I would LOVE to see one of these shorter videos focused on the auto switching feature. Auto switching is a game changer for podcasters and podcast producers. Specific questions I have: 1. Does the auto switching on the Rodecaster Video use ALL of the mic inputs? Meaning both XLR input and usb inputs. 2. Can you only link one audio input to one video angle? For example, if I have a two person podcast with three video angles running into the switcher (a tight on each person and a wide capturing both) is there a way to add the third wide angle into the auto switch cut? Or would the Rodecaster Video only be able to switch between their two tight shots, leaving me to add the third angle in manually later in the edit? My personal opinion: Rode should create a Rodecaster Pro 2/Rodcaster Video hybrid that is instead of being live production focused, is podcaster focused. Thanks Tom! Really appreciate all the effort and detail you bring to this industry!

I agree, this would be the ultimate piece of gear. The delay factor is important. I run a Rodecaster in a university, where academic staff often have a guest on a Teams meeting via the phone or USB connection. There is isn't a delay for a normal audio podcast, but if you could pipe that video through to the stream, I'm wondering whether it would become a factor.

Oh yes, I defo see scenarios for the use of additional "Casters", specially if we've already have them around. In my cases I can arrange for several speakers easily managed both audio and video wise with a Rødecaster Video & RC Pro II. And with that I've become a Caster Blaster! These kinds of setups with Røde products gathered in a production makes sure it's the same eko system, but hey, we could also use any old analogue mixer with many channels of audio, and then find a way to connect to the RC Video. Sustainability is the word 🙂

This thing is incredible. I have the Rodecaster Pro2, and I love it, but I’m concerned about reliability with this product. This a lot of money and it’s got to perform without hiccups. And it does ISO- incredible. I’m considering the Roland SR20HD- but I say this and now you got me thinking. By the way great video. Makes me want to buy this. But I’m hesitant
@tombuck
@tombuck Ай бұрын
I can only share my experience/what I know, so take that for what it's worth, but it's been extremely reliable for me so far. This is definitely not a rushed product- they've been developing it for years and I think they know that the established "pro" market doesn't really have any tolerance for bugs or reliability issues. You only get one chance to make a first impression in a new market and Rode seems to be taking that very seriously. It's one of the reasons why I think some features are "missing" (even though it can already do a lot). They could probably add all kinds of extra stuff right now, but they're not going to until it's gone through ridiculous amounts of testing. Any problems I have have been user error 😅, but the RCV itself so far hasn't skipped a beat in any way.

I think the thing that would bring this to perfection is if they made the Video smaller, and gave it capture card capabilities. Imagine Streaming games, and you could use it to switch from Console to Console on a whim for streaming purposes. Especially since they added the new Virtual Channels, and Faders. Would make a perfect shoe-in for that.

Well, I would like to use 2 Rodecaster pro2 and then have 10 combo inputs and 6 wireless channels. This is perfect for a larger conference with multiple speakers and other audio sources. You would be able to have up to 4 HDMI-/video sources + 2 computer inputs and 16 PHYSICAL audio channels. I used to run larger conferences and used a ton of equipment several techs. Now it can be done comfortably done with only two techs and it would even be possible to do as ONE crew operation due to the auto-mix and auto-switch. I was a little disappointed that the RCV only had two combo jacks however now I I don't see any problems with that since it's so easy to use the RCD and/or the RCP2. It would be interesting to know if it would be possible to connect TWO RCV and hence have 8 HDMI sources PLUS 16 PHYSICAL audio channel. Then these unit can wipe the floor with way more expensive switchers from Roland (VR-6HD for $4000USD) or Blackmagic design. Only drawback is that it only switch FHD and use HDMI, otherwise it's perfect.

I just never had the chance to try them out, but they seem quite nifty! I’m definitely more interested in XLR mics over USB, so I tend to focus on those.

Can you hook up a zoom podtrak p8 via usb?
@tombuck
@tombuck Ай бұрын
Currently no. The only audio sources that work via USB are Rode USB mics and the Rodecaster Pro 2/Duo. You could run the stereo 1/4" outputs on the P8 into one or both of the XLR inputs though 👍 Thank you for the support!

It incorporates all the audio functionality of a Rodecaster along with 4 HDMI switching and graphics/scenes/chroma keying/etc. It's VERY full featured.

Why would you need both? Trying to understand the use case for the RC Video - I have the RC2 already.
@tombuck
@tombuck Ай бұрын
You don't NEED both, but if you want to integrate the Rodecater Video into a setup that already has a Rodecaster, or you want to use more than 2 XLR inputs with the RCV, this is a nice solution. The RCV essentially has a Rodecaster Duo built into it, so it doesn't need any additional gear to sound great.

If two audio sources are plugged into the Duo which is then plugged into the Video, can Rode Central still recognize them separately for programming auto switching?

Last question since I’ve got on, I have a Tiny 2 from Osbot which normally needs an OSBOT UVC to HDMI Adapter if I run it thru a Streamer X. Question: Does the Rodecaster Video have a built in adapter for USB C webcams ? Thx in advance Tom!

Not via USB, you'd have to run monitor outputs into the XLR inputs.

Theoretically you could get an XLR to combination Jack and connect to RCV with that but I’m certain the audio quality would suffer bc of the preamps.

@tombuck

I talked about that in my main overview, but wasn't really the focus of this video. I'd love 4K, but the reality is that if this did everything it can do AND was full 4K, it'd likely increase the price 4-5x.

There are very few 4K switchers anywhere on the market and virtually no 4K full on "suites" like the RCV. It sounds crazy, but if this had all these features AND was 4K, it'd likely be $6K-$8K.

Why did they make it incompatible with the roadcaster pro 1? So dumb
@tombuck
@tombuck Ай бұрын
The RCP1 was pretty much pushed to its limits during the 4 or so years is was the main model. A big reason for the RCP2 was that the original literally couldn't do anything more, so it was discontinued when the 2 was released in 2022. It's still a great piece of kit, but it's not been officially supported for quite some time now.

@@tombuck That makes no sense. We're talking about simple connectivity via usb into the new device. The bottom line is that they now have a product that the vast majority of their podcast equipment clients can't use.
