Pretentious conducting of KR from the harpsichord. Nobody needs his waving hand whenever one of his hands is free. God gave all musicians a sense of a steady rhythm.

One of my music teachers played this for the class back in high school...it has been playing in my head ever since, its hard to hum when the sheet music is just a picture of a tornado on top of a pipe organ

Must watch to the end, every time, and every time I am still struck with the same amount of awe and raw emotion. It’s as if the universe is unfolding before me to reveals its harmonic secrets my monkey brain can feel but cannot fully comprehend.

I remember seeing this version on Dutch television. In The Netherlands listening to Bach's Mattheaus Passion is an Easter tradition. We watched it from beginning to end on Good Friday. I remember that giant cross suspended from the ceiling in a Munich studio. This version is the very best.

Es muy alegremente desconcertante el hecho de que los violines, cuyo arco es fabricado con crines de caballo, como personaje sonoro en esta pieza suenan muy como un caballo galopante. ❤❤❤

The 1st version of this I heard was in Junior High School in the 1960s. I don't have ANY clue of the artist. Played at about an octave lower. Much more haunting. Much richer. Much more memorable. While this version is impressive in the virtuosity of the performance, the version I heard 1st is vastly more memorable nearly 60 years later. I can still hear it in my head. While this version I am forgetting the sound as I type this comment. For my taste, too busy. I cannot pick out a melody from all of those overlapping notes. I recognize and appreciate the mastery of a complex instrument to be able to execute this performance...But not the best musically to my taste.

Now, I'm well aware of the genius inherent in this music, and of how influential and ground-breaking it was. But, to be frank, as something to sit and listen to for enjoyment or edification, I really dislike this intensely. I find it pompous, ingratiating and depressing, it really offends my ear. When it comes down to it music, no matter how accomplished, is still a matter of heart and emotions, and my life will be improved if i never have to hear this again.
