Great result Alan. I particularly like the way it uniformly coated the brazed up part. I may use this to "colourise" the small brazed conrods on my built up model engines. Thanks for putting this up. Cheers Rob

Works really well doesn't it Alan, the only thing that scares me when I nickel plate is the nickel acetate....I'm really REALLY cautious with it and take every safety precaution that I can (and I'm not really that type of guy usually) pretty handy being able to plate small parts! - Cheers Jim

Just tried polishing the mild steel test piece with some metal polish and paper towels. Comes up nice but doesn't seem to wear the plating at all. Then I tried some fairly coarse steel wool, again, no apparent affect on the plating. So hopefully it be fairly hard wearing.

@ It wouldn’t have occurred to me that the handle had two positions, I was wondering what the threaded hole was for. I’ve taken off the handle this morning and rattled it - there is something in there. Due to arthritis I am unable to unscrew the cap, but I’ll find a rugby-playing gorilla to do it for me. It is quite a fascinating tool. I occasionally make guitars so I will find uses for it holding small parts against a sanding disk etc. Thanks again.

@@Barnagh1 As you probably gathered from the video I just love these things. I do a lot of restoration on small model steam engines. These vices are perfect for holding small brass parts that need to be cleaned up on a wire wheel. Also, as you say, holding small parts when using a disc sander. Sadly there isn't a good modern version of it. Although you can get a similar or though in my opinion, a much poorer designed version. I've got one of these and thoughts are coming around to fixing it up - on mine the flat belt runs directly on the motor axle which is domed over. I can see you have a mini pulley sheath over the end of your motor spindle. Do you know what's original? The problem I have is that the belt keeps working its way towards coming off (albeit that it never gets fully off!)
@RetroSteamTech
@RetroSteamTech 9 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what was standard, although most of the ones I've seen photos and video of use flat belts and pulleys like mine. I've also seen ones that use a V-belt and appropriate pulleys, of course these might simply have been modified. As long both drive and take up are crowned and the shafts are parallel then the belt should not come off.
