Its amazing how lighting used 50, 60 and 70 years ago is being introduced as new ideas.

I've had this modifier out for a long time, and in the original launch I talked about it creating techniques I liked from the past-- I dont think I have to mention that every time I use the modifier llol.

@lindsayadlerphoto I hear you and applaud you, but like everything today, its all recycled from the past, and you have to give credit where credit is due. I was required to study the classic techniques of the glamorized portraits of the 40, 50, and early 60s...as well as the renaissance artists. Denny backgrounds was a mainstay in my studio, and I still have about 6 hand painted medium key canves designs. I studied Dean Collins and every chance I get he's mentioned. Your work is impressive. It needs to be shared.👍✌

I recently did a lighting workshop for photography and it really got me excited to learn more. I have been trying to set up my own new studio at home, and make the lighting perfect. I also along the way of watching videos discovered these color ones and I am obsessed!! I cannot wait to try and incorporate this in my work as well. It looks like so much fun.

Great info as always. Thanks for that. Question for you. It seems that lately you are using the RF 24-105 f/2.8 as opposed to the f/4 version which you were previously using. Since you are setting it at f/8 and above, I was wondering why you made the change? I also have the F4 version but I typically shoot with an RF 28-70 F2. I also shoot with an old adapted EF 85 mm f/1.2 but more often than not, I don't have enough room to get get far enough back for a full body shot when shooting in smaller studios or indoors. Thanks!
@lindsayadlerphoto5 күн бұрын
I've switched over the the 2.8 in general. (a) its a bit sharper (b) If I want to be able to go to 2.8 I can, and if not, its fine. I mostly retired my f4
@CamD-o1e5 күн бұрын
@@lindsayadlerphoto Ah ok. Thanks! I was *thinking* it might be image quality. I know after using the F2 it really made the F4 pale in comparison. And a full extra stop never hurts. Thanks again!

great guide for an idiot like me. You forgot to mention the angle of the modifier. But i think i Will try it a bit. I had trouble doing rembrandt getting it perfect. but this guide helps a bit.
@lindsayadlerphoto5 күн бұрын
I have a feeling you are no idiot silly. But also for angle, try a combo of looking the bts photos and also sometimes varying your subjects chin up/down will help get the shape you want a bit more!

@@lindsayadlerphoto i do mostly do loop lit selfportraits(amateur), and they look great. it is just my rembrandt light is mostly a fucked up loop light because you have to be really precise to get it right. i put the model light on and i practice with a hand mirror to see how it looks and if you move your head 2 inches then it is not a rembrandt anymore. I rather stick with loop but if i do a rembrandt it needs to be perfect and not a messed up split or a messed up loop light. And it is driving me crazy sometimes. thanks for replying..

Great info. I'm curious why you chose a 1x4 striplight for the bottom of the clamshell setup as opposed to a smaller octo, round or rectangular sofbox. is it perhaps to not affect the gradient in the background? Love your stuff and have used several of your setups from your umbrella lighting guide with great success. All the best! 😀

Hi Lindsay - I've been using Evoto since it came out, and there are some days that I think it's a miracle! lol I always say it get's me 80-90% there to finish in Ps, but it saves so much time!. I have seen lot's of YT photogs demo this software, but this is hands down the best vid of showing what and how Evoto is used! I would also like to mention that the company is always looking to improve their product and that they listen to their users and try and implement their suggestions. Lastly, for the amount that it costs per image compared to the time it saves it is literally pennies on the dollar! Props Lindsay and thank you!

Do you recommend doing retouching before or after color grading and why?
@lindsayadlerphoto29 күн бұрын
I do my color grading and RAW processing before hand. Once you retouch you're going to essentially be converting the file from RAW to an output file so you're going to be losing information. That's not to say you can't color grade after doing retouching but any sort of processing of the RAW file is going to give you much more latitude.
