people receive the word and were baptized yet did not have the Holy Spirit until the apostles came to them and laid hands on them. If gender distinction was really important to the Holiness Pentecostal movement, they wouldn't disallow women to look feminine. Even in the Scripture, jewelry was given to women as a mark of beauty. One of the main distinctions in dress during the Old Testament Jewish time (Read the Talmud and other Rabbinical teachings) was docration of dress, I.e., Jewelry and Makeup vs. Beards and Weapons. The Holiness tradition takes 1940's America and makes that somehow God's eutopia of Holiness. This is purely fallacious.

My final comment: DKB states at 1:05:00 in this video that because they have experience, it must be true. He said, "We know what proper use looks like" based on their experiences. Does he not realize how fallacious this is? A psychotic episode is experience. Hindu rapture is an experience. Islamic rapture is an experience. Does that experience define 'proper use'? Only, and that's a big 'if', it is a foundational event. I.e., what we see written through the Apostles was foundational. (i.e., Acts 2:43, Acts 4:16) They were the foundation of the church. What they did and taught is the definition of 'proper use'. And, they did not endorse what DKB is espousing here. In fact, Paul said this, which flies in the face of this nonsense: "I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers,[a] that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another." 1 Corinthians 4:6 If it isn't written, it isn't proper.

God cursed humanity by confusing, but when the messiah, the one to undoing all curses came, he brought every language together to be understood by even those who didn't speak it. Yet they want the babel discord.

Interestingly, they also mimic the behavior of the prophets of Baal from 1 Kings 18, whipping themselves up, shouting, screaming, for hours, trying to get God's attention as if He will only respond after they've worked hard enough... When Elijah prayed, it was a simply, momentary prayer, and God responded. Pentecostals unfortunately look more like the examples of Scripture of what we are not supposed to be/do than they are the good examples.

I believe there are genuine examples of speaking in tongues. I have seen them, I have talked to and heard from ministers in other denominations who witnessed examples in the Pentecostal church that were real. But the thing is when people spoke in true tongues in the Bible, they didn't have to "pray through" for hours or days to receive the gift. God just gave it "like a mighty runshing wind." Meaning it was instant. No alter call coaching, no baby talk babbling at first, no begging God for the gift. I have even known about people who encountered the gift alone in their prayer time who had no idea about this "Pentecostal experience" of ecstatic gibberish. That said, I think the Pentecostal church and Charismatic churches have put the experience of tongues on such a high pedestal that it's become an object of worship over the Father for them. I have heard plenty of stories of pastors who will admonish somebody if they don't hear them speaking in tongues in prayer at church. The idea is that they are "backslidden". Which is not Biblical at all. If it's truly evidence of the gift of the Holy Spirit, it's without repentance from God. Meaning He's not going to take away the gift. So Christians living in complete sin could speak in tongues if they so pursue it. Though the question is are most of them faking it? Making people think if they don't experience this every day, especially every church service, that they are straying away from God is a dangerous theology for certain.

key words, when the day pentecost came. This was a differnt day from when the 120 gathered. In that setting they neededto select another apostle since Judas had transgressed. They had eleven and needed one more to have the twelve. The lots were cast and they fell on Mathais. Then when the day of Pentecost came (antother day) where Peter in the eleven stood up and began to speak. The question was asked, ow is it these galalien men are speaking our language. You see galalien men , not 120 where in that setting you had women. I dont know whhy people cant realize these were two different times. Jesus had been with his disciples for 40 days. When the Apostles returned to Jeruselum there were 10 days left until the day of Pentecost. This is when they enterd where the 120 were and the lots were cast. People really need to study this out. Also the ones that were told to tarry until they be endued with power were the apostles.
