Thank you very much. Building a team like this takes years. If I would tell how many people I have employed and fired just in this year, you wouldn't believe it 😭 Yes, my team is really nice. All my boys are nice and honest people and I am lucky to have them with me.

Hi mate, wheres your concrete slab? 150mm I would spec
@yesconstructionltd
@yesconstructionltd 10 ай бұрын
Hi Mate Don't need it. Ever since I learned that you don't have to pour concrete I never did it again. We are screding another job tomorrow. I always ask the building control and they say it is fine to screed as long as it's fibre reinforced and minimum 100mm. In fact they say it is better with under floor heating. What is the purpose of the slab? We have built a house from scratch and that house is standing on piles and massive slab- that makes sense. It doesn't make sense to pour a slab inside of an extension as it's not doing anything other than giving you something hard to walk on. Screed does the same, in fact it is better as it's flexible and unlikely will crack. There are many schools of thoughts and as long as it gets signed of by building control is good. I actually learnt it from an old English builder. He asked me why you are pouring concrete? What is the purpose... Got me thinking so on my next job I asked the BC and since then I am using screed. Easier cheaper, lighter, more flexible.

@@yesconstructionltd thanks pal for the lengthy reply that’s given me something to think about, so is that why u put more hardcore in as I see u put in 300mm, I’ve never heard or seen it before your video, cheers all the best pal

@@ETB9090 No problem Yes, we put a lot of hardcore and we get it really flat and leveled so the insulation rests nicely without wobbling. Always ask your BC. Once they didn't allow it for whatever reason and I had to put the slab in.

Fantastic job, you're absolutely correct regarding outsourcing work. Everybody is solely responsible for their own job so the quality of work is always good, the work is faster and the end result is better. Happy clients, happy workers - its a win win for everyone.

The problem I have with outsourcing in the UK is finding good tradesmen, most are lazy, poor attitude and have no pride in their work. I'm Irish living in the UK and I can say with absolute certainty that the vast majority of supposed tradesmen in the UK wouldn't get a second days work in Ireland.

Agree brother. It takes years to find these people but it is possible. Originally I am from Poland, living in London for the past 23 years and I totally understand what you are saying. I tried all sorts of people on my jobs and eventually I managed to build my dream team and some reliable subs. too. Nowadays people are falling into consideration from lack of choice. Anyone can quickly jump in and make a few bobs where years ago it was a family thing. A father would teach his son how to do roofing and the son would later run his own business with pride and everyone had a good life. Today, construction is full of bigheaded people who want to retire after one year. Hardly anyone has passion and dignity but this is where people like you and me are standing out !

@@yesconstructionltd Way easier to make contacts in London. But once you leave the capital nothing else works. Up here in the north you can't rely on anyone, one day they say they forgot the commitment the other day they're sick,blablabla, besides their laziness attitude, most of them are incapable to mix mortar right. Very poor craftsmanship. So if you want things to be done properly, then you better do yourself mate.

no concrete? and why not staggereed the isulation!!!. screeders should not have the hose rubbing the hell of that underfloor heathing pipes. i get what you saying about the trades howver find the right person for the job and trust that persons is a different matter. i'm not slacking the work im just intriged.
@yesconstructionltd

Hi, and thank you for the comment To my knowledge fibre reinforced screed what is required with under-floor heating and this was the spec of the job so we just followed. Staggering the insulation in the floor is a good practice but not required by building regulations. We had building control on our backs all the way through the project and we actually asked about it. The answer was that is not required I get what you are saying about the rubbing. It's only at the very beginning and we keep an eye on it. They quickly drop some gear under the hose to avoid pipe damage. About the outsourcing: We are a small firm and we do about 5-6 medium projects per year. I can't have a fully employed plumber or sparky on my team as I need them from time to time only. Same with screed, plastering and even decorating. Me and most of my mates in trade operate like this and it works well, providing that you have good contacts. We share the same sparky and plumber for years and we are all happy. When I was doing everything in house, the project was taking much longer to complete. Since I am working the way I do now, I am able to squeeze 2 more projects in the year. By the way, this screed in the video is done +- 2mm which in my opinion is amazing. I had jobs in the past where we had differences of 30mm on new screed. This guy in the video is really good so if you are in London and need screed - KP SCREEDING is the company.

@@yesconstructionltd Very suprising concrete wasn't part of the scope of works!!! 2mm is good we don't find may screeders being that good to be fair and their price was very good. fiber screed is good however still cracks therefore ther reason why i mention why not stagger the isulation. i know what you mean about using different trades on board and i do agreed 👍there is good traders out there and wend we come accros of some of them is always good idea to keep good relanship.

@@flaviokepista9086 You are right. I always take on board what people say and bring it to the table with my boys. I see more and more builders moving away from concrete in extension floors. It's a lot more accurate and with fibres shouldn't crack especially if the subsurface is prepared well and leveled nicely.

Aye, it's like most aspects of construction. If you can find someone who's reliable, reasonable and good at what they do, then why not incorporate them into the job. As you said, it releases time for you to do so much more and the customer sees good progress.
