I sold a Subaru Impreza to CarMax about four years ago, during COVID, and they wrote me a check for $21K. About a week later they listed it for $25K and sold it quickly. I was really surprised that they only marked it up $4K. I’m used to seeing dealers shoot for 5K minimum on used cars. I’ve gotten prices from both CarMax and Carvana, now I’m on their email list, which is kind of interesting to check out. They must think I want a Challenger (I don’t) because they send me endless lists of those cars. 🚗
@MyAutomobileObsession23 сағат бұрын
Funny you should mention this as Carvana thinks that I want another MINI and sends me offers and teasers about 3 times a week. That's how I found out that they re-listed my JCW so quickly - they tried to sell it to me! Alas, if I get another MINI it will be a new Countryman JCW but I also have my eye on the Aceman. I've seen it in Europe, but not destined for the U.S. until they manufacture it somewhere other than China - word is they will produce some in the U.K. in the coming year. As for selling cars to Carmax, I've done it twice, but never followed up to see what they sold it for, but it would have been interesting to know. Thanks again for the comment.

that would have been a deal breaker, that is so stupid! why would anyone renew the registration, pay over $300 on taxes, just to turn in the tags before the original registration expires. and you getting a refund on that taxes you paid after turning in the plate is probably not going to happen, or you are waiting for 6 like months to get it.
@MyAutomobileObsession23 сағат бұрын
It almost was a deal breaker. I basically felt trapped as it was still going to yield more than the Carmax deal, but just didn't seem right to force me to do this - especially since there were 57 days remaining (they required 75 or more). I didn't want to sell privately, so. I re-registered and finished the deal. Then I saw it listed for sale about 10 days later, so the whole thing made no sense. They say it's unique to California deals because of how they transfer titles (which are held in Texas) - again, not my business so why make me pay. But I did, and still ended up with more than the Carmax deal. It just didn't seem right. Thanks for the comment (again)!

I understand - and hear this a lot. I know their initial target was $60K and we ended up at $73K (without options) at U.S. launch, but you really do need some of the options to make a Grenadier into something you would want. They're still working at finding their market, but I don't anticipate lower prices on the horizon. If you're interested, keep watching how things progress for the brand as it may one day convince you that the price is commensurate with the product. But they have some work to do! Thanks for your comment.

Great video Josh. Although i got mine from Mossy, literally sight unseen, I'll be going to Pasadena for service. It is not my daily driver. I may have 110 miles on it now. The car is 20 days old. I am looking for a little metalic step i can weld onto the the rail as i told you. No such luck yet. Have you considered wrapping yours in a metalic mat color. I saw a blue metallic matte that was stunning.
@MyAutomobileObsession2 күн бұрын
I'm not a wrapper to date. I don't know if it's because I'm old, but part of me thinks buying a car and then paying to cover it up is silly - sort of like buying the ol' undercoating they used to sell as a way to eek out more $$. Having said that, I have seen some stunning wrap jobs that really transform the Grenadier. Mossy likes to take those cancelled order vehicles that need a little love and do some special things to them like wrapping or customer leather seating. It turns them into gotta-have one-offs that they put right inside the door at the dealership and they don't last long before they get snapped up. At one point I did consider the partial wrap that they were doing to the prototypes and I know that Rusnak offers that currently. Anyway, I don't dislike it, just not for me. Enjoy that Grenadier!

The selling process can take as little as two to three days if you have all of the required paperwork in order. In my instance, they wanted me to renew my registration (which I did) but wouldn't accept my proof and wanted to wait for it to show up in the DMV computers. That took an extra week. Still everything was done in about 10 days. Thanks for the question.

I'm in SoCal as well. I recently downsized my stable from 5 down to 3 vehicles. I let go of my 2023 C8 Corvette and a 2021 Mercedes Benz GLE. CarMax was higher for the C8 by $1500. Carvana was higher on the GLE by $3000. So I had to deal with separate transactions but everything went smooth with both companies.

A really good explanation, I learned quite a bit. My concern is the vehicle is still registered to you. What happens regarding a collision while road testing??
@MyAutomobileObsession3 күн бұрын
Great question! I'm in California and how it works here is that you file a notice of transfer and non-responsibility with the Department of Motor Vehicles and do not wait for the buyer to register. That way you've made your claim that you sold it and won't be chased down for parking tickets let alone worse things like accidents. So the only fail would be neglecting to file that form. But it's something that you personally have to take charge of - I can't recall if Carvana reminded me to do this when I turned the car in, but previous experience was my guide. So, just check out how things work where you live and prepare for that. I also waited an extra full day before cancelling my insurance as a just in case measure. All went OK - they had the car listed for sale within 10 days. Thanks for your comment!

Selling cars at this price point make some sense. For low priced (<$7-8000) selling privately is such a hassle, the consumers are sometimes questionable and there is always an angle.
@MyAutomobileObsession3 күн бұрын
You make an interesting point. I did think about what I would be expecting a private party to pay and it somewhat felt like looking for a needle in a haystack to find that buyer. One of the reasons I didn't go private is that I don't keep up with all of the modern day scams to be on the lookout for (last time I sold privately the fake Cashiers Check was a common trick), so I felt more comfortable using somebody like Carvana / Carmax and just wanted to maximize a transaction with one of them. Thanks for commenting!

Not trying to be a jerk here, but that car has limited interest. Not really widely popular. They offered me $12,500 for a 2011 Ford Ranger with 45K miles on it. I changed my mind, but my vehicle is 14 YO, and I think that's telling.
@MyAutomobileObsession3 күн бұрын
No offense taken. That MINI just happened to be the car that I had to sell, so I thought I would document the process. You likely made the right decision. Thanks for the comment.

@MyAutomobileObsession3 күн бұрын
I feel for you! One of my key factors in going forward with the Grenadier was the location of my local dealer (I got very lucky as they are literally 5 miles away which was unexpected). I think it will take them some time to backfill dealers and service providers as I think they will be somewhat cautious about setting up a dealer who will have enough business to keep the doors open. Hopefully, your Grenadier is doing well and the visits for service will be minimal. Thanks for your comment!

Other than a windshield washer reservoir leak (500miles) which they replaced ASAP and the software update for the check engine light fuel level sensor, everything is great so far! I'll keep you posted when I learn about sales, however even if they missed their targets I don't think this spells the end for INEOS. At some level, I think they are pleased with their exclusivity yet need to drive demand and get people to notice in the first place. Once again thank you for all the information! As I have discussed in a previous comment I really want to be focused on as a potential buyer and as someone who has ordered a 1924 model. My expectations were not met at the dealership and I truly felt like there was no value of even going to a dealership and I could’ve just had something shipped to the house like an Amazon package and probably had just as good if not a better experience. Zero interaction from the dealership when it was announced that they had a halted production however the company did reach out and let me know but I think that also falls on the dealership. A little reassurance to the customer that everything’s OK the ship is still afloat and your hundred thousand dollar vehicle will be arriving just a little bit later. I got zero absolutely nothing from the dealership. I am one of those people that’s paying cash for my vehicle I put cash down I ordered a top of the line all the bells and whistles to include some extras that the dealership will make money on and I feel like I got NOTHING from these people. That’s what I would like to see change and if it doesn’t …..the market will absolutely decimate these people. As in life and as in business go where you’re treated best! Carvana and Carmax came back with lowball offers. KBB put it out to local dealers. Long story short the local Ford dealer gave her a price equivalent to carvana. A local Dodge dealer offered her $1800.00 more. In this day and age where people are too lazy to shop for groceries in store it's easy to be taken advantage of. Do your homework folks!

Excellent question! I took the tire iron and little tool pouch it was wrapped in and stashed it under the rear seat behind the subwoofer (I have a Fieldmaster, so no 2nd battery) and there is long space that accommodates this nicely. All other tools are in one of my canvas bags that I have on the left side storage that you saw in the video (torx sets, tire pressure gauge, and a couple of other things). You are right about these aftermarket items being expensive (at least for what they are).

Thanks for the video Josh. Excellent job as usual. I really liked the sliding drawers. I saw it in one at Rusnak in Pasadena. It was $2000. I think for me that's the most practical. Its locking and hard to get into so if you're transporting cash guns or ammo, that's perfect. I wanted to ask if you have an idea as to how to weld a little step that maybe has a 180 degree hinge that flips back up. It's to help my mother who's short get in the grenadier. Even the running board is a bit high for her. But a little aluminum maybe step that stows away after use would be great. Have you seen anything like that? Keep em coming Josh. You're getting up there in subscribers.
@MyAutomobileObsession5 күн бұрын
Funny you should bring this up. I have a 92 year old mom who is 4'10 and I drive her occasionally in the Grenadier. She is only allowed the front seat because the side stepper is wide and she is able to get in by herself because of the grip along the window frame (the approach to the rear seating is a bit narrow!). She gets out on her own too, but we're always standing right there because that last step is a big one. I am not a welder type, but I do have a couple of suggestions. For a built-in, I would contact Agile Offroad to see if they have anything that can help you as they have addressed a few unique situations for the Grenadier with customized products. The other is to go simple and get one of those little step stools that fold flat that you might use in the kitchen to reach an upper shelf. The one I'm thinking of probably costs $15 and would fill in that first step to the built-in side stepper and then into the Grenadier. Also, being a separate piece it can be placed so that coming out of the car will be more natural as it won't feel like climbing down a ladder. So that you can see what I'm talking about, I added it to the Amazon links in this video's description at the bottom of the list just before the time stamps. If nothing else, this might hold you over until you can find a built-in solution. Hope that helps!
@C-Mack19725 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the quality to cost ratio on some interior aftermarket accessories is way out of balance especially on ones I’ve seen in person for the Grenadier. I do agree, Ineos could have done a bit better on the storage and ergonomic front from the factory. I’ve found you have to be very selective with which aftermarket accessories you get otherwise your interior quickly starts to looks like the auto accessory aisle at Walmart. Good content and tips though much appreciated!

So true! I'm pretty picky about things that I add in and consciously avoid things that look sub-par. But you're right about the pricing for this captive Grenadier audience. That will change in future years I hope, but at least these companies are taking the risk to try to serve the market. But as you state, some items are definitely better than others when it comes to quality.

I ordered the 1924 put my money down. But I have to tell you the buying experience was the equivalent of ordering something on Amazon. The dealership which is in the Midwest did absolutely nothing to sell me the vehicle. In fact if I had employees working for me with this lack of response lack of initiative they’d be walking down the damn street unemployed. Perhaps this is the new norm in car sales since I haven’t bought a new vehicle for 20 years which is my pick up that I still drive and I drive a 30 year old jaguar. I like to keep my stuff! Even when they announced that there was going to be a manufacturing delay I heard nothing from my dealership. The fact that the dealership is 250 miles from my home makes me feel even a little bit more queasy if there’s a problem with a brand new hundred thousand dollar vehicle. I told myself if I walk in and they want any kind of dealer prep any kind of dealer incentive that was not stated when we talked and when I put my money down I will walk out of the dealership. I truly am disappointed in the experience at this point. When you’re spending almost $100,000 I expect something more than the Amazon experience.

I'm disappointed to hear this, yet not surprised. It's not the first time I've heard this, however your experience is not indicative of all INEOS dealers. The dealer nearby me actually takes Grenadiers to potential customer homes 40+ miles away for test drives. They are on top of working with potential customers. I hope you hang in there to get the Grenadier that you want - a day may come when a dealer opens up closer to home for you. I would, however, also reach out to INEOS corporate with your feedback on this dealer as they are keeping their finger on the pulse of their dealer network and need to hear this. If they have a bad apple, they need to find out sooner rather than later. Thanks for your comments.

It wasn't "cancelled". There was never any plans to introduce the diesel engine variant in the USA. That is because the B58 BMW diesel engine is not certified for sale in the USA and INEOS considered not economically feasible to do it themselves! Every other market is offered both engine choices.

So bottom line better to get the standard sound system because the premium is not worth it?

Well, you automatically get the Premium if you order the Fieldmaster, and it is not available if you order the Trailmaster - which may make the decision for you. If you live for hi-fidelity audio, this will not be that and you'll be better off seeing what can be done in the aftermarket. I'm not so picky anymore, so the Premium audio is acceptable to me (notice I didn't say fantastic). Also important to remember that the Grenadier does have some wind noise added in at speed, so it's more about how you see yourself enjoying your Grenadier most that might guide your decision. Thanks for the question.
