BLACK BEAN & MANGO SALAD RECIPE 🤤 this is my go-to salad when I need something quick and easy. I always have tinned black beans and sweetcorn in the cupboards and mango in the freezer for this one! Add feta cheese or grilled chicken for extra protein, or keep it vegan and use tofu (and maple syrup instead of honey) 💛💛 RECIPE BELOW 👇🏼 or you can always go to my site directly www.marialuceydietitian.com and search “black bean and mango salad” Recipe - Serves 4-8, depending on whether you are having it as a side salad or a whole dish. **Salad Ingredients** - 1 red bell pepper diced - ½ red onion finely diced - 1 green chilli diced remove seeds and membranes for less heat - 2 15 oz (400g) cans of black beans drained and rinsed - 1 15 oz (400g) can of sweetcorn - 2 mangoes peeled and chopped (or 2 cups of frozen mango) - 1 avocado diced - 1 handful chopped cilantro leaves ### **Dressing** - 2 tablespoons olive oil - 1 lime juiced - 1 tablespoon honey - ½ teaspoon ground cumin - ½ teaspoon chili powder - Salt and pepper to taste I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 🙋‍♀️ www.marialuceydietitian.com/black-bean-and-mango-salad/ Follow @marialuceyrd_dietitian for more healthy recipes. #highproteinrecipes #dietitian #healthyrecipes #healthyrecipeideas #healthysnackideas #healthysaladidea #healthyfoodblog

Welcome to the KZbin community Jean. No that isn't unusual, unfortunately many people are diagnosed later in life as symptoms may not appear for decades. But mid 70s is still young ⭐️ In recent years there has been huge improvements in the awareness of the condition which has now led to more people being diagnosed earlier.

I have hemochromatosis as a person who is also diagnosed with thallasemia minor and gilrberts syndrome. it's a handful. I am 27 and have played ice hockey and many other sports as well as worked full time most of my adult life. I am active and try to eat a lot but I still cant gain weight. How do I gain weight ?

Thanks for sharing your story-sounds like you’ve been managing a lot with your health! Since you have hemochromatosis, thalassemia minor, and Gilbert’s syndrome, working with a registered dietitian 1:1 could be really beneficial. They can help create a plan tailored to your unique needs while taking your medical conditions into account. In general, to gain weight, it’s about increasing calories in a way that supports your energy levels and overall health. Try focusing on calorie-dense, nutrient-rich foods like nut butters, avocado, whole-grain breads, and smoothies made with oats, Greek yogurt, and fruits. Adding small snacks between meals can also help. But because of your medical conditions, it’s super important to have a professional guide you through this process safely. You’ve already got an active lifestyle, which is fantastic-now it’s about making sure your nutrition supports your goals!

At 2:00 she says that you will not get hemochromatosis with only one copy of the faulty gene. Great video, but this part is not true. I only have one copy of the faulty gene, yet iron deposition was found in my liver and I have a high iron saturation(66%). I was just recently diagnosed with hemochromatosis at 23 and have had signs of it for a couple of years. It may be less common, but you are still at risk even if you only have one faulty gene and one effective gene

High Protein Rice Crispy Bars 💚 Full recipe on my website www.marialuceydietitian.com and search "Protein Crisp Bars". Or find the short version below ⬇️ (I always recommend checking out the official recipe post to get all the best tips and tricks for making my recipes 💚 ) This makes 20 pieces and I used an 8x6 inch lunch box Ingredients For the protein bars: 70 g crisp rice cereal (2 cups) 90 g chocolate protein powder (1 cup) or your preferred flavour 250 g drizzly peanut butter (1 cup) 160 g honey (1/2 cup) Chocolate topping 100 g chocolate or chocolate chips 1/2 tsp coconut oil Instructions: -Prepare your tin: Line a regular lunch box (8x6-inch) with parchment paper, leaving some extra over the sides to make it easier to lift the bars out later. -Mix the wet ingredients: Mix the honey and peanut butter in a bowl until well combined. Pro tip: If your peanut butter is not very runny I'd recommend adding the honey and peanut butter into a small saucepan over a low heat. Gently melt the peanut butter and honey, stirring occasionally, until smooth and well combined. -Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice cereal and protein powder. Stir until evenly distributed. -Combine the ingredients: Pour the melted peanut butter and honey mixture over the rice cereal and protein powder. Stir thoroughly until everything is evenly coated and sticking together. -Press into the prepared tin: Transfer the mixture to your lined lunch box or tin. Press it down firmly and evenly using the back of a spoon or your hands. OPTIONAL STEP: Prepare the chocolate topping: In a microwave-safe bowl or using the stovetop, melt the chocolate and coconut oil together until smooth. Pour the melted chocolate over the bars and spread it evenly across the top. Chill and set: Place the tin in the fridge for about 60 minutes, or until the bars and chocolate topping are set. Slice and serve: Once firm, lift the bars out using the parchment paper, slice into squares, and enjoy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container. Don't forget to tag me if you make them 💚

This is the most informative video ever. Thank you so much for putting it together. I was diagnosed with Haemochromatosis in February 2024 at age 51. I'm a New Zealander and was shocked to learn it's the most common genetic blood disorder listed in both my country and our neighbouring country Australia. I guess that's because both our countries were settled almost 200 years ago with large numbers of my Celtic ancestors. I personally have strong Irish, Scottish, Welsh, & Cornish links back to the 1800s, but I had no idea until I started doing some ancestral research just how strong those ties were. I was also shocked to learn that I had iron overloading since I've always had such low iron levels, right from my early twenties until now. For the past 30 years, I've actually had to take daily iron supplements, but then as soon as I went through menopause, my usually low iron levels started to escalate rapidly. Once they got to 560, by doctor sent me to get the Haemochromatosis blood test to confirm the faulty genes. I have two of the H63D genes, which I'm thankful only give me a "very slight increased risk of iron overload," but it's annoying all the same. I'm also thankful that I've been a vegetarian since my teenage years, so I don't really consume a lot of iron via my diet. Thank you for all the tips you've given in this video, especially reducing or eliminating the consumption of Vitamin C supplements. I had been taking Vitamin C for a couple of months, not realizing I shouldn't be taking it. Waving from New Zealand.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for your kind words about the video-it means a lot to hear that you found it informative! Haemochromatosis can be such a surprising diagnosis, especially when your history of low iron levels seemed to point in the opposite direction for so many years. It’s fascinating how the combination of genetics and life stages, like menopause, can flip the script entirely. It’s amazing that you’ve done such deep ancestral research-those strong Celtic ties definitely make sense in light of how common Haemochromatosis is in those populations. It must have been quite the journey piecing together your family’s history and learning how it connects to your health. I'm glad the tip about Vitamin C was helpful! It’s such a simple thing but can make a big difference for anyone managing iron overload. Waving back at you from my little corner of the world-sending lots of good vibes your way as you navigate this new chapter. And thank you again for watching and taking the time to share your experience-it could be so valuable to others who come across this video! 😊
