“My writing is far inferior to that of the elves..” It’s really sad that we don’t have more film and audio recordings of this man, and CS Lewis.. I’ll also say that a character like Dr. Who is based on this type of personality, a specifically English personality, the tweedy English don. That the contemporary BBC doesn’t understand this, and is trying to make Dr. Who something else, just shows you how stupid and vulgar they are. Boneheads, without any true sensibility at all..

7:20 - "Hobbits? Well, when you meet them, you know. There's hobbits by nature and there's hobbits by stature and there's hobbits who happen to be both, yeah..." It is expressing a lot. The look right after the laugh, says even more.

I think the world's continents changed after the flood to get what we have today, I think since Tolkien is a Christian that is what he was thinking

J.R.R.’s daughter Priscilla: One of Priscilla’s greatest contributions to the preservation of her father’s work, came through her years of engagement with the Tolkien Society, a membership organization and charity devoted to promoting the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien. While her brother Christopher, who was known to fans as the editor of Tolkien’s posthumous works, lived in France for most of his life, Priscilla remained in Oxford, and became engaged in fan communities. Christopher was only able to attend one event by the Tolkien Society during his lifetime: the 1992 Centenary Conference. Priscilla, on the other hand, was an annual presence at the Tolkien Society and became particularly known for generously hosting fans at her home. She was also the family’s photographic archivist of her father’s works. She went through all of her fathers papers and preserved them at Oxford.

I think Tolkien's theological thesis of good and evil as extrapolated through Christianity runs circles around C. S. Lewis'. It would have been fascinating for Tolkien to have written a book dedicated to his philosophy of Christianity, like Lewis did, I think his conception of ethics might have been quite different. Although he seemed shy and wanted to keep his conceptions to himself, preferring not to challenge or propose his own version of official Catholic dogma and to instead imply it through his art. When people reduce hobbits to being simple traditional Catholics, I think people miss the point of Tolkien's statement that as he says here, the good characters do more damage than the bad ones in the final outcome of the story - simple resistance and sacrifices of desires to temptation don't work out as they ought to. It might even be alluded to that in the end result, the one trait of Christ he says might be ascribed to Frodo, of enduring suffering, and bearing through persecution, may just as accurately, between the lines, be described as a trait of Gollum. Tolkien said Frodo does not embody all of the traits of Christ though, since for Christ it does not matter how much a person has sinner, the goodness of Christ is supposed to redeem the seemingly irredeemable who are in ''too sticky'' as he puts it a situation, a Christ figure in the stickiest situation redeems the sinner with no stickiness, and it would not have been able to alienated Gollum. And precisely that Frodo and Sam alienated Gollum while following what may seem as, the perfect Catholic dogmatic way of life at home, is where the paradox in Tolkien's religious impact his background had upon his books lies. C. S. Lewis, on the other hand, lazily just hands an allegorical Christ in the symbol of a silly talking Lion who has a perfect ethic of selflessness. It is tragic that with such a good character, the videogame of Gollum could not be more interesting.

In Letters 329, Tolkien also writes "I neither preach nor teach". This sums up a major aspect between himself and CS Lewis.

I wonder if Christopher heard his father read these out loud. Reasonably likely, in my estimation. In any case, I would guess that Tolkien's own reading style of his poetry must have influenced Christopher to some extent.

it's a strange but sweet feeling that tickles our minds as we listen to John Ronald respond mysteriously to those journalists from 1968. An insider's feeling. We know what they didn't know at the time. Thanks to Christopher, we know the history of the Silmarils, we know the captivating beauty of the forests of Doriath, of the willows of Nan-Thatren bathed by the waters of Sirion. We have all imagined the mountainous walls of the Crissaegrim protecting Gondolin. We all wept for the outrages suffered by Hurin and his children, and by so many other children of Illuvatar. So many legendary stories, so many mythical landscapes are discovered with each word written by Tolkien. Hearing the master speak to people who knew nothing about Beleriand and the splendors and miseries that took place there gives me a selfish feeling of love for the spirit of this man. We feel close to him, because, thanks to the colossal work of his son, the history of Middle Earth is part of our lives. Love you John and Christopher!!!
