Another cool and generous GAW….fitting for an epic milestone 💪🏻 I gotta look around, I’ll bet I can find something that can go in this one. 🤔🧐

Thanks for documenting your trail and error, I’m also taking apart a ‘62 deckel and I would have been stuck on the spindle assembly for days trying to figure out why it didn’t match the drawings.

Can I do this using my hand crank drill and some chip board and sandpaper? I have some tin cans lying around too. I might need to borrow your coppier.

Thanks for the video. I had to watch your video to help me figure out how to disassemble mine. The only weak point on these tool posts is the threads on the lever handle. Mine snapped off flush with the toolpost. Since I needed to use my lathe to repair it, and I couldn't use my lathe without my toolpost I was in a pickle. I ended up milling off two opposing sides flat so I could open and close it with a large adjustable wrench. Now that I got it apart, I'm taking measurements and going to make a copy of the part.

I used to run one of these Cini #2 grinders. I was trained on them at a cutter grinding shop I used to work at. They are a very smooth running machines and the spindle(if running properly) has very little vibration you can barely hear them. There is a lot you can do with these grinders. Hopefully it came with the 2 centers for holding an endmill, shell mills, reamers and more. You will also need a "finger" to roll the flutes on in order to follow the helix of the tool. Many other tool holding fixtures for sharpening can be bolted to the table using the "T" slot. Great machine. Once cleaned up, will probably last another 70 yrs. Great buy.

You done a great job on your build back about 20 years or more ago I was a tool maker used a spin fixture just like yours think it was a phase 3 anyway all I did was to buy a thrust bearing for both sides instead of one it was available off the shelf no machining but I did not think about flipping it my boss was already complaining that I took it apart and bought 10 dollars worth of upgrades to it I was wondering why you didn't put a bearing on the rear I remember it making a big difference been going to do a better job on mine now that I'm retired was going to machine both sides for a tapered roller bearing never got around to looking for the bearings but your way would be good but I prefer a bearing on each end nice job

A lot of machines incorporate a filter system maybe you could look for an aftermarket system because I assume you want to hang on to the lathe.

I had quite iften to recuperate bench grinders that had been abused and where the shaft axial inner washer stop is damaged. what I do is to remachine the axial stop and I fabricate a custon inner washer ( as you do ) but in my washer, I machine an integral grinding wheel center so I 'm sure that the wheel is ncentered to the shaft and the bearing lenght of the washer on the shaft incorporates the thickness of the wheel so the washer is much better guided in respect to the shaft axis and this ends the problem of the washer and wheel wobbeling.

I love it but unfortunately it's not rain proof. It soon corrodes and binds up. Even the primer gets wet and soon stops working.

You need to loosen the fit of the outer end spindle bearing on the spindle or you will not be able to set the pre load properly! It should be a tight sliding fit. If it binds up as you adjust the preload the main bearing behind the chuck will still be too loose. Phil UK
