Yes, I’ve noticed it gave me much more solid base when squatting conventional. Less weak links in my squat movement.

If I had to hazard a guess why people don't like to shadowbox it's internal work with no external reinforcements and feedback, in a sense it exposes yourself and you have to actively time your movements, breath, distance, etc. precisely to use what you've learned.
