Just got a eagle 9 which has replaced the hook series. Looks like a great unit, but I'm having difficulty getting a nice clear picture. I have an 1988 ranger v393 and it seems like I have a lot of debris or static on the screen. Not sure if it's turbulence because it's a step v haul and I can't find the correct placement or what. I'll definitely be using this vid this weekend to see what I can do

Newly subscriber here. Getting ready to install my HD trolley on my bonafide ss127 tomorrow. This is exactly what I'm wanting to do as well. I'm running the Anchor wizard along witb a tight lines anchor. Can you tell me the size of the stainless ring and clasp that you used? Or does it just have to be big enough for the anchor shaft to pass through?
@WillSelbyKayakFishingАй бұрын
Good morning glad to have you as a subscriber bona fide makes a great kayak. The ring you're speaking of is a 2-inch ring I found mine at a feed store for horses but you should be able to also find them at Home Depot. I hope you catch the snot out of some fish on that yak.

It's definitely nice to have but not a must.The YakGear Stack-Out Pole is great. I mostly use it to push myself through super shallow water. But I do occasionally put it through my anchor trolley then shove it into the ground. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I saw another video where they liked to use links of chain with their Anchor Trolley so they could adjust the weight as needed.
@WillSelbyKayakFishing2 ай бұрын
The problem with that is the amount of noise that chains make. Some of the smaller dumb fish may stick around but the big girls are going to be nowhere around that chain

No but I don't think the wires on this particular esc will handle a 55lb TM. You'd have to go with a pwm. I do have a video coming out on an esc that will handle a 55lb tm. That is as long as the testing goes good.

Great question. It definitely needs two spots holding it down. One of mine is a track adapter the other spot is screwed to the kayak itself. Hope that helps.

Hello, I just did this and am psyched to try it out. however, I have some questions regarding other ways to utilize the remote. Say I want to use a linear actuator for trimming out / raising and lowering my trolling motor. How can I do this through the remote? I need another HW880 ESC I think for that. As well, I thought about using another actuator for steering purposes, although I'm not sure that will work with the raising and lowering. Anyway, aside of needing extra HW880's, I just don't know how to go about programming that remote to do these things with the extra buttons on it. Could you assist, please? Thank you!
@WillSelbyKayakFishing3 ай бұрын
So I personally have not done it this way but it can be done I'm sure. I would imagine that you would need another transmitter or you might be able to plug into the same transmitter as the forward and reverse ESC. If not I would think you would need another transmitter for the ESC that raises and lowers. As far as programming the remote to control two different escs I'm not sure if that's possible. But you might be able to open the instruction booklet for the remote and see about programming the new ESC and transmitter that actuates the actuator two two of the buttons that are not being used on the remote. If it does not work I would advise to just put a switch on the side of your seat somewhere that you can press to raise and lower the actuator. Good luck keep me posted I'd love to see your build

Good video. If you wanna hook up a servo, you don't need a second ESC, you just plug the servo into the first port of the receiver, as long as the servo amp draw doesn't exceed the BEC output of the ESC. I'm using a 12v servo that takes its signal from the receiver and its power directly from the battery.

Some constructive criticism maybe. This video has great content, nice solution for integrating the anchor trolley into the anchor wizard, really well done. The intro stuff where you are showing great fish catches and self promotion lasted for about 47 seconds, I actually just clicked past that. Don't you see a ton of lost traffic in your retention statistics for that fist 45 seconds? Your channel has 3 to 4 times the number of subscribers as mine so it would appear that you are growing despite the extremely long intro stuff.
@WillSelbyKayakFishing4 ай бұрын
Thanks I appreciate it. I don't think you're in any position to be given out advice. I don't put any time at all into this channel to try and get views otherwise I'm sure I can blow this KZbin channel up pretty good. I don't do this for views I do this to help others as well as document my modifications. There is no drop off at all in the first 45 seconds according to my Analytics. I will keep that in mind though because I hate long intros as well. I do find the people who complain about people's videos are usually the same people that complain about everything. Usually even a short intro won't make them happy.

Nice kayak setup and a good build, and very smart to install a kill switch and keep the ESC outside the kayak. But you need to be aware that those 16 gauge input wires will not handle the wattage required by larger trolling motors. The max amp draw for 16G is 13 amps, or 156 watts, no matter the length of the wire. The 880 is intended for rock crawlers that use small motors drawing small amperage (about 7.5 max on my Reedy 550) with 7.2 volt batteries, and never run at full speed for more than a few seconds. At full speed your trolling motor will draw about 25 amps max or 300 watts, twice the rating. I used a similar setup on a MK 30 with no problems because I only used it for slow trolling. After going up to a 46 lb thrust Newport and running 3/4 speed for about 15 minutes, the ESC got so hot it melted the 16g wires. A lot of guys are using the 880 inside the hull which is I consider pretty dangerous. As a member of a family full of attorneys, I see a big lawsuit coming for someone. I have specifically asked someone at HW if it was safe and he would not give me a yes or no answer. Have fun and be safe out there.
@WillSelbyKayakFishing6 ай бұрын
Thanks and I'm happy to conversate a bit with you always love talking kayaks and mods. One 16 gauge wire will not handle full speed you're correct which is why I have the two wires combined doubling the rating. I have ran this setup for over a year now with zero issues. Definitely always do your research before upgrading to a bigger motor the 880 definitely can't handle anything bigger than a 30 thrust trolling motor. I have a video coming out soon of another ESC that will handle a 55 lb thrust no problem.
@ImaFisher-xe2oj6 ай бұрын
Looking closely at the 4:29 mark, your voltage input wires are single, your output wires are doubled. My experience with the 880 was in 2019, since then I have used the MK control board 2774036 with no worries. After all, MK first introduced electronic speed control in the late 1980’s. The only negative is having to use a relay for the kill switch. Hope you have a good new year.
@WillSelbyKayakFishing6 ай бұрын
@ImaFisher-xe2oj I understand what you're saying but myself and the people who have followed my video have not had any issues with a 30 lb thrust trolling motor. I have had zero overheating issues. But I also don't go Max Speed 3/4 speed is the most I push it.

The fan in an enclosed box: it's adding heat, just stirring the air and adding a bit of it's own friction heat. The fan in a convection oven or air fryer does the same thing. If the box was ventilated and the air exchanged, like a fuel vent, that could help. It will run cooler without a fan in a sealed environment, not much, but you will lose the added noise and heat and save the power it is leeching. Thanks for the video.

To simplify things, I use the symbols of fish my Lowrance unit is capable of. They use an algorithm to show fish when the data implies the return is fish. The problem I have always had is what kind of fish are they, if they are really fish. I just experienced this when my sonar started showing fish of all sizes. I felt many were shad and, some of the larger symbols could have been crappie. I tried live minnows and jigs and couldn't get a bite in 30 minutes of trying. So, either the symbols were not really fish, or the crappie were not biting. How does a person know which is the case? I have no confidence in what I am seeing on my screen I had a Hummingbird fish finder that showed symbols and encountered the same problem many times.
