That was a different era of football. Look at the spoilt, overpaid tarts now.

Fergie got the guy on a one month loan, but treated him like a permanent signing, bringing him around the grounds, introducing him to backroom and facilities staff. These little details seperate the exceptional from the normal.

What always amazed me about Brian Clough's Forest were their timework, discipline and the system they played. If Brian didn't have a drink problem, that team could have gone places. They had some great talent in the side. Mark Crossley comes across as a decent person. I could listen to him all day.

Martin Fisher was right,I'm a Pompey fan and at Fratton Park Mark Crossley jumped up to catch the ball,a fellow Pompey fan behind me (in the Fratton End) shouted ,Crossley dropped it and Mc Loughlin scored. We went nuts. Clough 's FA Cup dream was over.

Mr Clough should have managed England. But they went for Ron Greenwoood.

Explain this, Cough won the premier league with lowly Derby Counrt and Nottingham Forest, and won the European Champions League back to back with Forest, an amazing achievement. Old Purple Nose Ferguson wins one Champions League title with the biggest, richest team in the world, and its straight down to Buckingham Palace to be knighted. Cloughie got some poxy OBE or something.

I met Mark once, after a match, he was a fantastic player for Forest and a really nice guy but, for some reason, Beasant was preferred at the time. I really hoped Mark would get back in and think it’s such a shame he fell out of favour. Still a Forest favourite.

I will be truthful, Back in the eighties I went to most games at Anfield and loved it, but I must say although I respect Clough, whenever Liverpool played Forrest at Anfield, they played so negatively, I found watching them play any team, they where very Boring, I always left Anfield early against Forest, it was a waste of money watching them. As my mother used to say...They put years on you!

...very good, although Steve Hodge is the most, well only,"hated" ex Villa player of my generation (i'm 48) ...met Brian once in 1995, @ the card shop they had in West Bridgford when was up there @ Uni, he was standing nexf to the till worse for wear & Nigels brother was on the till & there was me a divvy Brummie laf buyomg a 80 odd p birthday card, for i guess a course mate, the only other petson in the shop, felt bit uncomfortable with it all, the till was right @ the back of th e shop which didn't help eitjer,& they sensed that too but even then he had a massive aurora about him... Worked @ the McDs on CasteleMarina whilst @ Uni & Brian Laws came through Drive Thru was just like an ordinary punter in an an average car with his family... Always had a soft spot for Forest, hope they stay up... 👍👍👍

...had a close family friend in Lincoln, late 80s he was a non conrtac, very good, left back youth player @ Lincoln, it was a very loose set up there, 1 day Brian Clough phoned, hello son this is Brian Clough, i've heard you're a good player... ...shows the extent of scouting network they even knew he existed etc... ...heard Sheater tell a story about when he was @ Southampton Clough kicking him in the tunnel @ Wembley before a final...
