Just wondering what you do with all of your gorgeous work. Do you sell it, gift it, decorate with it, or keep it in your studio for your enjoyment? I have so many projects I want to try but not sure what I will do with them when completed.

Hi Debbi, thanks so much for reaching out. I do sell them and those that I haven't sold yet I have displayed all over our loft. I am hoping that at some point I will have enough pieces to have a show at one of our many fabulous art galleries here in New York City, but the competition is fierce and that's a whole thing in and of itself to get on any of their radars. ❤️

Frankly, it never would have occurred to me to add a bead (or two) to a French knot. The texture it creates looks wonderful! I’m curious, though: would it not be easier to have your fabric in a hoop?
@ArianeZurcher212Күн бұрын
Thanks so much for reaching out. I am so used to NOT using a hoop that I rarely do, though I have when making my bullion tendrils: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5O3iYiogKx2d6csi=R1hzhEGTVT5L-R3F But otherwise I don't find them that helpful.

@ArianeZurcher212Күн бұрын
Hi Diane, I'm not really sure what it is. It's not as stiff as canvas, but it's definitely heavier than a regular pima cotton. It also has a less dense weave so it's great to stitch into. ❤️

WOW............how can a nearly 6 minute video be packed with so much goodness and useful instruction??? Thanks so much. Will the Tulip Milliners #1 needle accommodate 3 strands of DMC floss and still go through a #11 seed bead??? My daughter is having a time trying to find a proper needle. She has one that I gave her that works, but neither of us knows what it is.........LOL LOL LOL. It was a loose needle that I happened to have and we auditioned it and it works wonderfully. BUT she can NEVER lose it or misplace it. And you know that needles have a way of doing just that. Great video........and yet another way of doing French knots. Blessings to you.

Oh dear! ❤️😂❤️ I don't know what a #11 seed bead is, but the beads I use are 3 and 4 mm beads. Those have a hole large enough for the Tulips #1 Milliners needle.

I'm organizing, too, only painting, calligraphy, knitting, sewing, felting, and bookmaking. I think I have to choose what to give up. I'm at the point where it should be me who's the first one to go! Haha. It's good to see someone else who uses ziplocs to stay organized. They really help to grab what you need for a project and keep it contained when it's in process. I repurpose the tops of cake containers that you get when you buy a cake from the store bakery. To me, they're lightweight bowls to throw anything in when you're sorting or for containing a project. Good for throwing balls of yarn in when knitting--deep--and the yarn sits nicely and rolls easily pulling into your knitting. I love your needle roll idea, too. Thank you for the tour. You've got gorgeous cabinetry. ❤ My son is a cabinetmaker... Hmmm. 🤔

Ariane, I think this is my favorite so far! I can see your work becoming more free, more eclectic than it already was. As for the question about lining that someone else asked, I immediately thought, why? I’d rather see the inside, the structure, the bones, the beauty of how it all came together. Besides, if someone said it needed to be lined, I’d be rebellious and say no! Yup, I’m that rebellious child as well. 😁 I prefer freeform ways of making art. Who makes rules, and why should others follow? Who’s judging and who says those judges are the experts? I even buck medical advice, lol 😳. Oh, and don’t tell me I can’t do something. I’ll be the first to prove you wrong! Your work definitely belongs in a fiber arts show! Happy New Year my friend. Oh! And NYC - so cool to live there. Visited once back in the 70’s and loved it.❤

Once again I thank you for your video, for making so visible yourself - your reflections and beliefs, your process and product, your thinking and doing, your problem solving involving manipulation and respect for the materials. The problem with rules is that they are generally made to ensure safety for those who cannot think of care for themselves, so they can be useful guidelines. I continue to love how you say you don't know what to do, where you are going, but I see you are able to give things time, to revisit - I appears to work for me - I call it free unconscious computer of my brain whirring away in the background... Then when the time is right... I don't care when people laugh when I have ongoing projects for years because the inspiration when it comes is unbelievable. I think your videos speed up the process for me and so I thank you once again!

OH MY!!!!!!! Now my College English teacher is going to roll over in her grave when I say this: Who would've thunk?!?!?!?!?!?!?! that flipping the process would be this successful. Great piece. You managed to conquer the piecing process and the embroidery process. As far as personal discipline and rebellion is concerned..........well, I've been a rebel since I can remember. Tell me that I can't do something and the hair on the back of my neck stands right up. Yes, of course, as we get older, we discern more how to respond to this. BUT the resolve doesn't change. There are some rules that just amuse me. So which process do you prefer?? The traditional or this new flipping?? or is it like comparing oranges with lemons. I especially like the feather, the stick and the tear-drop "beads". Blessings
@ArianeZurcher2125 күн бұрын
A fellow rebel in arms... I had a feeling about you, Alice! ❤️😂❤️ That's such a great question - which process is preferable... I really enjoyed this and want to make another using the same technique (of course I do!!) It is much, much easier to form and shape with the wire, but the stitching is much more challenging. I do think it's like comparing apples and oranges. I love the ease and freedom of just stitching and doing whatever suits me in the moment, but then shaping and making the vessel stand and all of that is more difficult doing it the original way, unless it's a very small vessel, in which case no wire is needed. But beginning with the wire is really exciting because I can create exactly the size, shape and form I want, but doing a lot of hand stitching is more challenging, on the other hand, (😂😂😂) one can also do the stitching onto the different materials before placing it onto the wire shape, which is what I did on a number of occasions, so yeah, I really love both!

I love your work because it really sparks ideas in my mind! I do have a question though, when you are preparing for a show with your 3D fiber pieces do you line your work (neutral color) for a "finished" look? In college I was always instructed to "line" my fiber work but to be honest, it got on my nerves sometimes? I just would like to hear your point of view and others points of view on this subject. Thank you!

The pieces are 2D so that is easier. I would like to create more fiber work for my home but it long wonderful process for me when I am not oil painting.
@ArianeZurcher2125 күн бұрын
@@sharonneth4231 I lined all my vessels except for this last one because NOT lining it was part of the look of it. So if I did do a show I would line them if the vessel/sculpture was enclosed or seemed to require it, but not if it was more raw as this piece is, where seeing the “unfinished” part is part of the interest. As I worked on this piece I was thinking about how much I loved seeing the guts of it. “Looking on the inside out” was one title I came up with for it. ❤️
@sharonneth91065 күн бұрын
You have a wonderful point! I did not think of it that way? It's like revealing the "heart or soul " of the vessel!
