Marshall vintage speakers are designed to work with EL34s, I believe you're using KT66 tubes in the 5150 circuit therefore you should be using regular 60 Watt vintage 30s, in my opinion, mind you I'm at the beginning of your video but why not make the call lol
@LordofDiamondsMetal3 күн бұрын
I don't have KT66s in the 6505 and it doesn't matter either way because tubes do not have the capability to equalize. I've got plenty of regular vintage 30s and they all sound quite different - it's impossible to pin down the sound to one thing. These Marshall Vintages in particular just aren't that great

@@LordofDiamondsMetal my mistake 6L6s, they're great with particular heads, but everyone's ears can be different

It seems like it wasn't long ago that we'd just plug into a cab and if it sounded good (which it usually did) that was it. Now we're getting into where glue globs are on a cone. Craziness, its all a mental game that all these internet videos have brainwashed into us. Us meaning myself included. Now I have to listen to hear if my speakers are punchy, flubby, fat or fizzy. Its NUTS!! And I really don't even know what any of that even means!!

I think the advent of easily accessible home recording technology has changed things around. You're right - you plug into a cabinet, whether it be a Mesa or a Crate, and in person you just think "yep, it sounds like a cabinet, all right." Once you're able to hear it under a microphone back to back, though, you begin to realize what a wild difference it can be. I like how we're able to do such things now. It's cracked the seal on a bunch of knowledge that helps people get the sounds they want without as much guesswork

Celestion already fixed the china speakers, it was traced to the different dust cap the china ones used to use, now they use the same as the mesa british factory make uses. Sound much better now. Celestion later went on to deny thereever was some sort of issue, even being openly involved with tracking the so called issue and confirming the changes. And videos have been deleted, the cover up insues and rewriting history as if it were a myth. 😊

You can put in dv77's now use different ohms of course and have dual inputs for stereo sound. 😊
@LordofDiamondsMetal6 күн бұрын
I'm sure it would sound better but I don't really have the cash to drop on brand new speakers right now. Besides, I'm more interested now in finding old stuff that's cheap and/or unique. Modern speakers are predictable and boring right out of the box. Stuff that's been around for 20 or more years has had time to age and there's a greater chance you get something special or at least distinctive

I agree they're not great just ok. Bought 2 of them, they're brighter and alittle harsher than my mesa v30s and even my Chinese v30.

Nice video. I hear the opposite. I am hearing that high end spike on the China. It is not on the mesa. The Mesa also has a better more balanced growl and blends nicely in the highs.👂

Do you think they sound bad in the room?
@LordofDiamondsMetal29 күн бұрын
I've never thought a speaker sounded bad "in the room". I always just think "yep, that's a speaker/cabinet, all right." The volume's too high, my aural memory isn't that sharp, and the cumulative effect of the room and my physical position makes it impossible for me to make a good judgement, and impossible for anyone to make a good judgement. You've gotta put it under a microphone to do any actual evaluation

Most of the time the problem with these cheap cabs is volume you can get them to sound good at low volumes but when you try to play with a drummer they crap out as soon as you push them

How to find the tones ? isn’t it different for each instrumental ??
@LordofDiamondsMetalАй бұрын
Yeah, it's kinda just trial and error. I have a good sense of pitch so it wasn't to hard for me to turn it on and eliminate the tones until I had the ones I need. There is probably an easier way but I haven't found it

Good comparison. Maybe rock, blues and jazz with more clean tone next time.
@LordofDiamondsMetalАй бұрын
I'm a metal person so distortion is what I'm familiar with. I also don't have the chops for blues and jazz. I apologize. Furthermore, the more saturated frequency spectrum that a distorted sound gives you highlights the difference between speakers more clearly when compared to a clean sound. If you've got a problem with the comparison methodology, then a distorted sound is objectively a better lens for differences between speakers. If you've got a problem with the style I play, then you'll have to go elsewhere because metal is what I do
