I had a friend tell me their EK flight on SIN-MEL was conveniently empty too, as recent as 2 weeks ago. A kangaroo route feeder seeing little economy pax in the summer is also very strange. I am personally not a fan of the U.S. blocking foreign carriers from using Russian airspace when flying to USA, it's up to the home carrier's governments alone to decide this. Especially in critically blocked locations like India and West Coast-ME. It's insane that even codeshare flights are subject to those fines.

In 2014 MH17 was shot down over Ukraine/Russian border flying at 33000ft. The restriction at the time was no lower than 32,000ft. I don’t mind the restrictions.

Latam actually dropped both One World and Star Alliance, which were the alliances of both Lan and Tam respectively before the merge.

I think he meant that they originally not part of a alliance, in regards to their gocus on direct flights (and not stopovers like BA)

I want to visit Europe soon from Tokyo but if a lot of flights are empty, why isn’t the price going down???? By the way, flight from Taipei to Amsterdam (that I saved up my money on) last August was pretty damn full…

Oh interesting! JL canceled my KIX-LAX business class flight and rebooked me a day later. Should they cover my hotel? I’m gonna try! Anyone with insight on Japanese laws around this?

Last I knew the airline I fly on has an embargo for non reving to Paris so that might be a factor. For me I typically try to avoid the UK because I have to pay more to leave the uk in taxes and fees 🤷‍♂️ it’s like $30 to leave Ireland or a little more in other European countries and it’s at least $200 to leave the uk 😂 I also think the Olympics is just an excuse to price gouge also making people decide not to even fly to Paris at all and take the train or some other shorter flight to save 🤷‍♂️
