The reason some of us discard the outer leaves is pesticides. For those of us who can't afford organic, removing the outer leaves is one way to lessen the load.

I have been planting and grafting on my plot for over a decade with the goal of consuming fresh fruit I've grown all year round - and I did it! There has been a palpable magic in the whole endeavor - the fruits ARE gifts.

I spoke to a mother in my village. She said her daughter had terrible issues with her hands. They were blistering and bleeding. Her doctor asked about her diet. She said she is a vegan. Her told her to eat meat. She did and her hands healed. That’s incredible to hear a doctor asking about a patient’s diet. Many doctors would put her on antibiotics or other medications.

That's because the Carnivore diet IS the proper human diet. This channel is nothing more than establishment propaganda. Plants are not food for human beings.

A lot of vegans don't have a suitable knowledge of food or the ability to cook therefore cannot maintain a healthy diet.. You could be vegan and eat mcplant an fries every day that's not sustainable. However I do believe with the right knowledge you could live extremely healthily as a vegan

I always tell people that if when you see your doctor and tell them your symptoms... if the very next thing that comes out of said doctor's mouth isn't "tell me about your diet" then you need a new doctor.

@@martyncox2249 I disagree. Plants are not food for human beings. The perceived health benefits of going vegan are generally short lived and nothing to do with the diet itself. Most people who go vegan come from the SAD diet so they are no longer consuming all the processed junk food and also by eating a diet of plant protein and carbs they have switched off the Randal Cycle for the first time in their lives. These benefits tend to disappear within 5 years of eating that diet as the nutritional deficiencies start to manifest.

In addition to the gut microbiome, polyphenols affect the body through antioxidant action, enzyme modulation, gene expression and cell signaling pathways at least from an AI search. It may help folks to understand and eat more polyphenol rich foods to add these benefits to the Zoe Podcast discussion. Mahalo nui loa for all your efforts in increasing the understanding.

Yes, regarding plant toxins, there's this constant tug of war going on between some plants and those who want to eat them, and sometimes the insect, or animal wins, by learning to neutralize the toxin one way or another and use it to our benefit instead. Fruits have sometimes made the excellent choice of offering itself as food to others so as to be able to spread its seeds around. Nature is so varied and wonderful.

Different fruits would have been ripe at different times of the year, so there was probably always sweet foods available to us in the paleolithic. Granted, not all of them would have been as sweet as they are today.

I am British but grew up with an interest in food reasoning, more Asian than British, that plants and herbs have a health purpose, and also ancient Chinese doctrines that says to benefit our health, we must balance eating all tastes, - sweet, salty, sour, bitter. Also it is good to eat with the seasons. In UK we have lost the seasonal cycle because we import all around the year, sometimes forced grown fruit and veg. It would be advantageous if we ate only what is in season. I believe foods then are more nutritious and best for maximum good health.

Unfortunately, in the UK, only Brussels sprouts are in season in winter. My father was a market gardener. 60-70 years ago, he ran brussel-picking gangs all winter (this was before machines). Other vegetables like potatoes and root veg were kept in cold storage by a technique known as clamping (essentially burying them under an insulating layer of soil). Everything else had to be kept in indoor cold storage or imported.

…I have a question though… When we introduce a greater variety of foods the variety of types of microorganisms in the gut also increases… Where do they come from? How do they get there? I’m super curious…

I came across this 30 number about 35 years ago. I was told it was traditional Japanese thinking that one should eat 30 foods in a meal. I found that by extending the time to one day, and counting absolutely all nutrients, micro and bulk and everything between, it was perfectly doable. I was trying to lose weight, and evolved menus which I could stick to. Any weight lost has been recycled multiple times since, but I do remain healthy!

Since eating meat the colour is coming back and a lot of hairs are coming up on my scalp. Humans are carnivores.

I havnt eaten meat in 6 years I follow a Mediterranean diet I reckon Im not far off 30 different plants a week tons of extra virgin olive oil. I'm strong, muscular and full of energy. I wouldnt say don't eat meat, but it's certainly not a necessity. For me it's a choice because I love animals and I'm educated enough to live healthily without consuming them. You shouldn't eat bitter cucumbers as this is due to cucurbitin a protective toxin that the plant produces when under stress. It is a far more extreme bitterness than the type of things they are discussing here. It's like eating green parts of potatoes, can poison you.

I have a salicylate intolerance and sadly have to modify my intake of brightly coloured foods. I am still able to live with enough nutrition. I cam eat peas, cabbages red and white, there are levels of salicylate natural whole foods. People like me can take small amounts from higher levels of saicylate from time to time. It takes about 2 weeks to build up to an overdose of salicylate. The whole foods have a sweet spot being edible. The salicylate and monosodium glutamate protective for plants sometimes the reaction in humans is as if they are a toxin and needs an histamine response. Still a lot to learn and research for these intolerances which are different to a true allergy. A true allergy happens immediately not over time. Very interesting topic. X

Plant fitness is driven by soil conditions and how soil is managed, plant fitness determines how nutrient rich and how many beneficial metabolites said plant is for human health🐸Naturally farmed, without plastic and with less or no human interaction will determine how healthy the mychorhizae network of the soils is and in turn the nutrient potential of any plant
