Is the extension on the left as you look back at the house a issue since it is built quite close over the drainage?
@yesconstructionltd
@yesconstructionltd Сағат бұрын
@@sa7038 I am surprised that this was signed off to be honest. If you can't move the extension forward because it exceeds the permitted 6M then a suspended foundation is required. It involves steel work etc, so it's expensive. I can't see this being done there so I took a lot of evidence in case there is a problem . The legal distance of the usage from the foundation is 150mm

It's an elegant solution. 2 questions. By removing the architrave, do you have to return the skirting into the wall, or do you have a similar solution for the skirting? Your method of calculating the size of the frame ignores the size of the door. Does this mean you prefer to trim every door rather than make the frame to fit a standard size, even on a new build?
@yesconstructionltd
@yesconstructionltd 3 күн бұрын
@@stepbackandthink Hi and thank you for engaging You can do the same with the wall without skirting and just have the shadow gap. It looks really cool but it's not practical. Alternatively you can install skirting flush with the wall and have the shadow gap above it, the shadow gap would join the one around the door and that also looks cool. On this job we installed square 70mm skirting and we ended just before the shadow gap. That is how the interior designer designed.

Thanks for the video! A question: Do we still need all this steel beam support even if we remove the upper part of the chimney? The steel structure holds the weight of the remaining part on the top. What if we remove all the bricks to the top and remove the chimney system altogether? Overall, there will be no weight load in this scenario. This will also help create room if we plan a loft conversion and need the space on top?
@yesconstructionltd
@yesconstructionltd 12 күн бұрын
@@ilgazkuruyazici4477 Hi, and thank you for engaging. If you are removing the entire chimney including the part above the roof, you don't need any steel work. Make sure you start from the top 😉 My video is showing how to support the remaining chimney properly. If you are planning the loft conversion then that would be the best time to remove it. Otherwise you will have to repair the roof after removing the chimney.

Hi, great video, at what point in the thickness of the insulation boards would you say you should no longer need to apply the boards on like tiles?
@yesconstructionltd
@yesconstructionltd 18 күн бұрын
@@rudedude8794 Hi, and thank you for engaging You always have to stagger the boards but the thin insulation is far too flexible to apply on patches- it just won't work so this is the reason why we use a notched trowel and full coverage of the adhesive. I never used anything in-between the 25mm and a 100mm. The 100mm is stiff so we install it on 8 patches and a line around the perimeter. When the adhesive is set, we install mechanical fixings. When installimg on patches you have more control and you can level the wall easily. With the 25mm it's tricky as it's too wobbly and it's hard work to level it. I am not sure if you watched the full video but I explained the reason why we used the 25mm. Purley for cosmetic reasons so you don't see the mortar lines in winter. I am building an extension now and making some videos as well. On this one we will use a slightly different product where the 25mm insulation is not required anymore. We will go straight to the block work. 2 coats of base coat and one coat of silicone.
