Trivia time! Bernard Cribbins, the actor who played Wilfred Mott served in the military from 1946-1949, and the line about him never having killed a man was added on his insistence. He served in the military, and didn't kill anyone, and was very proud of that fact. He felt Wilf should share that detail

While I didn’t quite like how they handled The Master in this one, especially the “master race” joke near the end, there are some great moments in this episode. The scene between The Doctor and Wilf at the diner was incredible. Two fantastic actors at their best. And the revelation of the Time Lords at the end… 😮 unreal.
@Longshanks1690Күн бұрын
The reveal of Rassilon and the Time Lords is one of the greatest cliffhangers I’ve ever experienced live. They spent four series building on the foundation that the Doctor was definitively the _Last_ of the Time Lords, and even the Master surviving was an act of providence. The Daleks always make it out but they’ve been very specific about the fact that there are no more Time Lords and Gallifrey itself is gone. So for the final cliffhanger of RTD1 to not just be another Time Lord but to tease, at long last, a return to Gallifrey and the Time Lords? I don’t think anything else could have compared. It is the perfect amount of suspense and hype associated with their return, combined with the dread of realising that they are the thing that is returning to bring about the End of Time.

Technically Wilf was already a companion - in 1966 Bernard Cribbins played Tom Campbell in Daleks' Invasion: Earth 2150 AD starring Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin/Dr. Victor Frankenstein) as Dr Who - a non-canon to the series movie adaptation of The Dalek Invasion of Earth (the second serial of the second season of Doctor Who - with William Hartness as the Doctor - 1964). In this movie the Doctor is not an alien time lord - he's just a scientist who invented a time machine (I don't remember if there's any explanation of why the time machine is in a blue police box in this sequel - or the first movie Dr. Who and the Daleks - based on The Daleks from season one of Doctor Who in 1964).

There is tradition started back in Classic Who where the Doctor gets visions (clips) of all the companions (and sometimes opponents) from his run on the series before he regenerates (You didn't see it last regeneration because it was only Rose. The Tom Baker one took about 20 minutes - because of the extent of his run). Waiting to see what you think of the way they handled it this time.

There IS a set of stories where Ten is the Time Lord Victorious, ostensibly set between his appearance in The Sarah Jane Adventures and The End of Time Part 1. The majority of said story arc is told via two really short novels called The Knight, The Fool and The Dead and All Flesh Is Grass. Other aspects of the setup for said story are done through audio dramas but you could just read the two books. They're short and fun if you have the time. There's also a few surprise guest stars.

Wilfred's "don't say that like it's shameful!" is one of the stand out lines in all of Doctor Who for me. But... this is a VERY silly TV story. I don't have room here or time to list all the ways in which it is ridiculous, but I think it is perfectly encapsulated by the fact that the whole narrative bends over backwards to tell that "Master race" joke.
