I think the problem is the bigger the company, the more they spend on unecessary things that make them believe they need to mark things upwards of 500%

@What2make2dayКүн бұрын
This is always a goed idea. I'm not in the US and here it's pretty standard to receive a very detailed estimate and invoice. Saves you the discussion with the contractor and you can see who offers the best service for the best price. It also helps you when using an estimate to negotiate a price by a second, third en even fourth contractor.

If they all agreed to raise prices it would work, but just a few will cause fewer customers/refferals/repeats. If the price hike is trade-wide the customer has no choice. It’s the worker that is not understanding his value. The companies they work for charge an arm and a leg the actual technician gets fingernail clippings. The workers can demand higher wages in line with the companies rates.

Clogged toilet that is fixed 30 minutes after arrival? That’ll be $500. Get real, they’re trying not to be greedy like the national corporations. Plus if you upcharge a client, you’re basically ensuring they look for someone else the next time they’d need your trade.
@Mr-Yan.2 күн бұрын
Ahh we get this one sometimes, customer who "knows the going rate" does some head math and questions the obvious inconsistency. I agree with them. Yes, on a construction site where I'm billing full hours, materials are all delivered and stored on site, tools all stored on site, crew gets there on their own (no need for the vans).... to offer you work for that rate I'll need that setup, and if I have that setup I won't pull guys off projects to do a "just 30min" job for you... I have no idea if they like that or not, but they see the huge disparity in resources and realistic billed hours to do tidbits for home owners when comparing to construction rates.

@FrogGuy-tt1wq3 күн бұрын
It’s true as long as you’re not charging the lowest prices in town. By charging higher prices you’re selecting for either customers who are willing to pay to get smtg done, or stupid people. No way to fix stupid sadly, but there are many people who want to pay someone to guarantee that it’s handled and if you charge more, you’ll find more
@Sinful_Solution3 күн бұрын
Can confirm how easy it is to do the work yourself. Had a plumber give me an estimate on replacing the plumbing under my sink and unclog the drain. Over $1200 was how much he said it'd cost. Needless to say I'm not mentally retarded and told him pass. $70 bucks and 2 hours later, including a total of 40 min of driving, and I had replaced the sink plumbing myself and unclogged it myself. 1200? Go fuck yourself. If he'd said 120, I'd prob had done it. Raise prices? Try lowering your prices by a factor of 10, and you might get customers.

Tradesman are only as valuable as the work that’s around them. Which in this day and age ain’t much at ALL. There aren’t any good ways to make money in America anymore without going into massive debt to start a business and even then, there’s a good 75+% chance that you’re going to fail.

Bruh these companies have no problem raising the rates it’s the worker that’s scared to ask for more money. Know what your worth. HVAC companies are charging customers $200 an hour plus mark ups on parts. Usually 1.75. I barely hear or seen anyone making more than 45-50 an hour. Most aren’t even making 40. Unless you’re in a union or very skilled at your job. Even at 50 that’s only 25% of the hourly rate. Most trades jobs are hurting for workers. Not even skilled ones because who the fuck wants to work out in 90+ degree heat or 30 degrees or less and deal with shit customers and ran 10-12 hrs everyday. For shit wages that barely pay your bills because of this shit economy.
