It looks like there could be also an option on the pop-up for automatic TTS sound, the button for Forvo sounds often does not have anything. I have to use Yomitan along with Migaku just for listening to the natural Azure TTS which can play straight at the Yomitan pop-up window. Also a copy to the clipboard right at the pop-up would be much appreciated, need to manually mark it and right-click, quite a slowdown. Update: I see it works better in the early access version, maybe there was also problem related to the internet issues in China. Still would like to have an option to have an automatic TTS playback when opening the pop-up window while reading.

I've been self-studying Japanese for a decade and a half, and I've just been using Anki and going through textbooks. I can now attest that learning through content with Migaku is much more powerful. I've been using it for less than a year, and the progress has been absolutely massive, to the point where I can play games or watch anime and understand a decent chunk of the content. My only gripes are (a) the lack of kanji dictionary and (b) lack of OCR scanning on Chrome extension (which they have on iOS but not browser; basically, what YomiNinja does). Still, Migaku is simply unbeatable. I tell all my friends about it.

I believe there seems to be less people learning foreign languages now, not more, a trend I feel will only increase with more powerful AI.

Speaking of sounds I still remember my German teacher in my first year German class freshman year (age 14 I think?) going over the sounds. I think she did a pretty good job. The only problem was that when she said "ü" (notice the umlaut) I thought it sounded dumb and a bit gay. I think I could have totally imitated her and learned to say it pretty well without too much effort but I thought it was a dumb sound. Then years later when I was 21 in Germany and suddenly wanted to sound German (even if it sounded a little dumb) I couldn't make my mouth do it at all and in my head my brain also didn't seem to be able to wrap itself around this sound as something that was language. I still feel like I'm faking it when I make that sound now. I didn't know about tricks like shadowing when I studied German so I think there's still hope if I go back to it but what a missed opportunity.

Just to stick up for language teachers / classes. I don't think there exists any teacher that said don't go out and read books, watch TV, watch movies, and talk to real people. They just know that they can only assign so much homework to students without taking up too much of their time. Real immersion is very time intensive and works best when you're doing it because you want to instead of because you have to. My first semester Chinese teacher did assign a movie for homework though. It was a good movie and I am glad I watched it but I have to say that I prefer choosing my own immersion content to watch when I want to instead of for class. She assigned it towards the end of the semester when there was a test coming up and I really wanted to study for the test and then go watch anime lol. Not a serious movie that was the equivalent of watching literature. I guess I would argue why not combine an app like Migaku with traditional learning if you have the opportunity? (I don't currently have the opportunity to take an in person class but I would jump at the opportunity if I did)

Migaku boost!!!! :D Speaking of learning how to speak as native do, I like that some dictionaries have some small phrases and idioms. I'd love to be able to save more mini chunks, set phrases and collocations so I might start doing that with some of my cards. I already know all of the words but some things are phrased in a way that we wouldn't say in my native language. I love finding those little chunks.

Hi there! I've been using Migaku almost since the beginning, and I absolutely love it! I use it for all my language learning. Initially, I believed that just using flashcards and immersing myself in the language (listening, reading, watching media) would make me fluent. But everything changed once I started speaking consistently. After years of learning languages, I’ve realized that combining immersion with speaking practice accelerates fluency. For me, this approach works like magic-especially after building a strong foundation through exposure. Even for languages like Japanese or Korean, which are harder for me as a European, I’ve found it helpful to start speaking from day one. It’s important not to fear speaking early on, even if it feels challenging! Here’s my current method: Netflix with Migaku: For exposure and vocabulary building. I don’t use flashcards anymore; instead, I rely on repeated exposure through reading and listening. 30 minutes of conversation practice: I practice my target languages daily. Right now, I’m focusing on four: Japanese and Portuguese (high level) and German and French (beginner level). For the new ones, I use the Pimsleur method. Supplementary courses: I use online courses like 3 Minute Languages by Kieran Ball for extra material. Since it’s focused on European languages, I use it for German and French. Self-practice and note-taking: I jot down important notes and often talk to myself for fun-it’s a surprisingly effective way to build confidence! What do you think of my approach? Hi guys, do you plan to add Italian?

If Migaku has a full bokk reader in the future the itwill mean I won't need lingq anymore. As much as I love lingq it's very expensive and the srs is not that great for me. One thing I like about their reader is "sentence mode". The sentence is at the top of the page and there is a list of words at the bottom, the words are words that have not been marked ask known yet and they have the definitions next to them so you can easily reasd at a glance. This has made reading novels more accessible to me but i still have the option to also read the full page with pop ups of i don't want to use sentence mode. I think sentence mode made everything less daunting when you are first getting into reading novels though.

Is there a way I can add words I already know at a quicker pace? My Migaku word could is around 2500 yet my word count on lingq is at around 20,000. Thought I would 70% of that is passive vocabulary. Be great to transfer words from one system to another such lingq anki and other flashcard systems.

I can find a answer online so maybe someone can help me online? Is there a way to learn japanes whi migaku as a native italian or german speaker whit basically no english skills ?

So nice to see Migaku going over Input-to-Output instead of Output first. So many fake influencers will talk about Output first, which can help with making sentences, but will really hinder your ability to form complex sentences to find the correct time to input new words learned

I’ve had Migaku for almost a week… there’s no going back. This is THE tool to learn a language. It’s made learning Japanese through Japanese content so much more accessible for me. I’ve pretty much moved off Anki now only use their memorise flash card system. Having said this, it’s by no means perfect but it’s pretty darn close. I’m sure that with time this will be the only language learning tool people will ever need. I’m glad we all live in a time where people have made something like this possible and i’m more than happy to support the growth of this incredible tool and… eventually… finally learn Japanese. To language learning 🍻

I knew about comprehensible input for years but failed to do it consistently until the past year when I found Migaku. My language learning has increased exponentially since I started.

I decided to revisit Migaku to check out the recent updates, and I think you've reached a tipping point. The extensions and apps are beautifully designed, and the user experience is intuitive. After a few minutes, I was already mining sentence cards from Netflix. Pumped to see the project grow.

Takes far too much time to setup migaku for it to be an enjoyable experience from the get go. This is the only thing putting me off right now.

Interesting video and ideas. I'm a complete noobi at learning languages, so my opinion isn't worth too much. However, it seems to me that watching twice and listening once is good. Watching replays is worth the time, professionals do it, I did it when gaming and it made a big difference in skill. I think doing it many times could be good, but not if you become bored. If you're bored its time to move on.
