One thing is certain, pairing Echoes and Awakening together as a set enhances both games. Echoes for the past, and Awakening for the future, since both games contain the same continents.

I think the best way to fix FE6 is to remake FE7 first, then FE6 and make them compatible (and then in a marketing play, sell them as a combined game later, maybe call it Fire Emblem: Tales of Elibe or something) The "Lyndis paradox", as i'd like to call it, is quite frankly unavoidable at this point; so the way to go is to play it straight and work with it. My idea is this: Lyndis unsupported/Kent/Florina support: she returns to Sacae, and joins the Sacae resistance alongside Dayan. (or dead by early resistance against Bern. Her atk is useless against Zephiel without her Kattis anyway) Make her items obtainable though in either scenario. Maybe her Sol Katti as a better Wyrmslayer? Lyndis supported by Lords and Rath: pull the death by childbirth card, but as a result grant a unique class/item to offspring. Also do this to other potential partners of the three except Ninian, because Roy as a dancer/manakete would be weird-ish. As for the technical stuff: - Map size is fine as is -Promote replayability by making all units have a viable growth rate, somewhat relieving the too many units problem. (And solve problem 'i wish i can bench Roy' in the process) -Adapt fixes like Thief promotion and maybe FE8 levels of reclassing/promotion system. Also for our sakes, make Roy promote earlier, like maybe post-Western Isles so he won't be a liability come Sacae/Ilia split.

The change in sizes could also be Perspective and Pose. Flexing muscle, angle of view, etc. all impact these measurements. Plus, costumes can change proportions. Valentine and Bride Lyn could be wearing Corset, which works like a Push up Bra.

Trying to fit all of Fire Emblem's story together has never made sense and it never will. Also Grimas orgins from Echoes is a total retcon that just proves Echoes is well written while Awakening is trash.

This is a GREAT video Essay, well done my dude! I have actually been thinking about this video for a couple of days now and I think I've come up with a perspective that would make Eirika's version of Lyon a bit more interesting. Someone already mentioned the theory that Eirika was meant as a "1st playthough" and that, while doing Ephraim's path, you will lean how he had been faking all the time. However, as you've pointed out, the actual narrative doesn't seem to show that. However, I would propose this perspective (again assuming Eirika's route was supposed to be the first route). In Eirika's route we see the Demon King taking over. Lyon's struggling but failing, but part of him is still shining through. As you've pointed out in the video, it seems as if there is still a way that he can be saved. However, you will soon learn the hard way that this isn't possible. The Demon King has already won. If only we could prevent the Demon King from corrupting him! Now we walk Ephraim's route, where Lyon has actually managed to conquer the Demon and he is, arguably, even more dangerous than on Eirika's route! (Ephraim is the more dangerous foe, after all). What this shows is a what-if for Eirika's route. An answer to "What if the Demon King never conquered him?". It shows that the path that Lyon was walking was one of self destruction, with or without an outside force pushing him off the edge. While I still think that they could've handled Eirika's route a lot better regarding Lyon, I do think that looking at it like this adds a bit to the poetic tragedy that is Lyon. Dunno, these were just some shower thoughts I had. Thanks for inspiring these :)

certainly an interesting perspective! personally i think should FE8 get remade, it should be structured like echoes act 4 where you control both protagonists in parallel, then they adopt the writing from Ephraim's route for the whole thing.

3 Houses route structure could have easily been fixed if they just used an actual higher education school structure where teachers aren't limited to one class. In Japan I'm pretty sure the class stays in the classroom and only the teachers switch out for each subject. You could have time to teach any student, learn more about each house, and move the decision to right before Edelgard attacks the church. Thus you can start right there in subsequent play throughs and not get burned out. Honestly i had the same thoughts you did and questioned how they messed up in 3 houses. I only completed 1 route because i don't want to go back to the academy again. Even the decision placement was ridiculous because you get time to learn about characters and use them in Fates before you decision. 3 Houses gives a Shallow intro to each character and forces you to pick a house before even using them. It just is a worse structure all together.

I only got into FE a few year ago and playing through 7 I found Lyn to be pretty...average. Nothing really blew me away or anything, and even today I struggle to understand why she's so popular besides her attractive appearance. She almost feels like pre-Camilla, a character basically totally dedicated to being sex appeal, only with a much less egregious personality, but also one far more milquetoast.

I would also like to add that the prologue and first 2-3 chapters on the birthright and conquest routes actually have a compelling story/world/characters and kept me interested when I first played and even on replays. The prologue can be skipped but it still is interesting, compelling, short and sweet when u replay from the very beginning. The story doesn’t get bad until halfway into the games. Obviously not as great story as 3H but gameplay is better on replays.

i think its very funny that three houses is about unit customisation but fates still did that better three houses' class and skill system had potential but it leads to most every unit feeling homogenous whereas in fates all characters have their base and heart seal class, but you can get into other classes by investing in S or A+ supports, which you only get one of per character, making your decisions a lot more meaningful and you really have to plan it all out if you want to maximise unit potential by grabbing certain skills or jumping into certain classes

As a Fates fan, this makes me happy. Conquest is my favorite game in the FE series! I do enjoy the writing, I love the gameplay, characters (yes even Corrin), music, and everything else! There is nothing I hate about Conquest! Aside from being able to S Support siblings and child units but still! Yes it has flaws, but I love it anyway! I don’t really like Birthright because I prefer bonds to blood and love the Nohr siblings, but its music is amazing. I never understood the hate towards it besides "Oh look Camilla has boobs so thats the only reason people play" "you can S Support the siblings" (I'll admit thats a bad part but I already said that), "Oh its new so it sucks", "Corrin is bland how dare a character make mistakes" I understand the localization issues and the stupid "buy three different games" shit, but I rarely saw any of that as criticism. And Corrin isn't perfect but their flaws aren't adressed, only "Well I wouldn't do that, even though Corrin is naive, stressed, and forced to command an army with no experience of course they make bad decisions"

I think the grid based system could be skewed because of the different image sizes. Much like how pixels are. Not to mention that Lyn’s art hasn’t truly ruined Lyn’s personality, she hardly mentions avatars directly, in FEH, with her base she’s excited to meet someone new. Also in the same token Eliwood and Hector rarely mention Lyn either. Or each-other. I don’t think it’s within her character to talk super fondly of people to another person. Not to mention the increase in sizes are inconsistent, vary from artist to artist, and more often than not depict the now adult Blade Lord Lyn (hence her wielding a bow in almost every single alt). The poses are also more eccentric can with the breasts beofre forward in the pose, and 90% of the poses have her leaned, it could make them seem bigger than they should. Camilla’s a doting big sister of course she’s going to talk about her whole family. She basically adopted her retainers as sibling and somewhat blatantly soft adopts the FEH avatar… Also. Camilla’s always seen in a more refined and calm pose as she’s the violent doting big sis princess. That’s just my personal opinion honestly, but I could be wrong? I just think the fear is not there, and mentioning other character to someone else isn’t Lyn’s style or a good judge of a character’s direction. Especially with Hero’s limited dialog space more devoted to talking about what’s relevant banner outfit or otherwise.

For me I play fire emblem for its gameplay and not so much story. Though I appreciate a good story which three houses has plenty of. I'm sad I never got fates when it released because the DLC is no longer available (legit) so I can only experience either birthright or conquest. Now I love unit customization and I love investing in my characters to make them OP. I guess the newer fire emblem games are my demographic. I've played this game like 9 different times already and just recently beaten chrimson flower again. I guess me personally I have no issue since I find replayability with the units I choose to invest in rather then the map I play

Fates is also on the 3ds, so it was more or less designed with the idea that you play a mission for an hour or two and then you pick up later. Most hand held games are made with this philosophy. Reminds me of the developers of metroid fusion, who had to consider that a gba has batteries that need to be replaced and only last for so long. So the developers design the game in clearly defined sectors, the entrances which had the navigation room and a save station right away, as well as adding more save stations in general. In contrast, 3h is a console game, IS made it with the idea that players would dedicate longer play sessions to it. Lastly, fates from the ground up was designed to have dedicated routes. Three houses originally was going to have at the minimum silver snow. Turns out when you plan from the outset, things tend to be executed better. Shocking, I know.

This is why I have a hard time picking Best/Worst Fire Emblem games. One game will do something so insanely well but drop the ball in ways another FE game didn't. FE: Awakening has a crap narrative but by the gods, I LOVE it's gameplay system with its open overworld and smoothly working Level and Support grinding into the same experience, instead of making you choose which you want to do. Meanwhile, Fates has a better story, but I'm not as sold on the gameplay.

I'm really late to this, but from what I've read, there's a theory that Morgan is from Future Past instead of Lucina's future. The only relevance to it's canonicity is the fact that if Robin speaks to the Morgan that would be their child, Robin leaves Morgan an annotated tactician's book, which Morgan states to already have one of, given to them by Grima Robin of Future Past. On it's own this doesn't seem like much, but in Inigo's interaction for male Morgan and Cynthia's interaction for female Morgan, an accident occurs which spoils a book beloved to morgan, that being an annotated tactician's book. But Morgan mysteriously has an exact copy of the book, annotated the exact same way. I think this means that _technically_ Morgan is from future past, and lost their memories going back in time as a way of rebelling against Grima, but Grima tried to possess Morgan, but it backfired, and Morgan was thrust into the past with no memories, similar to how Robin lost their memories when Grima tried to possess Robin at the start of the game. I'm not the biggest Fire Emblem lorehead, and this doesn't work if Morgan is the child of a second generation unit which I'm pretty sure means that Morgan can only be from after the game's events, and also leaves the mystery of Lucina's Morgan open, especially if Morgan has a sibling. I'm late, but this is my two cents.

12:22 I think that there is a lot more investment and customization in fates that you are giving in credit for. With the right marriages and friendships, you can give vantage and life and death to sorcerers, sol and strong riposte to ninjas, and much more. But this is all tied to the support system, which requires 6 chapters for an S support. If you want to S support child characters after that, that’s another 6 chapters. The amount of chapters a unit gets matters. I feel reason why Fate’s route split works so much better is primarily due to how much shorter it is rather than due to differences in unit investment between the games. The fates support system would feel much worse with 4-5 more chapters that delay support building.

so I get the argument you're trying to make, and I think I feel like it was maybe my fault for not communicating my own argument as well as I could have. the issue with the optimization in 3H is that it's gameplay is designed around you having your units "complete" going into the timeskip - the academy arc is like buying, building, painting and assembling an army for a wargame like warhammer or something, then the post-skip is taking that army to a local tournament. fates is more like D&D the power curve and optimization comes incrementally and your build doesn't really fully form until the endgame - this is especially true of conquest. the issue is not the absence of optimization in fates, its that 3H front loads the optimization into a story structure that doesn't jive with a multi-path game and it can't have it both ways.

Come to think, i've never played much of the pre-Awakening games; I've tried a couple - like Path of Radiance on GameCube, and Lyn's game, The Blazing Blade - but they didn't 'click' with me like Awakening and Fates did back in their heydays. For one, the art style of Blazing Blade wasn't nearly as appealing as Awakening's and Fates' more detailed sprites, which is almost certainly due to the two-generation change but still very noticeable. For two, the Support system was very basic, and the series hadn't yet mastered reclassing like it did in Awakening and Fates. For three...I just don't like playing as female characters; I'd much rather play as men, since I find it much easier to relate and see myself in their shoes - and also, in a 'medieval' setting like fire Emblem where strength-based weapons (instead of guns) are the norm, it makes a lot more logical sense for militaries to field men instead of women. Sexual dimorphism is a thing, and men have greater physical strength than women (all else being equal, like training, diet, exercise, etc.), so having to play as female characters just feels _wrong_ in that light. Maybe magic is an equaliser, like guns turned out to be, but swords, lances, axes, bows, and the like? Realistically and historically, men have the definite advantage. In 'medieval' settings, women are far more useful at home instead of the battlefield, giving the men a home to go back to, and allowing the town's population to recover even if a lot of the men die (since only women can give birth).

5:11 and I see the same happening with Engage, maybe not the story scenes (well Many EARLY to some mid game story scenes) but the rest of the game some are trying to do the "they were bad too" treatment to get on the "We hate Engage for not being Three Houses/Genealogy of the Holy War train" will get second looks (hell they already were, not saying Engage is a masterpiece, just saying the hate to it feels more piled on and faked to "Seem cool to hate on the sequel that is not like the last game" then genuine! The genuine ones I do take to heart because they are made as a fair criticism that should be taken serious and noted by IS for what NOT to do or fix it up in the next Fire Emblem! But the rest are just "why don't I just put Three Houses back in and play that!" (Seriously they act like they were FORCED to sell Three Houses to get Engage with the ANGER they love displaying and much of it feels FAKE for the sake of "joining the Hate Echo Room discussions! and disguise themselves as akin to the GENUINE discussions to deflect criticism of their bad behavior as "Engage Fanboys coming at them for hating their game.....when THEY themselves were Three Houses Fanboys getting mad at Fates fanboys for hating THEIR game!")

The only thing I think Three Houses does better for the lore split is that you don't have to buy each path. Even then, the fact that half of the chapters are the same between all routes may have something to do with it. As much as having to buy all paths is annoying, I'd rather have to buy Fates different paths than the Three Houses paths
@PokeMaster22222
@PokeMaster22222 6 ай бұрын
Honestly, while the repetitive and boring Academy half is indeed Three Houses' biggest issue, the next-biggest issue is the calendar and activity points system - greatly reducing how much freedom the player has, for building support and grinding classes. I, for one, don't like being limited, so this was a major pain in the arse. I prefer being able to choose how much I want to grind, thank you very much Intelligent Systems, and the calendar makes no sense anyway (why is every story-progressing mission on the last day of the month, huh? That's unrealistic as hell). I've seen 3H compared to Persona, but...*snort* that's laughable. Persona allows the player to act freely on every day of the week, aside from those with story events, not just Sundays. The third-biggest issue is, well, the classes. For one, we're back to gender-locked classes after Fates effectively removed this bullshit, with only females getting access to the best magical class (Gremory), despite Linhardt being a great male mage (for example). For two, every character has access to every class (gender permitting - eurgh), which means it's possible to end up with a party full of wyvern riders or something. Why this is a thing, when Awakening and Fates both did classes a hell of a lot better (making characters distinct by limiting their class options - and for Fates, tying a reclass branch to their S-Support, allowing for increased replayability), is beyond me.
