Hi Ryan, just out of interest do you include photos of the boilers in your quotes or just list the name of them with warranty and prices? And when you say you send 3 quotes of different boilers is that 3 separate quotes or just 3 different options on the same quote? I heard you say you attached photos to the second customer in the video, I think it was Paul? I checked out your website and really like the quoting tool you use on there, thought it was a nice touch being able to see the boiler photo and description. I have my own heating buisness down in Torbay, Devon and only went out on my own a year ago. Found your channel brilliant. Wanting to scale my buisness bigger and be smashing the boilers with many engineers but finding it difficult to get going. Many thanks Connor

@glyntaylor-williams35932 күн бұрын
Why don't you just implement good systems and employ a management team so you aren't constantly doing busy work in the day. You never actually work on growing your business.

Do you tell Your customers what you get back for selling them new boilers to them …??? Or do you knock it of there price . your using subcontractors to keep up With your marketing push ..
@rjmartindaleltd2 күн бұрын
No i keep our prices the same which are reasonable anyway - probably under priced actually. I will use any support from manufacturers to push marketing / help overhead Currently I’m running our marketing abit leaner I don’t use subbies either pal

Great video man! Google has gotten ridiculously expensive in Ireland too. I was one of the first on the Google Guarantee ads, I was getting around 20 calls a day with a CPC of only 1 quid. Now for every call, it's costing 10-12 quid :(

I love your videos mate, but me personally im not a fan of service plans/homecare. Ive seen youtube ads at the minute offering plans for 26p a day lol. I fell lucky as a few old boys retired round my area and i went self employed at the right time and i work in a 8 mile radius. I feel if your paying as a customer every month especially in these hard times, they dont want to pay monthly and they take a risk on hoping the boilers dont break. I feel though if you have service plans/homecare, if you properly service the boilers with 5 year full strip with new consumable parts and properly clean heating systems on installations, you will rake the benefits of these care plans as your lads will not have to go to them only once a year. If youve lads working for you thats literally going in doing probes and gos (im not implying that yous do lol) the boilers will break down more and in turn taking your lads off the important jobs and going to stupid little jobs.

@LawrenceTimme2 ай бұрын
The problem is the amount you have to charge per day is more than the median average person takes home for a week so by putting prices up eventually just price yourself out the market and get undercut.

All well and good in an ideal world but relative to other industries where companies spend / risk hundreds of thousands of pounds on manufacturing equipment, have fork trucks, staff and many more overheads what gives you the right to demand a nice van on finance and a £200 chunk of cash for the latest tool gimmick? And then expect the customer to fund your lavish ‘ bake off ‘ image. !!! Sorry mate I’m all for making money and earning a decent wedge but irresponsible spending on a crappy new van etc ain’t an excuse for overcharging . Mate your a plumber with a few certs that’s it , the majority of everyday people with practical skills could do your job . Then just pay to get it signed off .

Brilliant video, thank you mate. I have recently begun taking this approach too. I would also add that although it gets complex, there is an argument to suggest we should look to charge even more due to all the unbillable hours spent, especially as a one man band or a small team, quoting etc. I was just wondering how you work out your pricing for smaller jobs which have a fixed cost? Thank you again for all that you do
@mikadavies6602 ай бұрын
Can't see people in the builders trade charging that amount per day. We are all being undercut left , right & centre.

I'm a teacher. I do 7 days a week basically. Take home less than £500 per week. Monday to Friday 12 hour shifts and planning 6 hours a day weekend. I spend at least £100 per month on things to do with teaching such as markers, glue sticks etc for the children (school always runs out) Take abuse from children and parents (although love the children nonetheless and love teaching) on top of thst senior management is always on my head giving me more and more admin work!!!! Plumbers not making enough??? I'm thinking of becoming one! 😅 💰 🤑

Dont know if anyone else has this issue but a major issue (at least for me) is even after a customer has agreed a price etc etc you complete the job customer is happy etc etc no problems there however they dont pay! Or at best they take 30+ days the pay up! In my area there is no chance of changing anything lkke this customers take ages to pay even for the very competitive price. If i charge anything like this I'll get no work. The building trade in my area is cut throat. Always someone willing to do it for way less. Add that to the interest free credit nearly everybody takes (strangely the better off people! ) and working for yourself is a tough game. Mind you the going rate for a trade is approx £18-£25 ph as an employee in leeds area.
@rjmartindaleltd2 ай бұрын
I could make a video on this but here’s a few things to look at -make it clear on your quote “payment on completion” -invoice on completion of the job - ideally on-site -Use a stripe integration for payments less than £500 -follow up for payment within 48 hours - our girls do this or use a VA like mentioned in this video -Forget about competition doing work for less -Build your Google reviews so you are undeniable in the area We do 400-500 jobs per month and don’t have issues with debtors
@jonbarrie70022 ай бұрын
@@rjmartindaleltd thanks for the reply. I video on this subject might be a good idea. I’m sure I’m not the only one who encounters these issues. I have tried some of the methods you suggest to no avail to be honest. I’ve even tried adding that interest will be charged on late payment but still no joy. Maybe it’s tight Yorkshire folk lol. It is impossible to get a feel for the customer and if they will pay in time. The worst offenders are the better off people. Last person says to me “thank you soooo much for the work it’s perfect. Do you mind if I pay you at the end of the month when I get paid?” (Bear in mind it’s the 5th of the month….) and to be honest that’s typical. Wonder if they do that at tescos or the petrol station? Once again thanks for the reply all information is great fully received.

Very intresting and very helpfull.. ill watch it again but did you put down the profit for the buissness? Rather than just 'your personal wage' as the buissness will need to earn a profit aswell, also how much should the company make? If you earn a take home wage of say 30k should the buissness earn the same or the buissness make 10k, to build the buissness pot and be able to grow.. if that makes sense? I will re watch it as i may have missed it... but a very very intresting video.. Loving your work mate and its helping me massively!!
@rjmartindaleltd2 ай бұрын
Alright Brendan 👍🏻 I didn’t mention margins in this video to keep it simple. But yes, add profit to your calculation This could be a figure or a percentage Net profit after everything is paid could be 10-20%

If you do the hours as a subbie you can get £350 a day x5 x48 weeks equals £84000 can’t see expenses being much more than £1000 a month. A lot easier than trying to charge over £500 a day
