Well, you can't expect to find paradise in Portugal (or anywhere). If you're not certain of what you want simply don't come. And by the way, do learn Portuguese...

Oh we know what we want and what we like. But I do for sure think many people are misselling what the country is - which has a bad effect on Portugal as well, as it drives house prices, flight tickets etc up to crazy numbers. However, this is not Portugal exclusive... People do the same with Spain, Dubai etc etc... However, I think it's important to understand the local culture before you jump in and move to a country with your entire family. I myself, have done from Denmark -> Sweden -> The Phillippines -> Sweden -> London -> Spain -> UK Country side -> Portugal. So I try to share the knowledge gathered on the journey :-)

So would appreciate any help you can offer. Also Why is the E.E.C. making it so difficult for tourists to visit when it s bread and butter for all southern Eurpean countries, but they are putting horse before the cart in my book and already know friends who have gone elsewhere for their hols because of their stupidity.

We didn't just come here because we thought it was cheap... But we never anticipated that some things are 2-3x of what they would cost in London. And I never anticipated to move to one of the poorest economies in EU, to a small village and pay more than what it cost to live in London. On top of the price, many other things showed up that we didn't anticipate. And guess what, we made about 20 videos to cover these things - so others don't have to make the mistakes we made. :-) We have made many lovely friends in Portugal that we feel very warm towards. But the country didn't match what we needed. So we are not going to stay for the long term.

Do you think Portugal is a more beautiful country than England? And do you think Portuguese food taste better than British food?
@HyggeJourney
@HyggeJourney 5 ай бұрын
Neither of them are that healthy… we are both very much into health food, low calories and organic stuff… so we are not choosing a country based on the food :) I think both UK and Portugal has incredible natural beauty… as well as areas there is completely run down 😥

If people from Denmark and the UK are saying that Portugal is expensive for visiting families, it must be really expensive
@HyggeJourney
@HyggeJourney 5 ай бұрын
The combined cost is yes. Supermarkets are much more expensive in Portugal than UK for an example. Most of the time the airfares cost more than going from UK to US even just within Europe.. So you can find a scenario that looks cheap, but the reality of a busy life is that the price tag is high. Portugal is also not a place you do anything without planning ahead... So lets say you want to do a trip with 2 weeks notice the price can be insane.

I'm 53 and British, My father moved our family to Portugal (Algoz, Armação de Pera) in 1988 when I was seventeen and I learned how to speak Portuguese fluently over the course of four years as I was working in construction and my work colleagues were immensely helpful in teaching me how to speak Portuguese. We had to leave Portugal as my father and I were put out of work in the start of 1992 and my fathers dream of building a property stagnated as he couldn't get building permission. My tip to anyone wanting to move to Portugal is DON'T BUY LAND, BUY PROPERTY that has already has residential status!! My father's dream would've turned out very differently had he bought property and not wanted to build his own place. Hope this helps somebody.

As the mega rich buy up all the assets world wide the middle classes will seek out a country they can have a decent standard of living until the assets in those countries will inevitably rise. We need to tax the mega rich so people in their own countries can have any hope of a standard of living

@@HyggeJourney funny how we managed to sanction Russian oligarchs and freeze their money and assets when there was political will- so it can be done. You can tax the hell out of your average 2nd home owner or property investor to try and slow down house prices, but who is going to be able to afford them then- still only the mega rich. They have more money they can spend so it is hoarded and some out into assets making them more expensive for the rest of us and therefore devaluing actual money- literally no other way of moving out of this mess besides trying to get the mega riches money back into circulation for those below. Better question. What are the people leaving Portugal selling their properties for an inflated price. If you bought it for 400 hundred sell it for 400 thousand, don't do a 20 thousand renovation and sell for 900 thousand.

Part of it is also a 9% purchase tax… real estate agents cost 6% with vat… lawyers 2%.. So even the reasonable people have to try to get at least 20% more for it than they bought it for. But yes I have seen examples as you mention.

Before I even watch the video, the fact of the matter is that it's people like yourselves that have made everything difficult! Yes. I am a Portuguese citizen originally from Angola. I speak the language by birth . I currently live in Portgual. I was always destined to cross paths with Portugal somehow. Expats! I've lived and been around your types before and actually moved countries to get away from you. And here I am in Portugal all over again. You're looking for a bang for your buck. That's it. You bring in your stereotypes against blacks, women, people in general while benefitting from local dieties like the weather, cheapness etc. You don't care or look to make things better for others during your stay! You're spoilt middle class children and sometimes even lower let's be honest ! Because children of aristocrats are back home in England or Holland and are usually nicer and to the point! If it is your home you should have a vested interest in everybody! Portuguese don't put this demand on you which is their fault as well, but they view you expats as superior and more sophisticated and therefore something you should adhere to naturally. When they learn yall are some greedy, self-interested types it's like the end of a once good relationship when you realize everything that happened did not count and was not sincere! Let me rephrase that, it did not count because it was not sincere! It's like a day-care with you guys. Your points are true nonetheless
