@@bannisterrods definitely not although at least it was upstream so casts were a breeze. I declared an honourable draw with the fish - 3-3 - 3 to hand , 3 got off! Hi Luke, love your videos. Just come across your channel via Barbless Flies. I'm just getting into river fishing after mainly fishing stillwaters. I had one or two fish recently on wets / spiders on the Ribble, but missed quite a few takes. If you don't mind me asking, do you recommend striking as soon as you feel the take or give the fish more time?
@bannisterrods22 күн бұрын
Hi Mike. Glad you enjoy the videos. When to strike is an interesting one, and a bit tricky.. I won't worry too much about missing fish, as often as not I think the fish hasn't properly taken the fly. The hook has to be in the fishes mouth to actually hook it. So if the fish bites the back of the fly you'll feel a pull but have little chance of actually hooking it, and if the fish takes the whole fly into it's mouth and turns it will pretty well hook itself. Generally if I feel a fish pull I will pull back. Hope that's of some help, and no doubt other people will have different opinions. The best thing is to go fishing and enjoy the day, sometimes you'll hook every fish that takes, others you'll bump every one. Most days it will be somewhere in between.

Nice fishing Luke. On that beat a few years ago a nice fish rose in a gutter …. He nailed my fly, an 18 incher … beautiful fish . 5 minutes later another one rose a few yards further up …. Same again, another beauty. A few minutes later I spotted movement in the depths …. Surely not another? Yup …. 3 beautiful fish from 20 yards of river in less than half an hour! Super fishing….
@bannisterrodsАй бұрын
Thank You, it is an interesting beat. And an 18 incher is a cracking fish, to get a couple of them a bumper day. Looking at the water, and some of those gutters I think it will be well worth a re-visit.

Hi Luke, nice looking water but I know how you felt losing that one as yesterday I lost the biggest I have ever had on , it was trying to get into fallen branches and with my rod bent double I knew it was huge but the 5lb tippet gave up the battle and a glimpse of it looked like a 6lb+ fish and they are being caught even bigger , a well known guide had a 7lb one recently.
@bannisterrodsАй бұрын
Cheers, yes it's a nice strech of water, I'll be back there again for sure. Looks like it might be good for Grayling later in the year as well. ....Thats a big fish...good to know they are there. Next time 👍
