When we talk about the coming of Jesus and the establishment of his kingdom. First Paul says this in, 1Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. We read this about the first resurrection in, Mat 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, Mat 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Paul says this is the first-fruits. In Revelation 7 and 14 they are 144,000 out of the tribes of Israel then we are told by Paul that there will be another resurrection at the coming of Jesus, John saw them in Revelation as a number out of all nation that no man could number. This hasn't taken place yet. another thing is that Jesus is going to come in a consuming fire and destroy this world when He comes. we read this in, Luk 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Luk 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luk 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; Luk 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Luk 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In 1Thessalonians the 4th chapter we find the rapture people usually stop reading there but the 5th chapter continues the narrative. we read this in chapter5, 1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Now in 2 Perer chapter 3, Peter indicates that when Jesus comes the unrepentant will all perish at his comiing. We must rightly divide the Word of God. The kingdom of Christ started on the day of Pentecost and ended 1,000 years later in Revelations the 20th chapter at the loosing of Satan as a spiritual kingdom. Jesus said to Pilate, :"My kingdom is not of this world," it is a Spiritual Kingdom in one place Jesus said that the kingdom of God does not come with observation but it is with in you.

Psalms 145:13 and Luke 1:33 says that His kingdom will never end. Does this mean there isn’t a final coming and judgement? Could this mean that all the church: past, present and future, are now living together in the kingdom with Christ WITH US? That perhaps we just cannot see the great cloud of witnesses or the redeemed that surround us in the spiritual realm? The New International Biblical Commentary says this about 1 Thes 4:17, "Greek for "meet" is apantesis, which seems to have been a kind of technical term for the official welcome of a newly arrived dignity. We are not told what will follow the meeting in the "aer" but the imagery expressed by apantesis points to the earth as their final destination." That ties in with what Jesus said as well in John 14:3.

I think it was David Curtis who did a sermon in Romans 13 and he suggested the God ordained authority had to do with the Jewish order and those appointed by God, the temple and that sort. It would be more in line with the thrust of Romans from the immediate chapters, in my opinion. The suggestion that gentile converts in particular had no respect for those those in authority whom God has appointed in the synagogues. Denying their own messiah. Its easy enough to follow a government when they are doing good I am not sure we should follow the likes of say a Stalin if we lived under him or even some of our own leaders who push all sorts of ungodly laws, from abortion to taking children from the parents if they won't agree to gender reassignment. And that is our self-righteousness from works, and the arrogance to live and act from the mental-emotional level. The second coming was at Pentecost in the spirit of God. From then on, his Ecclesia was formed from all believers who had accepted Jesus and followed him. A partnership does not grow together in a week, but it is a longer process 33-70 AD. And at the end came the wedding banquet around 70 AD. A New Heaven and a New Earth were established, the New Covenant in the spirit of Jesus.

I was given this book when disfellowshipped. I read the first 8 or so chapters. Have enjoyed John Piper over the years and have been blessed by his teaching. But once he moves to dual fulfillment to make a case for a yet future coming of our Lord with no compelling scriptural warrant and saying that he thinks it is a mistake to believe that all has been fulfilled I stopped reading. No matter which way you turn reading the New Testament it is going to ask you to decide whether Jesus and His Apostles were mistaken about a n imminent first century return of Christ. Should be a good series to move the needle for many searching to understand these things. As in all past shifts in biblical understanding - forensic justification- they took time to develop through challenge and counter challenge, tested and retested for clarity, comprehension and refinement.
