nice instrument! I recent acquired a Buescher Epoch cornet and was wondering if you had any idea of its value? It has the serial number 525, which dates it to early 1901, but interestingly is pre-patent, and as far as I can tell only about 100 instruments were made pre-patent at most.
@TheBigBrassGuy10 күн бұрын
The condition is pretty average, but the instrument is fully functional. There’s two dents on the back of the bell crook, one large dent in the 3rd valve tuning slide(the slide works), and the top inner pipe of the front main tuning slide needs to be re-soldered. There is also a very slight crease in the bell. The instrument has a coffin-style case with it that I believe is original, as well as the A shank. Sadly, the shorter Bb shank is missing. The 1st valve and 3rd valve are short, with the 1st being slightly longer. Interestingly, there’s actually two design flaws: the 3rd valve bottom cap is almost completely blocked by the 2nd valve tuning slide, and the 3rd valve tuning slide is blocked by the bell to the point that it can’t be removed without damaging the instrument. Sorry for the long comment! and if this shows up more than once!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGq2lZ-ujqxkl9Esi=eUUBfm8exMVpL2lM Did you happen to see my KZbin demonstration of my Buescher Epoch Cornet? This is the link to the KZbin video. It was made in 1905. I completely restored it. The Buescher Epoch Cornets are very rare. I believe the value of them is between $800 and $1200 depending on the condition that they are in and when they were made. If yours is pre-patent then it may be worth a good bit of money. That’s about all that I can tell you. Good luck and thank you for watching.

I should say thank you, because this clip is the main reason that make me bought the lituus some months ago. Can you please say what kind of mouthpiece you use? It seems more darker than a simple 7C. Thank you.
@brassfromthepast51499 күн бұрын
I hope that you are enjoying playing your new Lituus. I’m glad that I was able to help you decide your purchase. The mouthpiece I am using is actually from an alto horn. It is a little larger than a trumpet mouthpiece. It also has a deep cup. A large trumpet mouthpiece will work, but an alto horn mouthpiece gives a much darker and deeper tone. If you use a trumpet mouthpiece, I would recommend a 11/2C. Hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.
@echo-807 күн бұрын
@@brassfromthepast5149thank you very much! Really appreciated. So now i finally can choose the right mouthpiece for a powerful sound, an alto horn mouthpiece with small shank. I guess 5 is enough for deeper darker sound. Do you think so? Thank you.

@@brassfromthepast5149 Now something rather interesting that you may look at sometime is a contralto trumpet in low Eb or F (A full octave below the regular Eb trumpet). Bach made one in Eb and F a loooong time ago and there are also some german rotary ones out there. Alto flugelhorns are also cool! This is a really cool channel.

Nice playing Sir and an interesting instrument as well! How much money please should one offer for such an old instrument?
@brassfromthepast514913 күн бұрын
Thank you very much. It really depends on many different factors. It depends on how rare the instrument is and what condition it is in. If it is a very rare instrument, it doesn’t necessarily matter what condition it is, it may still go for a high price. If it is a very rare horn and it is restored, it is even more valuable. This particular horn is quite rare and is in very good condition so it should go for at least $800 to $1000 USD. You really have to be educated about rare instruments to be able to determine what they should be worth. Hopefully this answers your question. Thank you very much for watching.

Thank you for sharing an early nineteenth century instrument! I'm curious to know how you obtain these historic instruments. Most places owning keyed bugles have it for storage or museum purposes. A revival of these period instruments and the impact on early nineteenth century United States music is overdue!

I have been collecting and restoring brass instruments for over 18 years. I am constantly looking for rare and antique horns. It is not very often that I come across keyed bugles. Once in a great while I find some. They usually belong to other collectors that have had them for a long time. Normally they are in museums, but there are still some in private collections. It would be nice to see these horns more often. Unfortunately, they are not seen or heard very much. That’s one reason I like to demonstrate these horns and make them available for people to see on KZbin. Thanks so much for your interest and thank you for watching.

Nice Tone!! I have the SAME EXACT Regent cornet (mine is a 1938), in the same shape as yours!! As a comeback player after 55 years, I'm happy to hear what that cornet should sound like! (I'll get there). Meanwhile, can you please tell me what mouthiece you used to play that march? Also, this cornet seems to hold more water than say my Holton Collegiate trumpet, (circa 1965). So much so, that I had a water key added to the 3rd valve slide. (It did not affect the playing or tone in any way). It's better, but still seems to hold water. On more than one occasion, I have to empty it as follows....hold it valves to the left, blow thru 12&3 while holding the valves down, turn it so the valve caps face the floor & tilt the bell down so the water runs out. Outside of that, I love it! Any ideas? Thanks so much!!
