This video is on time. I was just looking at my field block today and I'm considering ripping up all the Bermuda grass and getting my irrigation and some electric in the ground. All the areas that are not under production I plan on wood chipping. Happy Thanksgiving!

The fall and winter it the time I do all my major infrastructure projects. That way I can get the grass re-establishied in areas between fields. I'm considering ditching all my timers and installing a lite commercial irrigation controller. Lots of digging.

Can you do this with the big torpedo heaters also? I don’t have power where my greenhouses are yet and cold front is coming this weekend, and I’m looking for the best way to heat them. Thanks for your input.
@farmerkeith18 күн бұрын
Yes you can but you have to supply it with fresh air. If it runs for to long the oxygen level drops the heater will shut down automatically
@jefflomax978219 күн бұрын
Would the exhaust CO2 not help the plants? Maybe I am showing my ignorance, nothing new lol.
@farmerkeith19 күн бұрын
I actually exhausted that heater outside. The bigger heaters will shit down if the CO2 level gets too high. It might be beneficial to the plant, but when the heater shuts down and the plants die, it's not so good. Keep Farming

Kieth, two questions. What variety of lettuce is going in that tunnel alongside the spinach? And have you ever tried growing perpetual spinach? And if so, what are thoughts on it.
@farmerkeith20 күн бұрын
Salanova. And I have not tried the vining type spinach. Keep Farming.

Nice. My spinash was struggling with the warm fall, just barely didn't bolt. Likes wet sunny 50F, tricky

I actually lost my earliest planting due to the heat. I should have had fall spinach over a month ago.

My favorites for the winter tunnel Sunangel - upright savoy Auroch - upright flat leaf And Kohlibri Kohlibri really for stability but it becomes harder to harvest later in its cycle even though it won’t bolt as fast as Auroch Sunangel has beautiful spoon like leaves Auroch much more flat but faster and very upright

QUESTION? I have a old stand up freezer that still works, we just can't find gaskets for it. Q? anyway to make it a floral cooler? As low as 34*
@farmerkeith20 күн бұрын
Just add a foam gasket to it. Something like you would use on an exterior door and the are self-adhesive. Keep Farming!

how long can you run that heater off of the 12 volt battery without charging it? How many amps does the heater take to run properly.
@farmerkeith20 күн бұрын
I ran it for a week on the little battery I was using. Amperage is going to change depending on the exact model you are using.

Doesn't nt the water in your dripline get too hot by the time your ready to water the plants at mid day?
@farmerkeith27 күн бұрын
Any residual water in any of my mainlines cools in the air as the droplets fall to the ground. The mainline in the tunnels is also white to help with this.

How is the rope being used to add weight to your greenhouses? I think the material matters for greenhouses, and the design of it as well, so if where you reside gets too much wind then it might blow away your greenhouses.
@farmerkeith28 күн бұрын
It holds the plastic down to keep it from buffering in the wind
@knowledgeandmultiskilled28 күн бұрын
@@farmerkeith Rope itself does not have too much weight, so because of the lack of weight that it has then I think it can either break, or fly away during bad weather. Currently I have a small greenhouse that I recently bought, and mine uses plastic. I will not bother with using rope during bad weather. I will be taking apart my greenhouse before bad weather hits. If I get a bigger greenhouse then it will be with consideration on my part. I am currently thinking about location, and design of greenhouses.

I don't know Celsius, but I do know a few Fahrenheit and Celsius comparisons. 0C is 32F. 25C is 75F, 30C is 86F, and 40C is 104F. Once you know those, you can figure out the approximate Fahrenheit comparison to most Celsius numbers. 0-10 is cold. 10-20 is cool. 20-30 is warm. 30-40 is hot.

if you're not tilling, why not leave the roots in the ground? I would cut the stalk at ground level (another reason for good timing to make for easy cutting.) I see that this is 4 yrs. old...maybe you're doing my suggestion.

Weather patterns are erratic nowadays. The lack of a cool down pattern for you and 6 weeks no appreciable rain here (TX coast) make life "interesting". Good review of all the prep & maintenance a season change brings. 👍

Can I still grow and harvest my lettuce seedlings if they are leggy
@JohnDoe-id9hi2 ай бұрын
Great bunch of carrots! Looks like you got it figured out. I'm interested in learning more about your farm school. I've recently started a small market garden to work with our community food pantry. I basically sell at wholesale and donate to help fill our community fridge with local produce. Future goal is to develop a CSA where local businesses would contribute to fund the operating costs to enlarge production. Small town and plenty of need, but I have some dirt, tractor and time to give back in my own way. Thank you for all your time and sharing your knowledge.

The farm school is a deep dive in all topics, setting up to selling your produce at the market garden scale. Each module is about an hours worth of training. When you purchase a module, you will receive a PDF document containing links to the specific videos in the module and any associated training sheets we sell. Currently, the first 4 modules are live and cover everything from planning to planting. Here is the link to the product page. arkenbergfarms.com/products/market-gardening-farm-school

Hi. Just came across your video as I have just got a 20kW diesel heater for my greenhouse (24m x 6m). The heater looks pretty much the same as yours. I"m just trying to keep the tunnel above freezing (will set it on 4degrees celcius) with all our tomatoes seedlings in there for our upcoming plant sale. My question is about ventilation. I just opened up the instructions and it says the space should be ventilated. It says for indoor use, provide permanent ventilation openings of at lest 24cm2/kW, equally distributed between floor and high level with a minimum of 250cm2. Maybe it was a good thing you forgot to close the side of your tunnel? What do you reckon about ventilation and your diesel heater?
@farmerkeith2 ай бұрын
The heaters have a low oxygen sensor that will shut down the unit without fresh air. I am planning on adding an intake from outside to the intake on the unit to feed it fresh air

To get those plants that big in a small cell they or either using Alfalfa or sea weed extract as a secondary Boost in nutrition both contain plant growth regulators the seaweed is a spray use use on seedings the Alfalfa is a meal is mix with the planting mix

Interesting. Bought a 3in pot of lettuce, think there where atleast 50 growing in pot. Soak them in water and most eventually separated to some degree. Think I saw soak method on utube while ago. Doing fine after recovering from shock. I start onions broccoli like that 50 seeds in little pot but, there is week of shock delay.
