This turbo was much more responsive, with little to no power loss. Now I'm running another Kinugawa, a G30-660 hybrid. Don't have any videos of it yet, but it's just as responsive as this 18K. And makes more power.

I assume you're running a catless up-pipe? I may switch to tuning with Cobb, so I can access the 'AT shift timing retard' you told me about. However, I'm told that Cobb will give me a 'check engine' light and disable my cruise control due to my catless up-pipe. Any advice?
@madwagon9775
@madwagon9775 15 күн бұрын
I have a catless up-pipe and downpipe. But I had my car tuned before Cobb implemented their "Greenspeed" policy, which prevents tuners from tuning around emissions device removal with Cobb's software. However, the up-pipe cat isn't a very crucial part of the emissions system, and Subaru only used them for a couple of years. Removing it shouldn't cause any issues with a Cobb tune if you have downpipe cats.

@@pendaranroberts4350 It's still at the stock limiter, 6500. And no, it doesn't. The best you can do is play around with the requested torque tables, to trick the TCU into thinking it needs to shift later or sooner. As far as I know, the only people who've actually tuned the TCU directly have done it by replacing the stock one with a different one that can accept a custom tune. But idk how to do that, and the few people who've done it haven't posted how to do it online. At least not in English forums, lol.

So, I got the VF52 installed. Engine is running great. But the poor 5EAT is slipping I think. Doesn't like to shift in 1st and 2nd. I guess that's due to the additional torque and the transmission not having the pressure needed to engage the clutch (not an expert). It shifts fine if I take it easy. I've ordered the TransGo shift kit. I'm gonna ask for a transmission cooler too. Besides these things is there anything else I should tell them to do? I just hope there isn't something more seriously wrong. Burning through money! LOL

There could be one of a few issues here. A healthy stock 5EAT can handle a VF52 just fine, so while a shift kit and trans cooler may help the issue, I don't think that'll be a true fix. @@pendaranroberts4350 Hm, that sounds like a communication error between the ECU and the TCU. I've seen a similar issue before on a buddy's car. The problem was an issue with the requested torque tables in his ECU, which is something the TCU references to make its shift decisions, along with engine speed and calculated load. If the values in these tables aren't scaled properly or have missing information, then the TCU doesn't have the information it needs to shift the transmission correctly. Ask your tuner to review these parts of the ECU map before you install any trans mods.

@@pendaranroberts4350 There's a parameter in the ECU called "AT Shift Timing Retard", which retards ignition timing during shifts to cut some power to help prevent slipping. The factory values bring the overall timing to about 5 degrees BTDC at WOT. Mine is set to 22 degrees after TDC, so it's basically making no power during the shifts. Between that, the shift kit, and the additional fluid cooler, I've never had any issues with slipping. Even with almost 200k on my trans now. The weakest part of the 5EAT after beefing up the shifts is the center differential. It's sensitive to shock loading, like during a hard boosted launch. This a 5eat trans? Is the delay that much more over the 20g?

Yep, 5EAT with a few mods. The Green is noticeably less responsive than the TD06SL2-20G I had, but it's still easy to daily with. And it makes a lot more top end. I ease in to the throttle when I'm doing a pull, so it looks laggier than it is.

@@madwagon9775 that's good to know. I'm running a tdo6h 20g and 4eat with ratiotek shift kit. Was looking into getting a green but the stock stall is already kinda low. You using stock computer? I seemed to of maxed out the stock maf with the 20g at 25psi

@@juancarlosdelrio486 The Green uses the TD06H turbine as well, just with a 55x76mm comp instead of the 53x68mm 20G comp. You probably wouldn't notice as much of a response difference coming from another TD06H turbo as I did coming from a TD06SL2 turbo. I'm still using the stock ECU and MAF. I maxed out the MAF with my 20G and a 2.75" MAF housing, but moving up to a 3" gave it some more room. It's still working well with the Green so far, but I'll probably have to switch over to a MAP setup if I want any more.
