The Insane American Price Hike on Marshall Amps

Well said! Marshall were actually fairly priced (still more than in the UK) until even just a few years ago. Their top tier stuff is as much or more than most boutique brands now. The prices on the 20 watt "studio series" and cabinets are also ridiculous. Even though used Marshall prices have gone up, they're still much lower compared to new... meaning, if you fork out a ton for something new it will have terrible resale value.

Well, from the European perspective buying Marshall might be all right even in the EU (prices definitely hiked, though). However, getting Mesa is the same like for you getting Marshall. Currently it seems there even isn't distribution (thanks, Gibson!), so I went ahead and I quickly checked the used market. By chance there's a guy selling both a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and a Marshall JCM900. He wants 1500 € for the Mesa, while the Marshall would be just 600 €. 🤷

Mesa prices on the Europe market aren't nearly as bad as Marshall prices in the US. 1600 euros comes out to 1759 US dollars, and if you can find a full size Rectifier used here for that price, it would be cheap. Usually they go for minimum 2000 used

@@LordofDiamondsMetal I'm sorry I was unintentionally misleading. I just mentioned an isolated example of a person in my local market selling both Mesa and Marshall amps in the same post. I'd say the most desirable one is the JCM900, since most metal guys embraced simulators long ago, and in our venues nobody really needs a 150W Mesa amp. However, rock guys still tend to use real amps. Regardless, I thought both amps were relatively affordable compared to more frequent second-hand ads. We don't have such a developed second-hand market like yours, it's always more expensive, people try to sell used at new prices. The point was the Mesa was 250% the price of the Marshall, both used. We don't even have distribution for new Mesa stuff, so they're a scarce product. You can't really compare US prices to EU ones. You have for example higher wages since your public expense is lower, rely on credit card usage to obtain credit, and such stuff. While we have lower wages since we pay higher taxes from our salaries + a typical ~21% VAT due to having more social securities and public services, and we rely on our savings to obtain credit, thus having to limit our expenses. Your prices are usually higher on anything new because seller's income also needs to be higher, like any regular person, except the second-hand market, where you can find bargains unimaginable in most of Europe. Another example: I intended to get an EVM 12L last summer, they used to run for about 200 €. I didn't commit to it due to being busy with other issues, and when I finally checked it in September it cost already nearly 400 €, now it's over 500 €. While Celestions had a much lower price hike due to inflation, on the same level like other articles. Anyway, it isn't a good time to compare import prices, they'll be terrible everywhere.
