Hello. Thanks for the video. If I am using your Kory Switches, where the output LEDS have a common ground with the integrated buttons. How could I make it work with a LED driver ? The LEDs in the overhead panel wired from the Korys to the LED driver with the ground pin of each korry also ... Would the one ground connection coming through the LED driver into the Arduino WORK for the input ( Button PIN ) connection direct to the same Arduino board ? Sorry but my electronic circuits knowledge is limited.

Hi. If you use 74HC595 as your LED driver I think you should be fine as the LEDs on the Korry use common GND. Best is if you could simulate this on bread board, ie. LED with resistor and common GND and Data Pin that goes to a pin on the driver.

@santiagoluib3 Ай бұрын
Hi @Cooper_013. Shipping cost is always a pain in the neck from where I am in the world and I wish I could do something about it :( So when people buy Kory buttons from me, they do it in bulk numbers, say 20, 30, 50, or the whole overhead panel. That $60 (to where you are) is a minimum, be it 1 Korry or a bunch up to 1kg which (i think) pretty much covers the entire overhead panel set of korrys. I hope that clarifies the confusion :) I do sell the parts for DIY assembly, not sorry not the blueprints/files.

at 46 seconds into the video, you show a circuit diagram for the Korry assembly. I can see that you've chosen a common anode configuration. You mention in your video that different LEDs have differing brightness requirements (controlled indirectly by individually chosen resistances). Is that the reason you chose common anode? The advantage here would be supply a common voltage of say +5V and then ground each LED that you wanted lit up. Normally, designers use common cathode as its more easy to control the individual voltages to each LED and therefore control the brightness (but keep resistors the same value for any colour). It would be nice to know what your design philosophy was at the time.
@santiagoluib3
@santiagoluib3 Ай бұрын
Hi! Good catch there. I was just having a discussion regarding the same topic at a home cockpit builders group in FB . The diagram in the video is not a 100% representative of the actual circuit. The LEDs there are flipped. And you are right they should be common cathode. I picked that clip randomly to fill the video but it was a very early stage version of the design and must not be used as the actual schematic. To those taking that schematic, just flip your resistors to be common cathode. Also, the representation of the LEDs there is just a placeholder for the PCB for me to mount the actual THT resistors of my choice. For LED intensities, I find 47-50ohms are the right resistance for the Yellows and Reds. For Clear and Greens, I use 220-250ohms. And that is because I find these LEDs to have varying intensities depending on color. I hope that helps and sorry for the confusion. :)

@@santiagoluib3 No apologies necessary at all - this whole thing is one big learning curve, some of us are at a slightly steeper end of the curve as opposed to someone such as yourself who has allready done the hard yards and is no on a far gentler slope 😄. Yes I did also notice that both your LEDs were reverse biased, but ignore that as I wanted to understand your design philosophy. Thanks for clarifying. Funnily enough though, in the case of PLC signalling, most inputs from the field are negative logic (or earth seeking). Negative logic provides for some level of failsafe design, though it comes at a slight cost of complexity in terms of understanding/implementation. For DIY cockpits, I'm all for positive logic.

Just a word of caution - I originally positioned the arm switch as shown (disarm = closed) but instead of wiring it into the gear or autobrake, passed it through to the right side “fire warning” / black button on the throttle (I was already using the left button for something). This caused two problems. 1) This button specifically is used to put the controller in hardware calibration mode if it is held down when connected to USB - so it means that with the spoilers disarmed the button was effectively held down anytime I turned on the PC which messed up my axis calibrations for the thrust levers (thought I’d broken them😅 until I found out what happened). 2) it meant that the mapping in FS2020 required disarm to be on-press and arm to be on-release. This made it impossible to deploy the spoilers in flight as the disarm was constantly pressed returning them to retracted position (made the flap handle in the fenix go crazy). Solution was to re-orient the switch so that disarm = switch open and don’t wire to the right side black button, only the left side! Great mod though, really recommend it!!

Top notch work as usual and thanks for your contributions to the sim world. I am in the process of designing and manufacturing my flaps, spoliers and landing gear levers. I'm making these parts primarily out if aluminium, brass (gears) and stainless steel. Unfortunately, due to some parts requiring lathe work, its not for your average garage workshop hobbyist. I too do not have a lathe, but am getting those specific parts made by an external workshop. I plan to build this design using my 3D printer, but the rotary parts where youve suggested at least 40-50% infill, i will get a workshop to make them from aluminum using a lathe. Not sure how they'd machine the oart with the square hole though 😢

Instead of a Lathe machine which is intended primarily for cylindrical objects, why not look for metal CNC machines? They can surely make one, but at a cost. You may also try JLCPCB to CNC this for you. Just out of curiosity, why would you need the assembly to be made of metal? You can leave the knob housing with PLA and instead have the knob handles in metal uisng lathe machine. Just my .2 cents 😊😊

@@santiagoluib3 @santiagoluib3 I've had a look at JLCPCB and it's quite good as a service, certainly cheaper than in Australia. The intentions are to use a metal lathe for cylindrical objects. I don't intend making all the parts out of metal, just the parts that need strength. The casing will be 3D printed from ABS (it's more rigid and has better machinability - basically drilling or tapping). The knob handles as well would be 3D printed, then I will rough sand, apply a metal body filler, wet fine sand and then dip in an enamel paint to give it that beautiful smooth look and feel. I'm doing this process for all the knobs for the spoilers, flaps and landing gear.
