From what I understand the left rear door wasn’t evacuated through because they threw out the buring backpack there. It might’ve also been because the doors weren’t armed.

Hi Dan and Alex! Love your podcast. Chicago O'Hare is been the 2nd busiest airport by aircraft movements for few years now. Do you think we will surpass Atlanta anytime soon?

Defunct airline Pan Am is returning to the skies for the first time in more than 30 years to help fliers "relive the golden days of travel," but securing a seat to witness its comeback comes with a hefty price tag. The airline revealed plans to flash back to its luxury flying style with a 12-day journey across the Atlantic next summer, stopping on the original transatlantic routes Pan Am took back in the day, beginning in New York City and heading to Bermuda, Lisbon, Portugal, Marseille, France, London, England and Foynes, Ireland. "As we are becoming more accustomed to travel being a commodity, usually a way to get from point A to point B at the most economical price, we offer a reminder of the Golden Age of travel." "A time when the travel itself was a glamorous experience, and when the journey was as important and special as the destination," reads the Criterion Travel website detailing the trip. The all-inclusive rate for individuals comes to $65,500 and includes airfare, accommodations, "most meals and beverages" and a swag bag, the site says. For couples, the rate is slightly reduced to $59,950. The trip - slated to take place from June 27 to July 9 next year - is also limited to 50 passengers, and those interested can reserve their space on the site. "Join us as we commemorate Pan Am's legendary service, quality, and caché in the 21st Century on an exclusive private air program aboard a luxurious modern aircraft, limited to just 50 participants," the page reads, in part. It further details that fliers will ride on a "privately chartered all business-class Boeing 757-200" and, along the way, they can enjoy expedited customs and immigration at different locations and "avoid the hassle of public air terminals and commercial flights," among other perks. Pan Am - short for Pan American World Airways - originally went defunct in 1991 after decades of establishing itself as a luxurious flying experience.

Why has my comment agreeing that a licence to sit in the exit seat is a good idea, and suggesting we should lobby for this, been deleted?

I had the opposite situation when we needed to evacuate the check in area of the airport. Lots of passengers tried to walk out to the assembly area and leave their bags in the check in line "so they didn't lose their place"! I managed to get hold of a couple of them and said "You are leaving your bags UNATTENDED in an airport that is potentially ON FIRE?" Seriously, the logic eludes me!

Enjoyed once again! thank you both. One question, regarding the laptop battery fire incident. Would not the captain or pilot have a voice of authority in such an incident? or did the captain leave all the instructions to the flight attendants? What is the usual procedure?

The US has zillions of airports. They need to focus customs only on the airports that have international flights. It would be impossible for them to control everyone arriving from abroad in all of their domestic airports at the end.

Gate agent here for a US airline we 100% do care about batteries and the FAA randomly inspects us often even as a smaller airport. We now must place the Valet tags on the bags we cannot even hand them to people so we can ask if they have any batteries.

Last week my brother and his wife were bumped from an overbooked Emerates flight from UK to Australia. They were put up in a 5 star hotel and flew 16 hours later. They also received 2 free return flights to Europe to use in 48 months. Excellent compensation.

Hi Dan... and Alex loved the podcast have been following from the first episode... and love this episode... anyways a few days ago I just got on a flight from Jakarta to KL on MH where as on every flight I take I would research on the aircraft that would operate... to my surprise the flight I was on was operated by a 737-800 that was involved in an incident 2 yrs ago... I was wondering if yall have been in an aircraft which operated back after an incident and what are your thoughts & feelings on them ?

On the topic of benefits within alliances on other airlines: I'm FlyingBlue Gold and when flying Delta I do get the benefit of choosing free extra legroom seats by choosing exit row seats (granted, no Comfort+). I'm curious as to what other benefits Star Alliance or Oneworld offer over Skyteam that extend to all their alliance airlines? (since that's often highlighted as a drawback of ST)

Delta Air Lines said Tuesday it has entered into a partnership with startup Riyadh Air with the goal of operating flights between the United States and Saudi Arabia. Riyadh Air, which plans to begin passenger flights next summer, is backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign-wealth fund and is part of the country's plan to diversify its oil-based economy and boost tourism. Atlanta-based Delta and Riyadh did not give a timetable for beginning flights or financial details around their partnership. Their CEOs said neither airline is taking an ownership stake in the other.

People who FEAR a crash want to be able to be identified by the seat they were booked into, I'm guessing. NOT A GOOD REASON, just a reason some tik tok "You Should Fear Flying" vid suggested.. Dan, Alex you might add this type of video to a list of topics for future podcast. There are way too many of them...

The new Emirates safety video felt like it was shot in one day. Something tells me they were preparing a trendy safety video but all was quickly shelved after seeing how universally panned the new Qantas video received, given the JL516 incident last January.

Sometimes airlines allow cockpit visits as a passenger if you request it after you land. How common is it that they let you visit the cockpit and does that depend on the airline, aircraft, the crew or region of the world.

There's a greater chance if you're a parent as it serves as a demonstration for your children. An even bigger chance if you're a higher tier member of their miles program and traveling on first or business class during a less than busy flight with friendly cabin crew.
