It is surspising that Shadow of Chernobyl and Far Cry 2 are from almost the same era and one of the most immersive games. First have immersive atmosphere another one is more about continuous game mechanics. Althoug I have to say, that STALKER SoC leaves much greater desire to replay it and personally I like it significantly more. ALthough Far Cry 2 is also quite underappreciated.

Critics scores don't have any weight on financial outcomes anymore. We've got you and found you out year's ago. But what matters is the now the target audience. And guess what they've found you out too.

ATMOSPHERE, thats the best single word description for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl. Games with a great dark atmosphere are my favorites, STALKER is doing this so fantastic.

After Dustborn got a rating over 5 I gave up on IGN anyways. I fear that games will one day be nothing but a platform for the devs personal opinions and to convince us of those opinions. I never hate anything, but I start to once someone keeps rubbing it in my face and tells me to accept it. It has the opposite effect of what they try to achieve.

13:25 If they downplay the impact of alternative media as not reflective of the mass audience… then why are they so afraid of it? (I.e. the entire point of the call-to-action article).

I share many of those same sentiments when I played Far Cry 2 a number of years ago. Games back then experimented with a degree of hardcore/casual balance that keeps the player on edge; though in Stalker’s case I can imagine how punishing, complex, dynamic, yet rewarding the experience must be.

I grew up with a thing called "shareware." The first game was basically free. If a friend had it, you could install it, make a boot disc and you had a copy. Done on the theory that you would then want to go out and buy the next game in the series.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is primarily an RPG (Role Playing Game) which it fails tremendously at. From what I hear the combat is okay, although enemies have too much health. The characters (Mainly the Qunari and The Blight) look nothing like previous installations and semi goofy. Based on the mentioned, the game realistically should have a 4/10 score.

I think I am one of the few people who actually loved STALKER Clear Sky. It was a janky and especially glitchy mess, but I loved it alot and the whole franchise has a very special place in my heart. Really looking forward to the new entry.

Ahh greed strikes again, studios going public is a cancer for games. It sucks out all the passion and substitutes it with greed

Saw the industry clowns nominated this game made in the back of a taco truck as a GOTY contender. You can’t be freakin serious! Stupid Poker game doesn’t deserve to share the spotlight with AAA games devs poured their blood, sweat, and tears into. If I was a dev, I’d be furious. This just proves Steam gamers will play anything. The same fools that were propping up Vampire Survivors. 🤦♂️

You should learn how this game was developed. It was created by a team that had practically zero experience in FPS development, using their own engine, which was built by just a couple of enthusiasts in 2001. I believe the history behind this game is even more interesting than the game itself.

3:00 It got away from you because it has multiple expansions? How if stalker dont have multiple expansions? It has 3 different games and that's all. At the same time the same guy claims to avoid stalker because when it released there was bigger games like Modern Warfare, Halo and etc (all games that has infinity much more expansions and games). KZbin nowadays has the problem of influencers going over the hype without knowing anything about it

I really got into Deadlock recently and I think that game is a perfect showcase that an inclusive, diverse cast of characters is far from an inherently bad thing. Each hero has a cool design and aspirational traits that makes you *want* to play as them. Wraith takes the "black girlboss" archetype and gives it some actual flair, she's a suave telekinetic gambling kingpin who throws explosive playing cards and fires a steampunk tommy gun. McGinnis is the "turret engineer" character, a bit short and wide, but she doesn't need makeup or revealing clothing when she's got grease smudges and an portable artillery barrage on her back. Haze is a corporate assassin who infiltrates her target's dreams and kills them while they're sleeping. Lady Geist is an old bourgeoisie femme fatale who keeps her beauty through her midnight years by sucking the life out of others. My point is that the problem with something like Concord isn't "this game is too woke", its that Concord is a shitty, uninspired game with characters who are boring at best and horribly designed at worst, and corporate executives said "make this game appeal to everyone!" without actually knowing what representation means or what it can do for a game when its done right. I think inclusion is important, but when it's obviously hamfisted without a second thought, it's just offputting.

18:53. "That's what players want more than anything: content" Yeah, I'm not sure about that. That line of thinking is what gives us bloated catastrophes like Assassin's Creed Valhalla...

If you're a reader I recommend a short novel called "Roadside Picnic" which is basically the birthplace of the "stalker-like" genre complete with anomalies and relics. It's very Russian and it takes you into another world like the exclusion zone.

Nice to know that you enjoyed one of my favorite games of my youth so much. When I played Half Life 2 back then, it also reminded me of STALKER. Both games take place in a run-down and inhospitable Eastern Europe, throw you more or less abruptly into the world and have an unfathomable mystery wafting around in the background.

The reason why STALKER "flew under the radar" is because it was almost unplayable when it first came out. The patches took multiple years and by then nobody gave a flying fuck anymore. Im not holding my breath for part 2, sys requirements already speak volumes.

I highly recommend the mod-framework "Anomaly" and for that the mod pack "Gamma". "STALKER: Gamma" is easily one of the best open-world RPGs right now when it comes to immersion - maybe even the best. And it's literally a pack of mods for a >15 years old game.
