Poe 1 is awesome. Nowdays a 2 after a name means a worse quality secuel than the original, but poe 1 has so many good elements that it just makes sense that the secuel is so good

It's not just the gaming industry. Every industry is being systematically destroyed by these greedy executives with their KPIs + shareholders. The important question to ask everyone is this: ARE YOU ONE OF THEM? Are you a shareholder who's expecting to profit from these "AAA" companies' stock? If so, you are part of the problem.

I'm the lone wolf that is not a GGG fan. I say that as someone who has played at least some in every POE1 league since Legion league and has spent over $1800.00 in cosmetics. GGG designs its game for a very particular audience. They do well with that audience. But that audience is niche. I consider POE much like I consider Eve Online. It damn sure isn't for everyone! That is why I don't see POE was a wakeup call type game at all. It has a pretty new Unreal Engine to make it look really nice, but so far, I am not seeing any innovation and I am not seeing anything that makes me think that POE2 is going to appeal to a wider audience. Maybe there isn't a modern day ARPG that appeals to a wider audience because the genre just does not appeal to that many people. The genre is grindy and lots of gamers are just not into the grind. I have seen more innovation coming from 11th Hour Games, Last Epoch, to be honest. It has the best crafting system of any ARPG. It has a real working auction house, and they developed a way to make SSF viable and not as much of a penalty as it is in other games. And it forced other games to reconsider some of their stances. Each of the ARPG franchises gives its intended target audience what it wants. POE gives the streamers and no lifers who play 8-12 hours a day what they want. D4 gives the casuals what they want. And Last Epoch gives people in the middle, like me, what they want. Truthfully, I don't want either D4 or LE to do anything POE2 is doing. POE2 is not made for me, and I would like the games that are made for me not to end up like POE1 or 2. Just as POE players don't want POE to end up like D4.

Ubisoft feels like the "yes" man developer who got so lost saying yes that they forgot to say no. When you are so worried about triggering people its no wonder that shit decisions go through to development. All it would have taken would be a few strong willed people to stand up and say "having a black main protagonist in a game about japanese culture is not a good idea" for them to be steered back in the right direction. The problem lies in the fact that people at the company are so worried about being fired for saying anything at all that could be viewed as offensive. 2025 needs to be a year where we fight back against this ridiculous expectation to save peoples feelings at all costs. You can't go through your entire life without offending people, and the people who actively get offended are now often the problem. They promote being "offended" as a valid victimhood that is often invalid, but because everybody is too afraid to say anything contrarily its just accepted. Saying something like "we dont need this much diversity" should not be viewed as an offensive thing. Especially if it is accurate to the type of game you are making. Making every third character gay or lesbian in a historical game where they were often not public or even accepted during that time isn't a good way to counter historical mistakes. Not to mention, most gamers dont care about that kind of thing. You should be thinking primarily about the majority of the people who will be playing the game and not tailoring to the minority who may play the game, but only if it has DEI.

First time? I mean, after playing PoE1 for so many years, one gets used to that quality of GGG, what you describe we feel it with each new league haha. It's good that there are still companies that offer that feeling without abusing customers.

No it’s just another live service game, it really isn’t doing anything different, it’s just a better version of POE1.

Add Helldivers 2 to that wake-up call. Despite their flaws, they're practically writing the book on how to do a Live Service game and engage their player base.

It's funny, as a long time PoE player, one of my first thoughts on starting PoE2 was, "finally, the natural evolution of Diablo 2". Like you say, it's an evolution of the genre, something that when you play it just feels like "of course it should be this way". From the fluidity of movement and animations to the aesthetic to the excellent (and extremely plentiful) boss fights, it's exactly what you would imagine that an ARPG would look like in the modern era, yet no one else has done. There's tons to iron out for sure, but the foundation is there, and it's fantastic.

You must not be playing. POE2 is a huge letdown compared to POE1. Tencent bought GGG and is obviously in control of it. The game is a pretty big letdown from what they promised it would be.

You keep repeating through the video that greedy games fail, when that's not completely true at all. Greedy games fail when they are not addictive enough. The games that generate the most income from their player base are the most greedy but also the most addictive. Thx for the vid, great work.

I am a latin, dark-skinned, gay man, and I'm tired of being used as a shield for criticism by companies. I refuse to be represented by people that I didn't choose. The fact that I like to date other men or that I have a certain level of melanin in my skin is not a political stance.

Love the game and the hype, i feel like it is a breath of much needed fresh air. And this video clearly sums up a lot of our collective thouhts on it. My main question is when you say that this game isn't afraid to insult or offend, or that it doesnt have a hidden aggenda, what do you mean? Like in act 2 there are slaves and the faridun but you see by the end that Asala and Zarka whoa re the key figures are close to changing their ways. This is for mne the most important narrative/story skill this game has its nuanced and complex issues arise, it has a ture story not fearful of discussing topics that hard, but in the end it takes some stances through its story. It just feels like these two thoughts about offending and an agenda were used a lot but no context was given so im confused, with both these two words used to diss or hate specific choices in media (diversity/social justice issues) it would be better to be specific.

GGG has been atrocious in its customer service since POE2. Thousands of paying EA players have accounts locked and can't get responses for weeks. Additionally, it seems if it's not something that a customer needs to pay money for, their service is absolute garbage. They have no support or ticket system, only an email account that responds with the most generic few sentences then radio silence... GGG deserves praise for the game itself, but their Customer Support leaves a lot to be desired.

When I first started playing the game not even the intro tutorial was even a quarter of forgiving and guiding as the new one is. I think because of how bad my time playing the game when I first started I can't really understand how it would be confusing. I had to get help from vets at the time. I recognize it's a blind spot I have though. But since I have it I don't even know how to help new people more than they have already
