Painting the wall above the stonework makes a big difference, things are looking good, a nice surprise for Sharon when she gets back home. May I just relate a little experience I had when I was an apprentice, that might be helpful for you. We often did work in large mills which were driven by steam engines and the power distributed via a network of line-shafting, pulleys and belts. One of the regular jobs was the maintenance and lubrication of the line-shaft bearings. These were difficult to access and they used a straight sided stave ladder which had been modified by the addition of hooks at the top end. These hooks were semi-circular in form and about five inches across; this enabled them to hook the ladder onto the line-shafting and so get to the bearings without requiring anyone to ‘foot’ the ladder, because the hooks kept it captive. It had occurred to me that you could use something similar with your old ladder, obviously the hooks do not need to project 5” a mere inch or so would be quite sufficient’ you could put anchorages high on the wall to the right of your loft door to stow the ladder when not in use, (if your ladder is interesting enough it could even serve as a form of decoration as it would lay flat to the wall). Put another anchorage on the wall adjacent, above the door opening to the right of the fireplace to hold the ladder in place at the correct angle for access to your glory hole (and Sharon won’t need to foot the ladder for you). I’ve no intention to interfere, I follow your channel with great interest because I used to do stuff like this back in the day, and I only want to be helpful. I’m 89 now and the one thing I miss more than anything else is not being able to do such stuff anymore. Others may not see it, but the sense of achievement from working out your own solutions to problems, as you do, is exhilarating. Sorry to go on a bit - I tend to do that a lot. Keep up the good work.

Suggestion: how about cementing the flat tiles inside the fireplace walls to cover the sooted walls.

It's a grand old traditional fireplace, the fireback is 'dished' and we want to retain it as an original feature.

Looking into tinted limewash myself and thought I’d have to buy from UK, but found it in France and closer to home in Portugal. Only a few colours, including plum, and useful tips on ratios to mix for tones. Can’t wait to see how the fireplace contrasts with the white walls. The sunny clear skies make for freezing nights. See you in a week.

Wall is looking great! Great idea to build wood storage. So glad to hear Katzi is doing well! Clearly Jessie is malnourished and in desperate need of attention, though (teasing). Previously you’ve said she is blind, I think, so she ‘sings’ to locate you? After Tilly came in, I was waiting for Alfie and the rest to come check on Andy’s doings, too. When they didn’t, the little bit where Andy saw Whiska during the stone hunt was a cute surprise. She doesn’t show up in videos very often but she seems very sweet (as do they all). Stay warm, and hope Sharon got back ok.

Thank you. Katzi is back to normal now, we just have to make sure he sticks to his special food, he has a tendency to eat everything and it's difficult to stop him! Jessie 'shouts' when she wants to go out lol. She is very vocal. Whisker has never been a house cat, they are all do different and each very individual personalities. It's unusually cold here at the moment, hopefully it will warm up a little, soon!

Andy, the feeder is designed to hang off the floor ( stops rats & other vermin getting at it) . There should be 2 holes near the top for rope/string/whatever comes to hand. 🙂

Ah, ok, thanks. That makes sense lol. There were absolutely no instructions or anything with it but it did come with a 'handle' and some cord. I'll sort it in the morning, however with the winds we are getting at the moment, it could be an interesting feature for the hens! Thanks again.

I’d put a lid on the chicken feeder. My chickens would sit on top and poop in the feed. Not a good thing.

Hi Andy, here in South Africa its called a Braai and most houses have them, some are inside covered areas. We use hard woods or charcoal, you need the coals to grill on not the flame. Make you grill adjustable up and down to regulate the cooking heat. Your Almond wood will be excellent. 🍻 Cheers.

Hi Sharron you might like to try Hens&Chicks for your driveway they are very hardy and for the best part grow anywhere.

You need deep layers of compost and mulch I think. Something that will help hold moisture and give new roots something softer to grip on. You can use straw as a mulch but you need a good deep layer.

When working with pigments pay attention to the dust. Best not inhale the dust, natural pigments can be quite harmful for the lungs. Exciting times in the gardens. Congratulations on all your successes indoors and out. Looking forward to seeing your snug at the comfy stage, it’s an amazing transformation, you must be very proud. I use the asparagus ferns as mulch between my raised beds and add to the bottom on new raised beds. Gtk chickens can’t eat them! If you chop them up they might work to mulch the ice plant transplants.

After visiting Bolivia some years ago I saw the type of bbq you are making for your mate I think the biggest one was at a large Argentine restaurant It had chains which elevated the griddles Fascinating to see and very efficient The meat tastes amazing with fabulous cooking smells that filled the restaurant As you say a brake from stone work Enjoy
