Anyone else find it strange that sport shooting, hunting, and collecting are given more deference than self defense?

This might be a hot take, but Americans take self-defense so seriously because we worry about our government doing something harmful to our citizens. Like for example deleting 6 million members of the population for being the wrong religion.

I see reaction videos like this and kinda laugh. things people outside of America don't understand is..... 1. Our police response time is terrible. I have lived all over the country and the best response time is around 2 mins, the worst I have experienced was 45 mins or they just did not show. 2. We do have alot of wild animals, I have only had to draw my gun thrice, once on a bear, once on a mountain lion and once on ...... 3. Americans have a general distrust for our government. Hungarian here. We also can't get a gun for home defence, just for sport shooting and hunting, BUT it is legal to defend your life with a legally owned hunting or sport shooting firearm.

A shotgun is always a safe choice. It's wrong to laugh at Americans, there are a lot of unsafe areas and a lot of crime and the police are not always around. I myself live in one of the safest countries in the world, but I do have the necessary equipment to stop even the Taliban or the cartels if they ever stray to this side of the world. Bears are seen from time to time, but so far they have been harmless.

We have about 300 million guns here in the USA. Most of the gun crime you see and hear about is in LIMITED areas of the USA, mostly inner cities. For you Euros, the MAIN reason you do not have guns is not about "Safety" is about POLITICAL POWER. You are prefectly safe here in gun heavy areas as you could be in the safest place in Europe. Here in Czechia, I think it's not limited what you can have for self or home defense, you just need approval from police first before you buy a semi auto weapon, but that's just formality. But after 2023 school attack, we are probably on a way to more German law which solves nothing becuase criminals will just buy it on black market or use a car like in Germany.
