It's too bad we can't buy Chinese EVs in the US. I just paid $30,500 for a 2021 Honda CRV. Yep, that's just how expensive a used car is in the US.

I’ordered the sealion 7, and after watching your video I’m having second thoughts, any chance you’ve tested the sealion 7 and provide some comparisons?
@InsideChinaAuto
@InsideChinaAuto 38 минут бұрын
Personally, I'd be going for the 7X. Feels more premium, it's a bigger car overall, more spacious, and much more classy inside. Better batteries and charging too, and better to drive. The Sealion 7 is a nice car, certainly not a bad one, but it's not quite the same category as a 7X and it's much more softly sprung, at least here in China. The 7X drives much better and feels like a car from a class and size above, which it is.

Hi Mark, love your review's. One remark, the range of a PHEV depend's on the km/liter AND the size of the fueltank. So the total range itself says nothing.

57 brands ?? In two years 35 and in five years 25... if you buy a car of one of those losing brands you are in trouble because the car is then no longer worth anything in the aftermarket

that off road course is tamer than most of the driveways around here mind u. these ev car company's would expand there market by a couple of continents if they gave them the option for more clearance. because if your in africa most of middle east and asia or australia and not in a major city plenty of public roads are unpaved and only graded every decade or so so if you cant at least clear 30cm pot holes and gutters u cant use it (the 27min part looks just like the old hi-way that runs past dads place. the driveways are ofc not as well maintained as the public road)

give them some more time, then we will see their sub-brands with way suitable prices. then we need to see what would be the answer of eu and us? emposing additional tax rates to chinese rivals is not helping all auto makers in eu and us. on the contrary it is hiding the simple truth that their products cannot match the competitors'. instead of slowing the change, governments should force all the companies to become more competitive.

Really hope we get some of the fancy features for the export version but i think they gonn a cut down on those like they did with the X. Don't expect the electric rear bench, the electric doors, the extra screen or the privacy curtains tbh. Still a very good car and probably my next EV regardless.

Excellent report! You have very good knowledge of the cars you are showing us, unlike other motor show reporters where they have no ideas what they are showing us ,they just keep saying "Very good" or "I like that" to virtually all the cars they see in the show without giving us more stats on them i.e. they didn't do any homework before going to the show. For instance I was watching a report on a motor show a few weeks ago, I think it was the Australia motor show, the report show us the Zeeker 001 FR and I think he has no idea that the car has more than 1200 bhp. Chinese car markers should focus more on Handling. ie how their car drives, because I think this is the very few areas that they are a bit behind the Europeans & Tesla.

Glad you enjoyed it mate. To be honest, it is hard to keep up with all the tech and updates, they're every 6 months in some cases. I remember the first time I covered Guangzhou I think I knew everything and now I'm remembering figures and trying to remember if they're for the right car, so I can understand their struggles. China's isn't a car industry you can cover, it's an industry you have to live.

It's honestly hard to say. There have been rumours about FAW buying them and Changan buying them but nothing has materialised and it's really such a difficult space to compete in, especially at the premium end given the push towards lower prices for cars that are about 95% as good. If they came back and were to succeed, they'd need to really offer something next level and try to take higher margins, or they'd need to make their current cars for much less. Bear in mind, a brand that has been on life support for money troubles once gets a kind of stigma which can be hard to shake, particularly given the concern generally for independent electric car makers in China. My recommendations would be to come back with EREVs and EVs, go balls out on luxury, make sure the tech is bulletproof (it wasn't before), stick Huawei's ADAS on there and get a deal to get the best stuff first, and make sure you're owned by a state-owned brand if they have any say over that. That's their best chance at surviving part two. I'd also stick to the futuristic look, basically be a Hongqi for the modern world. All that said, and as much as I want them to make it, my gut feeling says maybe the ship has sailed. I hope I'm wrong.

Just read that BYD sold 1432 cars in 7 months in germany this year. Others even less (if that is possible) That is a huge drop from last year. I wouldn't bet on chinese cars conquering Europe and USA. They look like they'r loosing that little ground thay have there. What they sell in Australia and South America is their export. Which would be a desaster.
