Thank you for this tutorial, I'm getting the hang of it now! There's one thing I don't understand: why is the bass note of the E chord being played on the A string? Wouldn't it make more sense to play it on the E string?
@DennisAnthonisАй бұрын
… excellent observation. Yes, the bass note for the E-Major or Em chords should be the 6th string (the thickest string). I may have inadvertently hit the A-string. Check out some of the other tutorials. They may be helpful as well. Good luck Jacqueline. If you have other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

It's even on the sheet at 4:33 ! So that totally confused me, but thanks for responding, so the low E string it is.

Hi Dennis, I woke up with this condition a month ago and it is still lingering. How long did it take for your thumb to stop clicking and the pain to go away once you started your therapy routine? By chance did you have a painful knot at the base of your thumb too? I am watching a lot of videos to learn about this. Just noticed days I have more salt in my diet causes more intense flare ups. And had to cut out all inflammatory foods. Thanks much.

Once I started the therapy, it didn’t take long for it to resolve (maybe a month) and it’s never returned. I hope your s does the same.

I am doing some hand stretching exercises which has helped the pain on the ball of my hand, but me thumb still clicks and sometimes locks. I sleep with a heating pad around it and it give some relief. I will have to see a doctor soon, but I don’t want surgery. I’m hoping magnesium helps along with vitamin D

Thank you for posting this video. I started feeling pain in those areas about three weeks ago. I did a ton of homework to see what was up with my hand. Long story short: de Quervain's. I needed to hear some sober advice on how to deal with it because I 'm learning to play the guitar at 50 yrs old (hey why stop learning things...ever) and the pain is a major inconvenience and I'm having a tough time pressing on the strings. I'm still in that enthusiastic student phase in my practice and now I have to stop for awhile and it's a bummer. More so that I don't want my calluses to fade and have to start all over with building them up which takes me about a month or so. This getting old nonsense is the pits! I appreciate hearing how to handle this issue and pain from someone who can identify pretty closely with what I'm experiencing. Thanks again, man! Stay well!

Hi Dennis! You’re the guy who taught me Travis Picking and I’m having a lot of fun with it, so thank you so very much! I do have a question though that I’m hoping you might be able to share your insight. What would you consider the ideal string height for finger picking? I visited a friend who has a beautiful Taylor guitar with extremely low action. He’s a strummer, so I wanted to show him this amazing world of finger picking, only I played like trash with the strings that low. It’s perfect for his strumming, hitting bar chords is super easy, but wow I was missing strings left and right. Any thoughts? Thanks Dennis!

Thank you Jessica for your kind words. I’m playing less too, mostly because of hand issues, all of which I’ve documented on my channel. At the same time, it’s the daily playing, I believe, that provides some therapy as well. I encourage you to pick up the guitar every day, even for just 15 minutes each day, for the therapy (physical and mental). Stay tuned; I’ve got some irons in the fire. Maybe even subscribe!

The pinky so far out is not needed inside that G… an open e string is the same as that far away e note… why go all the way there? Just my 2 cents. Thank you.
@DennisAnthonis3 ай бұрын
… very good question Jasper. I suppose you could elect to play that particular stanza without that reach to the fifth fret of b-string. As I mentioned at the beginning, with the current condition of my hands, I can’t play this with the necessary dexterity to execute it properly. But by reaching out to that 5th fret of the b-string, a more proficient player might incorporate a hammer-on there, or maybe a pull-off. Anyway, that’s why I included the option. Thanks for watching Jasper, and for taking the time to write your question with such articulation. Did you see my most recent post (How to fingerpick “Just Like That “ by Bonnie Raitt). You might appreciate it; it will help you learn this pattern more efficiently. Peace
