was that a glass ornament or a shatterproof ornament? Finding harder and harder to find true glass ornaments, most stores care only shatterproof...plastic... Can you even engrave shatterproof ornaments?

Hey 👋 Yes they are glass. Michaels and Walmart has a great selections and that is normally where our followers get them, if you are in the US. Technically you can engrave shatter proof ones and will actually get a white engraving, same settings but speed at like 2000 to start. However plastics can be really toxic to engrave so you’ll just need to be very careful if you do decide to do it

@@VelfCreations Thank you for the reply. Ill look around more but our local Walmart only had very few glass ornaments and everything else were the shatterproof plastics. Yes I stay away from engraving plastic at all cost it is not worth the toxic fumes in the lungs for a few bucks profit. Thanks again and keep the videos coming enjoy watching.

It’s honestly not bad at all, we have seen ovens with the duke extractor connected to it but this ones internal filter does a pretty good job. Will have to see long term how long the filter lasts though

Is running the machine consistently at 100% power good for it though? I thought it would degrade the unit faster to do that.

Great question! Using 100% power is sometimes necessary for certain materials to get the best results. While it can slightly impact the laser’s lifespan over time, modern lasers like the xTool F1 Ultra are built to handle it and have lifespans rated for 10,000 plus hours. For lighter tasks, we dial it down to save wear, but it’s all about finding the right balance for each project! Ultimately it’s a tool for us and we like using it to its full potential and we have been using lasers for 5+ years now without any issue.

That’s a bit hard for us to say for sure because each glass ornament is a bit different. Some have thicker coatings and some work with the IR laser and some don’t. Generally speaking blue light laser will give you a bigger design but different manufacturing process will affect how big. It’s something that you may just have to experiment with using on of the glass ornaments you have

Hey Great question! We should have included that step! We use some polishing pads that we picked up on Amazon. That gets rid of the rougher edges or the deep engraving and makes them look shiny again. Here is our Amazon link for the ones we use. amzn.to/3UULegi

I had problems engraving (it didn’t engraved at all) the metal envelope inside “card” it seems they weren’t the same material . I bought A LOT from Temu and got so frustrated I didn’t offer them for sale. Maybe try again or not offer engraving in the inside envelope, just in the back of the envelope. I am your super fan and specially like your professional voice! You are our worldwide power laser creator! Happy thanksgiving from Puerto Rico . I also bought the Roly Lasermatic wide version but is still in the box for 2 months+ I just spend with Covid and neumonhia almost 10 days at home and 13 @ intensive care. I refused to watch movies ; ) I was at 3am rewatching All your videos. Bengie Pastrana

Oh that is a bummer! Sorry to hear that. I wonder if those are maybe made with aluminum, it seems to be harder to get a darker engraving with that. You are using the F1 right? Maybe try super slow like 5mm per second at full power. It is a small enough piece that it still shouldn’t take too too long. Thank you so much for the support we truly appreciate it. How do you know when to defocus? You only did it on one project?

Hi 👋 We did it on both the pet tag with Checo and the envelope letter, you only need to de focus if you want that specific look to the engraving, a dark black look.

Are you doing bitmaps or vectors? If you are doing vectors we have a full length video with the Ultra and F1 including settings for rotary and without. If you are doing bitmaps it is worth a try maybe do a quarter power and work up from there

I am wanting to engrave on wine glasses, I have seen a lot of people using black tempera paint to help the engraving stand out more once cleaned off....would black matte vinyl work just as well, or is it too thick?

In theory it may work but vinyl is toxic when engraved or cut with a laser and will release chlorine gas so we highly advise not to use vinyl around lasers

Thank you for this video. I own the F1. However I am slightly puzzled. You say in the Dot Duration section that "lower numbers produce a darker image, higher numbers produce a lighter image". Since dot duration is the amount of time the laser beam spends on a dot, isn't it the OTHER way around? Lower number = less time on a dot and therefore a lighter image Higher numbers = more time on a dot and therefore a darker image? Or am I missing something here? Would be grateful for a clarification on this. Many thanks.

Hey! So it depends on what you are engraving, for something like metal business cards or the scratch paper it will produce a lighter engraving because they will engrave white, less dot duration means less of the black is removed. For something like wood a higher dot duration will produce a darker engraving because it will burn the wood more. Hopefully that clarifies where we are coming from

My XCS software sows Dot Duration, Power, and DPI. Your settings are Power, Speed and Lines per cm. What is Speed and what is Lines per cm?

Hey That is because you are probably using a PNG or JPG photo file instead of a vector file like an SVG. You will either need to get an SVG file of your design or use the tracing functionality in XCS to make it into a vector file

Hey, how do I change the order of engraving different layers? For example, I have red, blue and black layer, and I'd like to engrave the red one first, black second and the blue one would be the last to engrave. Is this even possible to do in xcs?

You need to update the processing settings to use “by layer” on the latest version of XCS this can be found by clicking the 3 dots next to the green “Go to process” button. From there switch from “Auto Planning” to “User Defining” and there you can enable by layer. If you are on an older version and are having trouble finding this option just let us know what version you are on and we can help you out

I'm on the fence between the F1 & ultra? I would love to start engraving on jewelry! Things that I'm considering, F1- the price is great. Ultra- has a deeper engrave for jewelry, I seen? Is there anything else I should consider when making my decision? Thanks

Hey! Another big one is portability, if you plan on maybe doing craft shows or anything like that the F1 is very easy to transport. But the F1 will be more for marking the metals on the surface. Although permanent you won’t get any depth on it like you mentioned. The Ultra can do in a couple of seconds what the standard F1 can do in a couple of minutes. On the other hand more power on the Ultra also means much faster engraving times. Also giver you the ability to cut some thinner sheet metals like aluminum and brass which may open the door to some custom pieces. At the end of the day they are both great machines but the Ultras additional power and speed makes it a better machine for metals.
