You forgot the most important benefit to powerlifting. It will prepare you for the most important question by every gym bro. “How much you bench?” Weightlifting will require you to have a lengthy response on why your bench isn’t that high.

I put my focus on increasing the powerlifts and then just do some power cleans and power jerks for fun and variation
@mancatto_4449 минут бұрын
Why I don't do either (I just lift as supplementary training for grappling stuff) I found weightlifting to be pretty rad. But yeah, due to skill barrier to entry, it's not that efficient in building overall strength compared to other stuff.

There's also the risk of training weightlifting and being mistaken for a crossfitter. No worth the risk clarence, im sorry. But i'll gladly watch you do it tho =D

Very accurate. I've been weightlifting for 4 years now. I'm finally getting to the point where it's time to increase my strength. 3 solid years of light weights, trying to get proficient at the snatch and cj. I maxed last week and still have 10 ish kg lost in technical errors.
@jacob1416354 минут бұрын
With that being said, being able to train the movements all the time is one reason why I love weightlifting. I can't sqaut every day but I can do a sn cj variation

I wish I did weightlifting before I got into powerlifting. I dabbled in weightlifting for a little and got to a 75 kg snatch and a 215 lb c&j @ 63-66 kg but my joints were always hurting. Definitely was fun but powerlifting is 100% more accessible and rewarding.
@dovahkiin23PLСағат бұрын
Totally agree with everything you said. I,m 36 and switched from 10 years of powerlifting to weightlifting and but despite slow progress and constantly frustrating enjoying it a lot and snatching 60kg is way more fun for me than deadlifting 300kg haha

also weightlifting doesnt build as good a physique as powerlifting or bodybuilding so you dont really 'see' changes which is something a lot of people care about, physical appearance

I see national level weight-lifters benefiting from powerlifting and bodybuilding. Learning to activate muscle groups in the upper back, shoulders and arms. Yes, weightlifting is definitely more technical but each sport brings its own benefits. Having someone to coach you is mega important in all 3 cases. It's always a bonus to have a degree in exercise science too I guess :D.

You’re either born to be a weightlifter or not …..it’s that simple.

Athleticism is hard and takes real commitment and suffering from the start, while picking up really heavy shit takes a while to get really hard. I think all this can be applied to calisthenics too. It's often offered as a starter exercise system, but from the very start you're confronted with how limited your body's movement really is, and you could spend months on boring movements that don't feel very good, and you spend a lot of time in high reps under tension which is mentally taxing. Doing a top set for deadlifts can be done in a couple minutes, and you might only do that once a week.

I think it's also important to understand that not everyone is looking to get into a sport. They wanna lose weight and get muscle, walk into a gym and see people doing bench, squats, curls etc. You need a pretty big space to do Olympic lifts, I don't know anywhere near me that has that. Great stuff as always Clarence. I follow your stuff cause you're just a cool dude!

My main sport is grappling and I feel like I get more benefits from the explosivity of weightlifting compared to the strength of power lifting. Of course, with another sport and a job it's tough to go to the gym often enough, but I still enjoy the process.

I got inspired by Lu, Klokov, and Clarence. I taught myself weightlifting movements, and later on, I just focused on the clean because I realized that learning all the techniques would require significant time and effort. It took me three years of inconsistent practice to finally learn how to dive under the bar. Weightlifting isn't really my priority at the gym, but I'm glad I still learned it. I only do clean now whenever I do back and legs together.

I'll do you one better. I just do general lifting and casual bodybuilding because I'm unathletic, slow, and clunky. Came to terms with that reality years ago. But I can still be healthy and look good while admiring the athletic feats of elite lifters such as yourself from the sidelines. There's this weird thing online with weight lifting sports that's unlike other sports where the spectators think they need to aspire to be like and emulate the elite athletes. For most people, this will only end in failure and frustration.

I have done powerlifting for 4 years and I just started weighlifting. I'd say having done powerlifting before really helps a lot. It became enjoyable really fast for me. Im not looking to be competitive though. Just trying to get better on my own. Throwing big ass weight above your head has a very rewarding feel to it.

I absolutely love weightlifting…. Started at 18. But holy hell, the frustration of weightlifting is crazy compared to power lifting. It won’t get you nearly as jacked, probably more likely to get injured, missed lifts are painful, and it takes years to lift any bit of weight that’s worth getting excited over. It’s a real tough sell for a beginner. That being said, a properly executed/decently heavy snatch or clean and jerk is one of the most satisfying feelings you can get.

Great video. I did weightlifting for one year when I was 42. I didn’t struggle so much with hitting the positions as I am naturally quite flexible, but the athletic aspect was a big concern. I always did something and never stopped exercising since my early teen years, but I am not gifted with great athleticism. Overall it was an amazing experience, but I did an assessment of my expectations and resources I could put into the sport and transitioned to powerlifting.
