In my opinion, this was one of the signature TP &the HB's songs that shot this band into rock n roll stardom. The bass riff is just bad ass. Match that up with Tom's phenomenal vocals and Mike's guitar jam, and WOW! No other rock band had the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers sound. This is what a super group truly sounds like. The world of rock music will never be the same without Mr Tom Petty in it. Every member of this band is exceptional. And together they were the sound that moved generations back then and will for eternity.

It's one of my favorites too, but the one where he is second to Stevie Nicks' "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around!" (it's really her song) is killer! They were very close friends for a long time, and some people think they were even lovers, but no real evidence of that. In any case, what the hell, you can have too many lovers but never too many friends. RIP, Tom, I will never forget your first album which I still have.

I still think this is the best. Perhaps the memories of jumping up and dancing every time it played when I was young has something to do with it. :)
@darrellcraig85466 жыл бұрын
@@rwhaller42, not to be argumentative, but actually Stop Dragging My Heart Around is not "really her(Stevie Nicks) song". Tom Petty & Mike Cambell wrote that song as a TP & HB tune, but their producer got Stevie to sing on it, and it ended up on her debut solo album with Tom & (most of) the Heartbreakers playing on the track, and of course Tom sang on it with her.

I PLAYED THIS TO THE FOOLS OF MY OWN BAND ON A STREET IN BERLIN AT NIGHT IN DECEMBER 1982....TO ACTUALLY LET THEM FEEL + KNOW WHAT FOOLS THEY WERE I REPEATED THE SONG + "STRANGERED IN THE NIGHT" ON MY GHETTOBLASTER SEVERAL TIMES. ONE OF THE TWO OTHERS IN THIS BAND HAD ACTUALLY TRICKED ME TO COME TO A CELLAR FOR REHEARSALS WHERE MINUS CELSIUS DEGREES WERE DOMINATING + I FROZE MY ASS OFF INSTEAD OF BEING ABLE TO REHEARSE. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF. WHAT KIND OF FOOÖS OR SADISTS ARE THEY ACTUALLY TO UNDERTAKE THIS MAD FREEZE TO HELL "REHEARSAL" TOUR IN A VERY COLD NIGHT IN BERLIN?? THE CELLAR WASN'T ANYWHERE CLOSE TO MY DISTRICT IN THE VERY WEST OF BERLIN; - IT WAS IN IN ONE OF THE DAMN BERLIN WALL DISTRICTS - KREUZBERG - A DISTRICT WITHOUT MUCH CHARM - ACCENTUATED BY THE DAMN WALL ALMOST EVERYWHERE IN 1982. WHEN WE GERMANS WATCH THE MAD POLITICAL RIGHT-WING VOTING BEHAVIOR AT STATE ELECTIONS IN THE EAST, MANY OF US ALSO WISH THAT THE EAST WOUKD HAVE NEVER BEEN REUNITED WITH WEST-GERMANY - LOTS OF THE FORMER COMMUNIST EAST IS A STUPID ALWAYS YAMMERING PROVINCIAL ACCUMULATION OF SO-CALLED STATES WHICH HAVE IN REALITY TOO LITTLE INHABITANTS TO SURVIVE OR TOO MUCH OF THE DAMN EAST-GERMAN ABSURD PROVINCIALISM....MORE THAN THREE MILLION GERMAN FORMER INHABITANTS "FLED" AFTER THE FALL OF THE WALL TO THE WEST AFTER 1990: i CAN FULLY UNDERSTAND THE MOTIVATIONS OF THE EAST-GERMANS "FLEEING" TO WEST-GERMANY AFTER 1990, BERLIN AS CAPITAL IN THIS EASTERN MESS IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR A STILL EXISTING + STILL YAMMERING PROVINCIAL EAST POPULATION IN GERMANY; i WONDER IF OUR WESTERN ECONOMY HAS SPOILED THEM TOO MUCH IN THE LAST 30 YEARS + THEY SECRETLY YEARN FOR SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM IN ITS OLD STALINIST SHAPE AGAIN WITH NEONAZIS INSTEAD - IN THE SHAPE OF THE STUPID AFD....I WISH THEM "GOOD APPETITE" WITH THAT MEAL OF HORROE !

I'm a big fan of TP, and this was the song that turned me onto him. I said 'used to be' because his old stuff has a magical quality that has not been present since 'Full Moon Fever'. 'Wild Flowers' was very disappointing and he doesn't seem to cut it anymore. But he used to be really brilliant and this is more than most of us will ever do. I appreciate your question.
